Some bloggers I follow start posting in February. I have to wait until June before I show any blooms.
I am a gardener but not a keener. I look after things well in my yard. I maintain what I have and don't add anything. I'm a safe gardener. Don't take any chances. Do what works.
However, once things get going here we do have some colorful blooms. So here are a couple of things from my yard.
Now tiger lilies are one of my favorites ...more so if they are native plants.
Lilies and lilacs at the same time - everything comes at once in your part of the world. Here those are months apart.
ReplyDeleteI gave the wrong impression . The lilacs were much earlier.
DeleteRed those are just beautiful! Thank you for sharing your gardens!
ReplyDeleteThanks. Good to see you drop into Hiawatha House.
DeleteI guess that in Red Deer the plants have quite a short "window" in which to bloom, attract pollinators and seed. Your tiger lilies look lovely.
ReplyDeletePlants are developed to grow in zones. The zones are designated by frost free days. So we grow plants that will mature in the frost free time.
DeleteIt is a colourful world! It's such a joyful time. It's way too long that we have snow!!!!
ReplyDeleteWe wait a long time for a few days of blooms.
DeleteBeautiful flowers. I never fail to be impressed by nature's diversity.
ReplyDeleteYes , I like nature's diversity but man has stepped in to make a bigger variety.
DeleteThat is a great stand of lilies. They are so easy to take care of and they are spreading on you. I have a yellow one like but it gets very tall and lays down on the ground. I have to post and tie them each year. I am hoping that I did die that same iris to bring to my new place. I am pulling and tossing some of the things the former owner had in the garden. Any ugly plant that has very little show in color doesn't need to be in my garden. Your peony is going to be beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI rescued these from an area that the juniper had overgrown and they've done well in more sun.
DeleteLooking good, Red! I'm glad to see you finally got a break from the snow. :) I love the lilies, and are those maltese crosses behind them? They look like ours from what I can tell.
ReplyDeleteNow I didn't know the name of the plant behind the lilies. Maltese cross. I'll write that down.
DeleteNice to have a few blooms around, they add a touch of your personality to your yard
ReplyDeleteI don't have many blooms but I appreciate the ones I have.
DeleteOne and last three are my fav. Picture one can see a little darker picture for my view. Looks like the Lilies people can see from the road as they pass. That would be so nice.
ReplyDeleteYes, this is right beside the road.
DeleteWow, to see lilacs now is amazing, Red. :-)
ReplyDeleteMy photo was taken about a month ago so no I don't have lilacs now.
DeleteWhat you've got is very beautiful. I love tiger lilies. They are one of my favorites, too.
ReplyDeleteI like the ones found in the bush or on the prairie much better.
Deletelovely blooms
ReplyDeleteYour safe plants are the same ones we rely on every year, too, Red! You have some lovely blooms there.
ReplyDeleteI put in some annuals this year and they all turned yellow and stopped blooming - money down the gardening drain :(
P. S. The point of the last part of my comment was to say that's why I don't like to try new things ... they usually die!
ReplyDeleteYes, ought annuals can be disappointing.
DeleteOh my goodness, your flowers are beautiful! Sure hope the little Lilac bush I bought this summer will some day bloom as pretty as yours are.
ReplyDeleteWe do get blooms. I watch yours that come before our snow melts.
DeleteLovely photos of your garden flowers Red. The Tiger Lily is gorgeous! I keep saying every year that I am going to plant lilies. I haven't done it yet.
ReplyDeleteYour tiger lilies are so pretty! I haven't felt well enough over the last three weeks to tend to my hydrangea or my rose bush. Both have wilted out from the heat.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteAbout the only plants I can reasonably manage are cacti- I'd end up killing anything else.
Hi Red, Enjoyed all the pictures! I see Tiger Lilies around here (and thank you again for your comment on one photo of them I posted). I don't think I've seen a better "group" (what's a bunch of lilies called?) than the ones in your yard! Very nice! By the way, 25 days now without rain in Seattle. We went from wettest winter on record to a long dry spell. The longest dry spell on record is 51 days. If we get close to that it will reinforce an old weather saying ... Extremes bring extremes. Have a fine week ahead!
ReplyDeleteNice ... can't got wrong with native plants.
ReplyDeleteHello Red, your lilies are gorgeous. I also love the pretty iris. Beautiful flowers and garden, you are doing well. Happy Tuesday, enjoy your day and the week ahead!
