I've taken a longer time between posts than I usually do. There are probably some who will say ,"I never missed you!". I won't give them such a chance. I had topics to post on. I had lots of time.
But one excuse laid me low and I haven't suffered such and excuse for 20 or more years. I picked up a miserable head cold. Ordinarily I don't get head colds and ordinarily I don't pick up bugs that are circulating. So I can describe all the miserableness of a head cold. I had no energy. I stayed in bed most of the day and went to bed before 8 PM. I had aches and pains in every part of my body. Nothing tasted any good. I didn't have an appetite. This is a time when there's lots of good Christmas food around. I didn't have my afternoon coffee for 5 days. Coffee didn't appeal to me. Now I could go into the finer details of certain undesirable secretions but you don't need those details.
Now I've been retired for 19 years and have not had a head cold like this one. I've had colds but I was able to carry on.
So I was not able to force myself to write a post. It's probably just as well as I'm sure it would have been a pathetic post.
So even if I feel miserable now, I know I'm very fortunate not to suffer head colds or any other issues that causes one to feel miserable. My thoughts are with those who have issues that attack and challenge them on a daily basis.
So here's to a wonderful 2017.
That sounds more like respiratory influenza (i.e., the 'flu in "flu shot") than a head cold to me, Red! But look at it this way, you've gotten it over with early in the winter. You're good for the rest of the season now. I hope you're feeling spry again soon. All the best in 2017!
ReplyDeleteI've had my flu shot and this stuff is only in my head!
DeleteWhat a bummer to be sick over the holidays. Hope you're getting better.
ReplyDeleteI made it through the hioidays before it really hit me!.
DeleteThat sounds more than a head cold Red. I do hope you are soon feeling fit and well and back to your usual self.
ReplyDeleteHead cold with some fever. I'll survive.
DeleteYou must be feeling better to be writing this, and I sure hope so. You were missed! Head colds are awful. You're pretty sick when you can't even drink your usual cup of coffee. Take care!
ReplyDeleteYou feel okay and think your getting better and then pow it hits you again.
DeleteThat is sad to hear you were ill, such a cold can be nasty and obstinately when getting older. I had one a few months ago and it lasted longer than I had expected.
ReplyDeleteI will survive. It's a pain when you have it but it does go away.
DeleteYou poor dear! I know how you feel. This sounds like more than a cold, though. Our kids have been fighting a bug. I got it. The kids all threw up, but one, on Christmas Eve. The other has had a headache for two days.
ReplyDeleteYou take good care!
Funnily enough, the guy with cancer has a slight cough!
Only a head cold. I will recover rapidly!!!
DeleteGlad you are feeling better, Red. Head colds like that one take the joy right out of living. Fortunately we get over them eventually. Doing anything fun for the New Year celebrations? :-)
ReplyDeleteYou're right that they take the joy out of living.
DeleteSome of the worst colds I had were when I started working with children.Hope you recovered well. Happy new year
ReplyDeleteOh yes, the third week in Sept I always had some kind of bug.
DeleteUsually when I get a cold, the worst of it's done in 24 hours or so. Sometimes it lingers on and on though.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry you were sick over Christmas. You were missed! I know I'm really sick if I don't want coffee in the mornings! It sounds like you had more than a head cold. Here's to good health and happiness in the new year!
ReplyDeleteI didn't really feel rough until after Christmas.
DeleteHi Red, am sorry to hear you were feeling so poorly over Christmas but glad to hear you are on the mend. Wishing you a healthy, prosperous & peaceful 2017.
ReplyDeleteThanks. All the best to you in 2017! You've had some rather rotten weather this winter. My son keeps me informed. He lives in Maple ridge.
DeleteYes it has been rotten. I went out yesterday and found myself barely able to navigate the icy sidewalks and parking lots. I stayed home today. Now I read that the polar vortex and La Nina effects are making their way to England.
DeleteLast time I saw the doctor she asked for the date of my last cold, and I had no idea. I'm also very thankful those come by very seldom.
ReplyDeleteKeep doing whatever you're doing and stay healthy.
DeleteIt's too bad you couldn't enjoy some of the fun of Christmas, especially all those delicious treats that come around once a year. Get well, Red, and Happy New Year to you and yours!
ReplyDeleteI did enjoy my Christmas. After Christmas things hit me.
DeleteThese colds are certainly not fun. I hope you're feeling better. And here's to a wonderful 2017 for all of us!
ReplyDeleteso sorry about the misery. I'm glad you are back and recovered.
ReplyDeleteI have never been really sick since I retired from teaching over 11 years ago. Lack of daily contact with little kids and diminished stress are good for ones health.
I usually get sick this time of year too. I hope you feel better and better each day. No fun to be sick.:(
ReplyDeletei felt sorry for your trouble .hope you feel better now.
ReplyDeleteyou missed your coffee as it did not appeal you and went to bed at 8 pm that shows the seriousness of your cold and i pray for your well being from the bottom of my heart .
i hardly get cold but when i get it goes for months and everybody around me feel sorry for my sickness and my horrible sneezing ,no medicine works until it come to end inevitably .when i get out of this thick dark forest of illness i feel that i am seeing the sunshine after long as i reborn after long .
take good care ,get well soon .
Welcome back. I have been blogging with regularity but my posts no longer show up on the feeds of those who follow me, so, to some/many I appear gone. I am working to figure it out...but no success. I wonder if a head cold might help. LIke you I have been very healthy for a number of years and keeping my fingers crossed!
ReplyDeleteHi Red, If it makes you feel any better, I had a cold too. It started around the first of December and lasted for about two weeks. I don't think it was quite as severe as yours, however. One thing is for sure ... They are a pain! Well, I've sure enjoyed Hiawatha House in 2016 and look forward to more in 2017. Happy New Year to you and the Micromanager! PS I did notice you weren't posting for a few days but figured you had a good reason why. Turns out you did! :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for deciding not to describe the bodily secretions as such a description would have been stomach churning. You sound a lot better now. Good job you had Nurse Micro Manager to look after you.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you're on the mend. My doc said that "3 weeks is the new 3 days" with head colds at the moment. Mind you, you're some distance away from me here in London, England, but these bugs do travel. Hope you're fighting fit very soon!
