I keep a list taped to the desk of possible topics for blog posts. I found that if I didn't write them down I would forget all my great ideas.
Well, my list doesn't have any topics on it at this time. I've been too busy lately to think of things and write them down. I have a series of posts I will do after Christmas.
Christmas is a busy time and activities crowd out times to contemplate blog posts. So in the next few days: Friday I volunteer from 1 -5 looking after the Nature center book store stall in the mall. It's fun to meet people and sell a few books. People like to drop by and talk about things they see outdoors.
Saturday I have a coffee and cake do with the birders I lead every Saturday afternoon. We enjoy our Saturday outings and everybody looks forward to sitting down and remembering the fun we had. Saturday evening I see a performance of the Christmas Carol put on by one of the local high schools.
Sunday is the Christmas bird count. I'm out from 9:30 to 11:30 and then come home for lunch. In the afternoon I'm out from 1:30 -3:30 . I have two areas that I cover and have covered the same areas for about 40 years.
Sunday evening we have a potluck supper with all the bird counters. It's a fun time to share bird count activities.
We've also had a lot of running around to do at this busy time. One example is that the sieve the Micro manager uses in baking came apart so since there was still more baking to do we had to find a sieve. So you know that finding a sieve with the micro manager will be a marathon. She wanted a sieve like the old one. Well boo hoo! They don't make them like that anymore.
Today we did find a sieve so there will be more baking.
So being busy is part of the season and makes for an enjoyable time. But I will enjoy peace and quiet once Dec. 25 arrives.
Christmas bird count territory.
I hope it warms up to do your bird counts:) Bitter cold here :(
ReplyDeleteIt's supposed to be a high of minus 12 C. With the right clothes it's very doable.
DeleteWe are busy with holiday prep and activities too. It's hard to find time for blogging.
ReplyDeleteSometimes it's good to be busy and get out of a rut.
DeleteReally nice shoots!Sadly I can not read the post.Iam down with the flu of the year.Wish you a great weekend and happy days !
ReplyDeleteI hope you recover quickly.
DeleteIt sounds like you have your Christmas activities all lined up. It's nice at this time of year to branch out and meet up with others. It's also nice to have a breather when it is over. I'm glad the Micromanager was able to find a sieve. Christmas wouldn't be the same without those yummy baked goodies. All the best of the Christmas season to you both!
ReplyDeleteThankyou! I think being busy with activities helps to make a good Christmas. Have a happy Christmas.
DeletePensioners are as busy as ever, that is always good to hear.
ReplyDeleteI always tell people who are retiring that they should expect to be busy. I enjoy being busy.
DeleteI will do my county bird count in cemeteries and along a bike trail this weekend, staying mostly urban. Have two others to work this area, while about three other groups work parks. It's real cold and looking for snow to slow us a bit.
ReplyDeleteI'll bet cemeteries are a good place for the bird count. I do two large wooded ravines in the city.
DeleteI hope you see some good birds! Volunteering for the nature center bookstore sounds pretty interesting. I bet you hear some unusual stories about local wildlife!
ReplyDeleteI expect to see 8 species. There are about 50 species that overwinter here. The bookstore is a hoot. Some of the People buying things are funny
DeleteLooking at your bird count territory, I think the counting must be quite easy...
ReplyDeleteHawks 0, Parrots 0, Ostriches 0 and even the ubiquitous common loon 0. Plenty of time to read a newspaper or drink beer in Fionn MacCool’s Irish Pub. The Micro Manager will never know.
... and don't forget all those pink Flamingoes! this year I'll post my bird sightings. Now go out for a walk and count birds!!!
DeleteI have a friend who participates in the bird count. I am poor in IDing birds so have never participated.
ReplyDeleteGo with somebody on a count. some years I have people go with me. My kids used to come with me.
DeleteWonderful sense of the Christmas festivities and hectic feeling in your post. Even when you don't have anything on the list, you come up with some good stuff. :-)
ReplyDeleteYou just reminded me to write down an idea that might work. It's good to go out and work or socialize with others.
DeleteThis retirement isn't for chumps, is it? Sadly, with my mental health issues, I cannot handle groups much these days. I get so frustrated.
ReplyDeleteGood for you for keeping busy.
I'm content wandering out in the forest.
I don't keep handwritten lists, but I will enter the header topic of posts as I think of them. I save them, and they remind me to do some more research until I am ready to post them. I dabble with them over a week or two. Cheers from away!
Now you have a good idea about saving things. That's one thing I notice about many of your posts is that you do your homework. Now I can stay out in the bush by myself and be very peaceful.
DeleteHi Red, Great post! Are those photos at the end recently taken? Your idea of having a list of blog topics is good … I should start doing that. Lately, I have been thinking about blog posts while on my daily walk. Unlike a lot of other walkers, I don’t wear earphones to listen to something. So, it’s a good time to think without too much distraction. However, since I’m not writing anything down, I tend to forget some of those ideas. Ha ha. Back before we got all this “smartphone” stuff they used to have little voice recorders folks would use to record reminders. Maybe I should look for one of those. Anyway, thanks for sharing and hope you have a great holiday season in case we don’t hear from you again for a while.
ReplyDeleteThe photos were taken on last years bird count. I don't listen to anything as i like to hear what's around me. Have a great Christmas on the west coast. My son had a lot of snow at Vancouver , Canada.
DeleteThanks for the Christmas greetings and same back to you! I did not know your son was in Vancouver ... I love that city ... such a beautiful place. We've had a small amount of snow here in Seattle, but not much so far. We have about -2C here this morning so it is cold enough and they say we might get more in the coming days. Have a great weekend!
DeleteIt's admirable how active you are in your community.
ReplyDeleteThank you. You remind me that I have an art exhibition to go to. There is a showing of Group of seven paintings.
DeleteYou always have fun and interesting posts. You are perfect for the job of looking after the book store in the mall. I'll bet everybody who stops enjoys talking with you.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I'm a little loosey goosey in the book store. I give spontaneous good deals!
DeleteI would say this is a blog post from a happy man.
ReplyDeleteYou bet! I'm an optimist and I don't go in for judging people.
DeleteHa,ha - I can just picture MM searching for a sieve just like the olde one. Glad she found one. Your calendar sounds as busy as mine. Isn't it fun to do all these things that give you such pleasure and even more fun to relax on Christmas Day, and spend time with loved ones and EAT TURKEY AND HOME MADE PIE :) I love your posts Red.
ReplyDeleteWe will have the turkey and all the trimmings. I can hardly wait.
DeleteYou are keeping exceedingly busy!
ReplyDeleteNot exceeding ly but busy nevertheless. I know some people who are very busy.
DeleteI like to have a few extra things to do at this time of the year, otherwise I feel like I haven't had a "real" Christmas. Your list sounds about right.
ReplyDeleteParticipation is crucial.
DeleteI list your blog list idea. Nothing is working as blogging inspiration for me lately so I will try keeping a list. I admire your busyness! Hope you enjoy all your activities!!
ReplyDeleteKeeping a list is not normal for me. I hope you get a renewal as I enjoy following your blog.
DeleteIt does indeed sound like a busy time. It is terrific that you are so involved in your community. There are so many great things to participate in when one is interested.
ReplyDeleteThe busiest time of year- and sounds like you have a list of fun things to do. I'm sure shopping with Mrs. MM was fun, too! Have a great day and a wonderful week of Christmas activities!
ReplyDeleteI'm envying your Christmas bird count with potluck. I have done it many, many times (always followed by good company and a delicious dinner) not this year. There is no group in my new town.
ReplyDeleteI hope you do enjoy all these activities on your calendar and for goodness sake, if anymore cooki baking equipment breaks down, head out with a smile to the store posthaste! Christmas cookies are always worth the pain.
I have to write my blog ides down as well because I inevitably forget :)
ReplyDeleteHave a Merry Christmas :)
You're a busy guy doing lots of interesting things!! And I want to take this moment to wish you and the Mrs. a very Merry Christmas and a happy 2017. I always appreciate your thoughtful comments on my blog, and I love catching up reading yours! xoxo
ReplyDeleteI've got family coming so it's really hectic over here. I'm wondering what the sieve is for baking. A colander? A sifter? I made my first fruitcake! I'll have to write a post about it. Or maybe I'll just write it on my list too since I'm up to my ears.
