I Can't Believe It!

Last evening I phoned to a local store that is part of a nation wide chain.  I got  a message and what a shock. The message was that if I wanted the store to return my call there would be a $3.00 service charge!!!. What is going on here?

The message to me is that this store does not want my business of anybody else's business..

Now this is happening to a little old guy who grew up in the forties. Our phone cost $10.00 per year! What a change!

Has anybody else received a message that a return call would cost money?

  2. Never did and if I start getting them I will not bother with that business. They should be happy to get a phone call and return it. I've heard of so many businesses closing due to online shopping.

    1. I get lots of telemarketers and if the call doesn't give a number or identity I don't answer. If somebody really wants something they can leave a message.

    1. It would seem simple that to answer the call might pay some benefits. Yes, London Drugs!

  6. No! I guess they would have lost my business right then. Never heard of it. I'll bet they don't pay their employees very much, either. :-(

    1. You'd think that every effort would be made to answer calls.

    1. That's the old barn on my family's old farm yard. No one is living there but the barn and corral are still used.

  10. I've yet to experience this, and I doubt I'd patronize a store that did this.

    1. I hope you don't experience this. I find it hard to believe that others would try the same trick.

    1. Well, I had the choice to wait. I wonder how they would collect.

  13. Never heard of such a thing, sounds like a bit of a cheek to me, and it would make me want to go shopping elsewhere just for the principal.

    1. Yes, go somewhere else. The choice was stay on the line and hold or get them to return your call.

  14. They would lose my business immediately. That's completely unacceptable.

    1. They did give me a choice. I could stay on the line and hold. I'm tired of that too.

  15. That's a new one for me. Really NOT a good business move.

  16. Hi Red, I sure don't like the sound of it, but I'll bet it's what's on the way for us due to online shopping. For example, I'll bet you (or anyone) would have a tough time talking live to someone about an order at eBay or Amazon. Everything has to be done on online. It's the new business model. I'm with you though ... I'd avoid the $3 charge if at all possible by shopping elsewhere.

  17. Honestly, I haven't heard if any return call charge. C'mon that's supposed to be part of "free customer service". I won't make any business with them again if that's the case.

  18. Our retail stores are disappeating, malls are half empty, as are many buildings atound town. However, I have never heard of this occurring. On-line shopping is the future I fear.

  19. The cheek of some people!

It’s almost like those callers who give you a number to call back which costs you pounds/per minute to return. And then let you hang on for five minutes before the canned voice starts giving you a multitude of choices.

We can’t win unless we cut these crooks out of our lives.
