I admit that the topic well has been a little dry this last while. I've had other things on my mind. I tend to have topics arrive when I'm busy with something else. I make a list. Lately my mind has been taken up with other things and I don't come up with topics.
Well, there are a couple of things on my mind... Trump and terrorism. I don't put the two topics together. However, I'm not sure what to say about either of these topics so it's hard to write about them.
I'll start with Trump. I do not agree with his agenda. I find his personality most unlikeable. Trump is completely unreliable. Now I'd like to comment on these issues and more but I can't. Why? There is no reliable information. Fake news! False news. Now it's not only Trump who plays fast and loose with the truth. The other guys bend things out of proportion. Who ya gonna believe? I like to be able to discuss and have more than reasonable assurance that the information I have is accurate.
So we sit here listening to all the various side shows and meanwhile nothing of substance takes place.
How can one address an issue when accurate information is not available?
Terrorism has rocked our world too many times in the recent past. It's okay for me to sit smugly in a very safe location. There seems to be many ways to react to terrorism. Like the British..keep a stiff upper lip. We'll beat the terrorists. What makes a terrorist? Is anybody responsible for causing people to be terrorists? We have all kinds of people wringing their hands and talking about terrorism. What can they do? It seems like all that is done is talk.
So there are topics that are important. Discussion must take place if improvements are to be made. For the Trump presidency to accomplish anything , people have to begin talking to each other. Playing politics 100% of the time gets nothing done. It doesn't even get you elected all the time. Terrorists build up tremendous hate so that they will kill innocent people. Once the terror is committed the law takes control. Before there is terror some good dialog may help. Keeping separate and yelling at each other does no good.
I wish I knew what to say that would do any good. I'm sure there are many others who wish something could be said to bring about positive change.
Thanks for touching on two difficult current topics Red. You are right to suggest that both topics are hard to entangle.
ReplyDeleteBoth are crucial and have the possibility to do much harm. It's frustrating when the solution could be fairly simple.
DeleteOur kids are going to England at the end of the month. I am trying not to worry, as what will be, will be. There is so much we cannot do anything about.
ReplyDeleteI am hoping the Comey has now brought Trump down. Who knows...
I wouldn't worry about travel to England or the continent. The Comey Trump issue is going to get nasty.
DeleteI know what you mean about the news. I limit myself to the New York Times, the Washington Post, and the New Yorker. I try to stay away from the news shows, although I do watch PBS and CNN now and then. I learn a great deal from my blogging friends, like you, Red. Hang in there and keep on blogging. :-)
ReplyDeleteToo many of these fools have one objective in mind and that is to be elected. They don't worry about governing.
DeleteI don't watch television news anymore. I get my news through the papers. I think it gives a certain amount of distance that helps. The age of 24 hour news channels has had some serious drawbacks.
ReplyDeleteAs to that "man" in the Oval Office, I disliked him years before he mused on politics. I think he's a sociopath, surrounded by sociopaths, and I also think he's suffering the effects of senility- and placed into the most high pressure job on Earth.
He's been a sicky for a long time.
DeleteI don't know how it's possible to negotiate or even relate to people who insist on killing innocent people, including children, all in the name of God. Finding a solution is above my pay scale.
ReplyDeleteMany people have to stop and take a deep breath. You're right there's no negotiation nor should there be. Some of these issues have to be nipped in the bud.
DeleteHi Red, This is a great post. You said a lot here that I've been thinking to myself. First of all, Trump is a total disaster. I don't like to offend his supporters and call them stupid but, gee wiz, can you think of anything T has done to "make America great again"? About 5 months in and he really has no accomplishments except appointing a Justice to the Supreme Court and we haven't seen enough from the new Justice to know how he is going to turn out. T is an embarrassment to the USA. Now, re terrorism ... it just keeps getting worse. The only thing ordinary citizens can do is keep an eye out for unusual and/or suspicious activity and if you see something, say something. I'm afraid things are going to get worse before they get better. Add North Korea to the mix and, wow, what's next? I'll be looking forward to your replies to the comments on this post. Have a great weekend and take good care.
ReplyDeleteA a Canadian, I have to be careful of what I say on american politics. One has to have some understanding of how things work. However, when Trump rants and raves and tweets, it's pretty obvious that he is missing some cutlery. I think history and the age of colonization have set up much of the terrorist activity. Now there's more to it than that as terrorism is not a simple issue.

DeleteVery refreshing take on things, Red. I read the same sources as DJan, above, plus CBC and BBC. But even some of the seasoned journalists seem to be leaning one way or the other. I am wary of anyone who says anything is black and white. As adults we should all know it's not that simple!
ReplyDeleteYou hit the nail on the head with the black and white description. It's not that simple.
DeleteThis is a great post with two very important topics. I read news from a handful of media sources, and even then, I do my own research to get more than one version of the story. There is too much bias these days.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right about dialogue. We need to stop yelling at each other and start talking. Then we might be able to unite and come up with solutions.
There's too much emphasis on winning elections and not enough thought about governing.
DeleteSorry, but will not normalize Trump by pretending it is a "come-together" issue. It is a power issue and a money issue. And I am so angry at this Congress that is keeping their head in the sand.
ReplyDeleteI have given up on reading the news it is too biased, and most of it is fake news anyway.
ReplyDeleteI believe our President Trump could get more done to protect us if his travel bans would go into effect instead of getting blocked.
We are the United States...but since the election the Democrats cannot accept defeat so we are not so much United anymore...and that is sad.
I don't worry about terrorism where I live but I wouldn't want to travel in bigger cities or over seas.
Someone has to do something to stop the terrorists. :(
I think this duel citizen ship is dangerous. Any Religion that wants to chop another ones head off or use bombs or Hand grenades. And kills children. Is a Cult. Think about it.
ReplyDeleteMy husbands nieces daughter is a teacher in London in where the assassination were done. She was twenty minutes walked away where it happen . Or she would of most likely been killed.
I haven't had a television for almost 10 years so the news I read I get from various news outlets such as BBC, Reuters, Irish Times and a few others. I don't believe everything I read but it is my job to research it if I feel it's fake.
ReplyDeleteAs for Trump, I believe he is arrogant and only interested in himself and money.
When it comes to terrorism, I don't know if anyone can stop it but it good to be aware of what is going around you and try to stay safe.
These are just my thoughts Red. Thanks for the post.
Gosh... I don't know what to say. We need to work together with other countries to get anything done, but that's not happening with the current administration. I am totally disgusted with Trump, so it's hard for me to be unbiased here.
