JULY FLOWERS

There are many bloggers who post about their gardens and blooms. Some are very specialized gardeners and their hobby and life is gardening. Their blogs are interesting, informative and colorful. Other bloggers report from time to time to show how things are progressing.

Some bloggers I follow start posting in February. I have to wait until June before I show any blooms.

I am a gardener but not a keener. I look after things well in my yard. I maintain what I have and don't add anything. I'm a safe gardener. Don't take any chances. Do what works.

However, once things get going here we do have some colorful blooms. So here are a couple of things from my yard.

Now tiger lilies are one of my favorites ...more so if they are native plants.

  1. Lilies and lilacs at the same time - everything comes at once in your part of the world. Here those are months apart.

    1. Thanks. Good to see you drop into Hiawatha House.

  3. I guess that in Red Deer the plants have quite a short "window" in which to bloom, attract pollinators and seed. Your tiger lilies look lovely.

    1. Plants are developed to grow in zones. The zones are designated by frost free days. So we grow plants that will mature in the frost free time.

  4. It is a colourful world! It's such a joyful time. It's way too long that we have snow!!!!

    1. Yes , I like nature's diversity but man has stepped in to make a bigger variety.

  6. That is a great stand of lilies. They are so easy to take care of and they are spreading on you. I have a yellow one like but it gets very tall and lays down on the ground. I have to post and tie them each year. I am hoping that I did die that same iris to bring to my new place. I am pulling and tossing some of the things the former owner had in the garden. Any ugly plant that has very little show in color doesn't need to be in my garden. Your peony is going to be beautiful.

    1. I rescued these from an area that the juniper had overgrown and they've done well in more sun.

  7. Looking good, Red! I'm glad to see you finally got a break from the snow. :) I love the lilies, and are those maltese crosses behind them? They look like ours from what I can tell.

    1. Now I didn't know the name of the plant behind the lilies. Maltese cross. I'll write that down.

  9. One and last three are my fav. Picture one can see a little darker picture for my view. Looks like the Lilies people can see from the road as they pass. That would be so nice.

  12. Your safe plants are the same ones we rely on every year, too, Red! You have some lovely blooms there.

I put in some annuals this year and they all turned yellow and stopped blooming - money down the gardening drain :(

  13. P. S. The point of the last part of my comment was to say that's why I don't like to try new things ... they usually die!

  15. Lovely photos of your garden flowers Red. The Tiger Lily is gorgeous! I keep saying every year that I am going to plant lilies. I haven't done it yet.

  16. Your tiger lilies are so pretty! I haven't felt well enough over the last three weeks to tend to my hydrangea or my rose bush. Both have wilted out from the heat.

  17. Beautiful!

About the only plants I can reasonably manage are cacti- I'd end up killing anything else.

  18. Hi Red, Enjoyed all the pictures! I see Tiger Lilies around here (and thank you again for your comment on one photo of them I posted). I don't think I've seen a better "group" (what's a bunch of lilies called?) than the ones in your yard! Very nice! By the way, 25 days now without rain in Seattle. We went from wettest winter on record to a long dry spell. The longest dry spell on record is 51 days. If we get close to that it will reinforce an old weather saying ... Extremes bring extremes. Have a fine week ahead!
