Yes, the Micro Manager and I recently celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary. I'm sure most people say , "They don't know where the time went." or "It seems just like yesterday we were married."
So we were married in Inuvik NWT. Get your map out and look for that one. It was a bright sunny day and warm enough for not having to wear a coat. The anniversary day here was terribly cold and windy and you had to wear your winter coat to keep warm
One humorous thing sticks in my mind. We went to the minister in Feb to get organized. We had to request that he marry us and outline plans we would have to have in place. At the same time were were getting the marriage license from him. He shuffled around in his office and couldn't find the book with licenses. He thought maybe he sold the last one in his book? He would get some more licenses from another pastor, but he would have to charge us $2.00 instead of one dollar because the last couple hadn't paid him!!!
So this is what it looked like at the start!
And this is how far it has gone!
So by now the honeymoon should be over!
My daughter wrote:
Through thick and thin:
Arctic adventure, chores,
and play, kids, grand kids,
in-laws , outlaws, you
made it all work. You gave us
something to aim for.

Congratulations on your special day...it's quite a milestone indeed. I hope it's filled with happiness, Best wishes from all of us on the left coast.
What a milestone! Huge congrats to you and your wife!
ReplyDeleteThanks.
DeleteWonderful story about getting the wedding license! Congratulations on reaching your milestone and best wishes for many happy years ahead.
ReplyDeleteWe ended up buying the license from somebody else as this guy never did get any new licenses.
DeleteOh... I don't think your honeymoon is over by a long shot. Your whole marriage has been a honeymoon. Congratulations on your 50th! That's fabulous! I've got 7 more years to catch up to you.
ReplyDeleteThanks. As you know sometimes it's a struggle to keep things together. I will admit that.
DeleteCongratulations for you both, you haven't changed a bit! I think our generation is a happy steady one, we are in our 46th year now and I know several other couples of the same year. Divorces were not so common in our days, I think not many modern couples will reach this.
ReplyDeleteThanks. It's also a different world today with stresses we never had.
DeleteCongratulations! I imagine the NWT was a pretty remote place back then. (It's still pretty remote even now, isn't it?) Love the photos!
ReplyDeleteYes, it was remote. You didn't go home very often. However , we were treated well.
DeleteVery nice to hear when people have this chance to enjoy each other. I always admire those who have survived. I would like to try it again, but seem to be looking for the same model I had before and they don't make them as well.Going to be warm today, heard my neigbors AC going.
ReplyDeleteAt times it's a challenge.
DeleteOh, the honeymoon is never over. Happy Anniversary. B
ReplyDeleteThanks. Some days it's really over!!!
DeleteAnd happy anniversary and best wishes from Bellingham on the west (or left) coast, too. Love seeing the "before and after" pictures. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks. If you notice, my son calls it the left coast.
DeleteYou both look very young for celebrating a 50---not kidding. Cannot believe he had to charge you an extra dollar, it should have come out of his pocket as it was his mistake!
ReplyDeletewell, we didn't get married that young... a little after the mid twenties. He didn't get any new licenses so we bought the license from someone else for a dollar.
DeleteHow wonderful! I love both photos of the two of you. Happy anniversary. I bet you have so many stories to tell. Wishing you both many more wonderful years together!
ReplyDeleteThankyou. Yes we do have stories.
DeleteHi Red, Congratulations! Sure like the photos! Well, sir, I thought 46 was a lot. Ha ha. You've got something on this old boy. Have a great week ahead!
ReplyDeleteThankyou. There were no professional photographers for our wedding photo so a friend did them. 46 seemed like a long way from 50!
DeleteCongratulations. We're fast approaching 54. I look at couples today and wonder why so many can't keep a marriage together. Yes times are different but times weren't always easy during these last 50 years or so. I think we approached marriage with divorce being an unthinkable outcome. When trouble came our first thought was not divorce but rather find a way to work it out.
ReplyDeletePeople today have different challenges and very little support from family or community. I remember the minister at my brother's wedding telling them to support the community and they would be supported.
DeleteMany many congratulations: may you have many happy and healthy years ahead together.
ReplyDeleteThankyou. It's one day at a time at this age.
DeleteCongratulations on 50 years of marriage! Many you have many more happy, healthy years to come.
ReplyDeleteThankyou. From here on it's one day at a time.
Deleteprecious. absolutely precious.
ReplyDeletelaughed at the extra dollar you had to pay to make up for the flunkies ahead of you. bet they didn't get to 50! :)
Thanks.
DeletePlease add my congratulations to you and your wife to the many you have most deservedly received. Best wishes for an equally happy future.
ReplyDeleteThank you. The future is one day at a time.
DeleteIt's good to meet the micro-manager, as I believe she is called. Congratulations! I love seeing the wedding picture.
ReplyDeleteI love these before and after photos. You guys haven't changed that much in your faces. Still young in the heart of love. Congratulations Red and MM on your 50th Anniversary, sailing on into 51st. I am thinking about that extra $1.00 you had to pay cause the other fella didn't. That was a lotta money way back then. Congratulations and have a wonderful celebration.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Red!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Redand your wife. My goodness. Your wife has same veil as I did and the flowers. Only I had the hoop under the almost same dress as hers. Well we are just about your time of marriage. Perhaps 3 years ahead.
ReplyDeleteWe were so young back then.Right? We looked like kids. Now we are older but wiser. I do think. Enjoyed your writings from your daughter and son. Continued health and of course Happiness my friend and you lovely, lovely wife. Sure a Milestone for you both. Did you have family and friends surprise you or just a quiet time with the family? We thought we were going to go out for supper with our family. Then as we opened up the door at her place my daughters. SURPRISE!I nearly had a Heart-attack. Red I think marriages is Love and Marriage go together like a horse and carriage. Disagreements were never a big factor. And marriage has that we know. we talked things out. The young ones today.Young ones to day in marriage. They pack bags and away they go. Sad. You look the same and your wife is a pretty lady still. Thanks for sharing. You two young in hearts and kind to others. Huggins. Now Yes. I said it.
Congratulations to you both on what is quite a reason to celebrate. Many more years of happiness and adventures are wishes for you and the Micro Manager, Red.
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary!! I wish you many more happy years together! :)
ReplyDeleteInuvik, 56 days of continuous light and 30 days of total darkness...that is pretty far North! On the page I searched it showed an indoor Community Greenhouse in an old Hockey rink! :)
