On this day of all days of sports I have to tell you that I don't follow sports. Now I'm not going to rain on your party and tell you sports have no value. I completely understand why people like sports. We need something to hold our interest.
It's just that I have lost all interest in sports. Maybe it's because I don't watch TV? I detest commercials. Commercials really spoil a game. A good old Canadian boy should really like hockey. I haven't watched hockey for years and was turned off by a certain buffoon of a commentator, Don Cherry. I used to watch the standings for my beloved Edmonton Oilers. Not anymore.
I liked , followed and attended Canadian football games. My heart bled for the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Sorry. I lost interest in Canadian football.
I never did get interested in soccer, tennis or baseball.
I did play, baseball and football. Other things I tried to play were volleyball, basketball and badminton. I skate and cycle. I ran until I was 71. I Gave spots a good run.
So on this day of all days in sports I did not get a ton of nibblies and all kinds of other refreshments. In fact, I forgot about the game until I looked at Twitter and found the underdogs ahead by 21 to 3! I've done what I usually do on Sunday afternoons... a few chores, (somebody has to shovel snow), did some reading, had a nap, coffee with the micro manager which can go on for some time. I had lots to do.
So for those who love sports, keep at it. I know it's enjoyable but not for me!
How about you? Are you a sport's fan?
Only Hockey when my Grand plays. We don't watch any sports other than Hockey:)
ReplyDeleteYou always have to watch your own kids and the grand kids.
DeleteI'm enjoying the game, myself! But the ads are fun!
ReplyDeleteWell, I realize that people enjoy sports. I'm not knocking it.
DeleteTeam sports, including hockey, leave me indifferent, but there are some individual sports I like to watch (gymnastics and ski jumping, and also ballroom dancing which takes a lot of skill and stamina but I don't think it's technically a sport). I'm uncoordinated and low energy so school sports were not fun, except for table tennis. Is that a sport? hah ... The only activity I get now besides housework is walking. I'm not proud of that. But it is what it is. I feel lucky I can do that much right now.
ReplyDeleteTable tennis is a sport. I used to pretty good at ping pong.
DeleteThe only sport I watch is bull riding! Oh and Kurt Browning because I know his family!
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting Hiawatha House. I like barrel racing. Kurt Browning was a good guy. I read his father's book.
DeleteTotally uninterested in any kind of sports.
ReplyDeleteThere's an attitude that doesn't attract me.
DeleteI watched some of the superbowl. I thought the Falcons had it and....and...they screwed it up
ReplyDeleteI think most young people like sports and are very interested in it.
Deletei agree totally that adds spoil the sports and dramas as well.
ReplyDeleteyou were active until 71 is quite a satisfaction because physical activity makes us think better .
my father was huge fan of hockey and sometimes when me and mom were watching same time cricket matches on T.v dad was irritated because he hated cricket .
soon he brought a small black and white T.v for his room to watch hockey match specially.
A hockey fan in Pakistan? That's something. That sounds like it would make a good post.
DeleteYes. I am a Hull City fan and have been since the age of nine. I don't see every game though there have been times when I have attended every match in a season. As a staunch atheist I find I need something to fill the void that the absence of religious belief creates. Up The Tigers! is like Praise The Lord!
ReplyDeleteYou are a serious atheist so that's why you need sports...to lighten things up in your world!!!
DeleteI am not a sporty type, have never done a sport myself, besides cycling and walking. I never liked the gymnastic lessons at school. I don't watch sportprograms on tv either. It has not my interest.
ReplyDeletethere are many more very worthwhile things than sports.
DeleteI don't watch sports either. They hold very little interest for me, but once long ago I watched hockey and was a Red Wings fan when I lived in Michigan. I had the game on yesterday but didn't watch it and was very disappointed when my favored team lost. Sigh. That's why I don't like these competitive sports, somebody always has to lose :-(
ReplyDeleteWatching your team lose can be depressing.
DeleteNope. I used to be a big football fan in my 20's but outgrew interest as they got rich like most corporations and by then was too busy to learn about the college football rankings. Hubby was glued to the screen all evening even though he did not have dog in the fight.
ReplyDeleteThere's a lot of razzle dazzle that distracts from what's going on.
DeleteI like to watch them live occasionally, but have no favorite team
ReplyDeleteI find live frustrating as it's hard to follow with all the side issues. People selling food, tickets, ...
DeleteHere in Norway its all about skiing but now with all the doping people it is disgusting what they do...So no I dont belive and dont like any form for sports since we are living in a sportworld that is fake I think..whos next out?Yeah!(Well I did like Sonia Henning on skates and this was my form for sports including skiing as young)Ionly like good old movies with no commercials..and of course the news I look at different kind of news channels to get a true view
ReplyDeleteOk..nice post you had here and nice photo of the biker..Is it you?
Wish you a great week coming in
Greetings Anita
I like individual participation for myself. I still skate and ski.
DeleteAt least you were ONCE interested in sports. I have to say, they've never been my thing. I never played 'em and never watched 'em. My dad used to love football but the mere sound of all those fans and whistles just curdles my blood. I didn't even realize yesterday was Super Bowl Sunday until I read the paper this morning!
ReplyDeleteI think sports has too much influence so good that you ignored sports. There's much more in the world than sports.
DeleteI don't get the appeal of football, never have. Baseball I can watch and enjoy, and hockey, but like you say, the commercials are a nuisance. As for that racist blowhard Cherry, when he dies someday, I'll forego the usual not speaking ill of the dead thing and say good riddance.
ReplyDeleteI will never understand how Cherry stays on hockey night in Canada. He's embarrassing.
DeleteNo, not much of a sports fan, although I did watch the Super Bowl yesterday, with horror!
ReplyDeleteYou make my point . There's much more to participate in like the arts!
DeleteI haven't got a sporting bone in my body but I do like a good long walk. Thankfully North Yorkshire is a stunning area for walkers
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting Hiawatha House. I'll bet you have other bones in your body like the arts?
DeleteAs a Grandmother to six Grandchildren we used to go to Soccer. Still watch Soccer with hubby. Hockey because Grandson played. Watch hockey for finals is our interest only. I find Hockey boring. I too thought Don Cherry spoiled the whole program.
ReplyDeleteI like tennis when the guy who looks like one of my Grandkids plays. Cant even pronounce his name. He is a good Tennis Player # 1. No foot ball but I hear a guy name Brady on the news yesterday. So figured they won the team. I agree the commercials are terrible. That is why hubby and I watch Netflix. No commercials at night. Most time socializing with tenants. Tea time or like today I played shuffle board and we won. Ya!
We go to our kid's games to support them. If you're in shuffle board you are having lots of fun.
DeleteI don't do sports either. Just not my thing. But like you, I enjoy being outdoors, particularly cycling. That's a great shot of you!
ReplyDeleteI do lots of things like skate and ski. Yes, the cyclist is me but the photo is old...2008
DeleteI love to watch the Olympics, both summer and winter. I have been a Green Bay Packer fan all my life but I almost never watch more than a few minutes of a game. It was fun as a group and family activity when I lived up north but it's boring to watch alone.
ReplyDeleteI fully understand why people watch sports. It's got lots of great competition.
DeleteHi Red, I hear you about sports. I think I'm sort of a fair weather fan. Maybe that's not so good? Well, when a team is doing good, especially if it's local, baseball or football, I enjoy watching, or even more, listening on the radio. Like you, I hate commercials. Yes, there are commercials on radio too, of course, but they don't seem quite as annoying to me. :-) I listened to most of the Superbowl on the radio but turned on the TV when it went into overtime. In 51 Superbowls that was the first one to go into overtime. So, I wanted to see how it turned out. I was actually for the Falcons since they were the team that eliminated the Seahawks. But I am just fine with the Patriots win. Of course there are lots of other kinds of sports but I am not really a big fan on any of those.
ReplyDeleteYes, in the good old days we listened to radio. You've got me going. Joe Louis fights on radio, baseball games, hockey, football. they were all great on radio.
DeleteI follow my teams, NFL football and MLS soccer. I don't care much when it's not my team. At our house the Super Bowl was on in the background.
ReplyDeleteAt least you did your Sunday chores.
ReplyDeleteI was very active in Volley ball and Basket Ball, but that was about 3 decades ago.
Detest the game of Cricket.
I don't watch sports either Red, though I had to pick a side for the Super Bowl and chose the New England Patriots, in honor of my mother-in-law who grew up in New England. I do enjoy watching a little golf.
