ICE CARVINGS
One of our major garden centers has a many ice carvings for the Christmas Season. this year's theme was star Wars! Not very Christmasy, but they didn't ask me for any advice. Businesses Put up ice sculptures to go along with the theme.
Now we went to the Mormon church display of 300 creches. These creches come from members of the church. My camera batteries went dead after 2 photos so I was very popular. I did manage one photo with the micro Manager looking at some interesting displays
Now for the Star Wars stuff. Most sculptures have the name of the character.
You can tell which is my favorite. I can tell that I should have taken photos showing more detail. I'll know better next time.
Thank you for sharing this outing with us. I really love ice sculpture. I've seen very few because it was always too long a drive to go and see a display. These are wonderful. Thank you for showing us. I'll look forward to your ice sculpture next year, too.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I think it would be a bit of a challenge to do ice sculpture in Hawaii not that there wouldn't be excellent carvers.
DeleteMy niece would have really enjoyed the Star Wars ice sculptures. I'm taking her to the newest Star Wars movie soon. Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas to you. Enjoy the movie.
DeleteBut who is "The Advocate"? The ice sculpture or the male model in the blue jeans?
ReplyDeleteThe Advocate is the name of our local newspaper and they sponsored one of the sculptures so they get their name on it.
DeleteI'm with you! What a strange theme!!!
ReplyDeleteWell, they didn't ask me!
DeleteLove the ice sculptures, especially Yoda. They are fun! Thanks for sharing them, Red. Merry Christmas! :-)
ReplyDeleteYoda was a very lovable character.
DeleteIce carving is a real art, I saw last atumn some works here and it is very artistique I think. A pity it will not last for ever.
ReplyDeleteApparently it's easy to work with.
DeleteWow! Beautiful work on those ice carvings! I love watching the carvers at work.
ReplyDeleteIce carvers are very fast so fun to watch.
DeleteYoda was the best, lots of fun up there. You found some treasures, my favorite nativity was a live one they do each year.
ReplyDeleteThere was a live nativity outside the church with live animals.
DeleteI like Yoda best, too, but they could have added some Christmas lights or greenery. Maybe next year! Good that you followed up with the crèche exhibit. That's definitely Christmasy!
ReplyDeleteYoda was a very lovable character.
DeleteI think anyone interested in Star Wars would have enjoyed themselves immensely! I'm so far out of the SW loop I wouldn't have a clue :)
ReplyDeleteI'm out of the Star Wars loop too but this was interesting to see.
DeleteSuch artistry. If I created something as beautiful as these sculptures I'd want them to hang around a bit longer. Merry Christmas.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas to you. It's a very easy medium to work with. they do take photos.
DeleteThose are amazing sculptures! I'm not surprised that you like Yoda the best one. Definitely my favourite. Lots of fun things to do during the holidays. So many interesting events.
ReplyDeleteYoda was very lovable.
DeleteThese people are way too creative
ReplyDeleteHi Red, Enjoyed all the pictures! According to Environment Canada, at 2PM, Saturday, it's -13C in Red Deer. No worries about the ice melting. :-) But how long will they last or be on display? I agree, Yoda is the best! Neat post!
ReplyDeleteOh I like the ice carvings! Very cool! :)
