Don't You Hate it When...

....the computer and/or the Internet won't work?

Yesterday was one of those days. The day  was long and frustrating. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

The day started off with the computer taking a long time to load. Then I found out that Google Chrome would not load. So. what's the problem. Is it my goofy computer ? Is  it something wrong with Google chrome?  Is there a problem with my Internet provider?

I tried another browser, Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer would load but it was freezing up all the time. It took a long time to read blogs and comment. Smoke was coming out of my ears.

To complicate these matters a long scan was running. The scan did not complete.

Computer problems here are not common so when they occur I'm not ready for them and don't know what's going on.

So my question is: Why don't they put a message on my screen that tells me what the problem is and then I can cool my jets? I would be happy if they said chrome is under repair and will be back on in 8 hours. If my Internet provider put a message on the screen to say they were doing repairs and would be back in half an hour I could live with that. I suspicion there are other problems that slow the operation down and I don't even know what's going on. My computer seems to keep looking for updates!

Now I know that some people complain about poor Internet connections. I sympathize with them. I know I'm fortunate to have good service.

What about you? Do you have Internet problems? Do you recognize problems right away? What do you do about problems when they
 arise?

  3. I have very few problems but lots of loading issues and slow computer. Not sure if it is the connection or too much stuff loaded onto my computer, esp. start menu. I should really create folders and sort it all. Hope you service is working better for you soon.

  4. I agree. If it is a provider issue I wish they would let us know. As it is, when things bog down, it is frustrating. About the only thing I know to try is to restart the computer. I suspect sometimes it is just heavy Internet traffic.

  6. We rarely get anything worse than the local station going down, and fortunately a simple phone call will advise us of the problem. That is unless the phone goes at the same time. If it's a computer problem I panic.

  7. My troubles started last month when I upgraded to Windows 10. My computer screen kept on freezing up. Fortunately Microsoft made it easy to switch back to Windows 7... so I thought. Once I got back to 7 a lot of my programs would not run. Next step was a factory reset. Lucky for me I had made backup disk to do the reset. It took two tries before I could make the change. This meant the computer was right back to settings of when I first bought it. It took another two days to get caught up on all of the upgrades and fixes that Microsoft installs on all computers over the years. Luck for me I have two external hard drives that I had backed up my important files such as photos documents etc. Yes I backup my files twice on two drives. Just in case one fails. Otherwise I am having a good day.

  9. I replace my computer fairly often, like every three years so I can keep AppleCare active. And then I call someone because I've paid for them to help me. It's been pretty good so far! I hope you got your stuff fixed. You must have, because I see you have commented on my blogs and on others we both follow. :-)

  14. I have the wireless router and for hours I had it go off. First
I check first now the router. I take out plug and let it stand and then back on.

Then if it comes back on. I know I used my brain to approach it. Now if not. The other little town up the way twenty minutes is having the hydro doing something on the poles. So then my day is shot on computer. As they never tell you when they are finished. Some days at 7 at night they are finished. Then if all else is a bummer. I call my server and he goes through and I see him working on the problem and he rectifies it. Which is a pain at first as most cant speak English and I have a hard time understanding him when he is on the phone talking to me. Right now I have to set my date and time daily. It has a battery I did not know has to be replaced. So then you have to open the back of the brain I call it. Take a picture after you take it out. Then go to the source and if your lucky the guy will have your new one. If not then he orders one for you. Your right Computers are a real pain Red. Oh I love you out on ski's. I am jealous. My friends hubby came over yesterday and the joke is. Look what I brought you. The poles. RIGHT. I need the poles red to get my legs going. How bad is that.

  15. Hi Red, It seems like I have a lot of problems with the computer. Well, I use it a lot so I guess that opens me up to more issues. I recently had some issues with Chrome but finally got them settled. My first suggestion for what to do when problems show up: Restart the computer. Surprisingly, that will often fix a problem.

  17. First of all, liked your photo Red. I haven't had any major problems with computers though I may have just jinxed myself. Did notice when on holiday that even though they said there was wi-fi, it used to slow down to a virtual stop when everyone got on their computers.

  18. I shut everything down, including modem and turn it all back on again. I find that works every time. Something gets hung up somewhere in these "machines" and its a MACHINE after all, right - works for me. Now, the photo....you and I are doing the same thing, except I am on the other side of the country. ha,ha. Have a wonderful day.

  19. To be perfectly honest, I'm not paying for amazing Internet connection so I live with so so speed and it's been enough for me. I agree with Saucy. When stuff goes wrong, I turn everything off, sometimes unplug them and then start again.
