Yes, today is the first day of spring. It's not a day where things suddenly change from black to white...where winter suddenly disappears and we have this pleasant time called spring. No , it's just one more day of slow change in each day. Sometimes the changes are warm and pleasant and on the other end we have cold and unpleasant times coming.
The first day of spring does give me a lift. It does give me more energy.
On Dec 21 , we had 7 hours and 39 minutes of sunshine. Today we have 12 hours and ten minutes of sunshine. So we've gained 4 hours and 32 minutes of sunlight since Dec. 21 2015. It just feels better to look at these numbers.
Where ever you are I hope you enjoy spring weather for your area.
Now for those people on the other side of the equator you are not left out. You will also have changes to look forward to and make proper preparations for the time.

Yay Spring! I love seeing the differences around the world, Red. And I always look forward to your comments on my blogs. :-)
ReplyDeleteAnd right now I'm following that garden in Bellingham!
DeleteNot much spring here yet, grey skies and some rain.
ReplyDeleteIt's too early for the really nice warm weather. It will get here.
DeleteHappy spring to you, too, Red. We're celebrating it at our house by NOT shoveling the two inches of snow we woke up to this morning. Little point in clearing it since it'll be 60 by Thursday.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you. I don't shovel at this time of year. By noon it will have melted.
DeleteYou are a spewing font of wisdom! Change is good and best done slowly!
ReplyDeleteWell, I may be spewing , but whether it's wisdom or not , I'm not sure.
DeleteAmazing how quickly the weather can change in Canada! It's been very dry and cool lately but the weather forecast is saying that we should be getting quite a bit of snow later this week. I hope not!
ReplyDeleteYou're so right about our weather being changeable.
DeleteApparently the news is saying on Thursday we are going to have a snow storm. Today Monday the snow is to start. By Thursday we are to have at least 5 inches.
ReplyDeleteI know my diseased Mother in-laws Birthday April 4th. We had a huge snow storm. When will this all end. Yesterday on Hubby's Birthday. It was sunny but cold. We went for a lovely meal. The Pepper Mill. He had his fav seafood platter. We thought wow. Spring is here. Sidewalks snow melted. Then for this week Doom and gloom. Your pictures shows. Winter is not here yet. Even though we seen the robin yesterday. Bobbing around. We have no choice of weather any of us. Bear and Grin. Perfect blog today.
Your last statement is really what we have to live with. We don't control the weather so we might as well take it and enjoy what we get.
DeleteHere in Portland it's cold and drizzly, and doesn't yet look like spring.
ReplyDeleteCold and drizzly is weather I hate the most. I shiver when I read your comment.
DeleteYes, thank goodness, it's finally spring! Still chilly here but much brighter than it was even a few weeks ago, it seems. Thank goodness we don't deal with snow like the snow in your photos -- we'd be immobilized!
ReplyDeleteMy photos were from 2012, but we could get the same thing on any day.
DeleteIt is cool here, but the days are longer about equal night and day for us. Happy Spring! :)
ReplyDeleteIf we think about it, most of our springs are like this.
DeleteMy aunt used to say that the first day of a season showed what the weather would be like the rest of that season. Here it was sunny but cool yesterday.
ReplyDeleteWell, I guess you hope your aunt is right.
DeleteStill keeping cold here, had a dusting but it is gone.Seeing some nice sunrises
ReplyDeleteWell, the sunrises you see are a bonus.
Deletewow, 4 hours of daylight in 3 mos. time. pretty cool.
ReplyDeleteIt's what I like about living here!
DeleteWe had spring last week. now, this week, not so nice - colder and wetter. But that describes spring in the northwest.
ReplyDeleteHooray for more daylight!
ReplyDeleteHello friend! I am one of those weird people for whom spring is not my favorite (I am a winter and fll guy). But I suppose that it's kinda pretty and all :)
ReplyDeleteNice comparisons Red. This time last year we had approx 8 - 11 feet of snow - I kid you not. We did receive snow all day yesterday on the first day of Spring, however, only got approx 2 feet of fluffy stuff, witch will melt easily in the hot sun shining today. Your very last photo would be in comparison with our whole prior to March 21, 2016. We are now in a winter wonderland again. ha,ha
ReplyDeleteYes, it is spring on the calendar but I hope you see some of the real signs of spring soon. Even if it's only a dandelion!
ReplyDeleteIt's coming but in the short run we've got a blizzard forecasted for tomorrow...:(
ReplyDeleteYay! It must be spring for sure now. I hope so anyway. The temps have been going up and down in Chicago too. It's almost April. I remember not daring to plant any annuals in the garden until toward the end of May though.
