That we have a crisis in world leadership is no secret.
Too many leaders seem to be in the position for all the wrong reasons. Too many leaders are in the game for power. They like the personal power. They have biases that they wish to pursue. Very few seem to get it that they are to serve the population and see that the country's resources benefit the people of the state. Very few leaders seem to think that they should be nice and cooperate with other world leaders so that we have peace and prosperity.
There are so many good and pleasant things for leaders to do that one wonders why it's not done.
World events in the last week or ten days have got me thinking about leadership and how warped it has become.
It's hard to understand why North Korea is so desperately worried that they are unsafe and will be attacked unless it's used by the leader to hold and consolidate power. Saber rattling makes for many very unhappy neighbors.
The weekend's election in Venezuela doesn't look like there will be any positive outcome for a long time. Once opposition leaders are being killed it doesn't look promising.
The situation in Turkey seems to be going from bad to worse. Again somebody is dreadfully afraid that he might lose power so the laws are changed so that it's easier to hold power.
President Trump seems to have very little inclination to help the American people. Well, he makes claims that he will help them but nothing much has happened or will happen. Trump is too tied up in other issues which are not on the agenda of helping American people. Trump has many other world leaders worried. As a Canadian, I know I'm worried.
I haven't mentioned the insane situation in Syria.
Now I've used five examples that took place in the recent past. There are many more very ineffective world leaders.
What has happened that we have world leaders with so little capacity to see that they are to serve the people?
I think many people are very worried, but not all those leaders apparently.
ReplyDeleteGreat write up Red, i think it can be realized easily that leader of the whole world have common interests to work upon and that is only their own selfish intentions to acquire personal benefits and among these common interests of them there is no "common man exist"
ReplyDeleteMuch good could be done if they decided to do only positive things.
DeleteAbsolute power corrupts.
ReplyDeleteI've been reading a recent book about the Hilary Clinton campaign. It's very intriguing, the behind-the-scenes power plays. "Shattered."
I think, as with North Korea, the kid grew up in a weird bubble, and is enjoying playing with his toys.
Trump is an old man, with little real world experience, as well. He surprised himself getting elected, and, as with the other leaders, has no moral compass, and no idea how to achieve the goals he set as his platform. Sad.
I'm not so sure that the democrats are lily white when it came to the election.
DeleteI am worried, too, Red. It seems like a very dark time in the history of the world. Or maybe it's just that we are on the verge of major change and it always gets scary before the upheaval. I hope I will live long enough to see some peaceful times. Thoughtful post.
ReplyDeleteI am not terribly alarmed. I just think we are wasting good opportunities.
DeleteThe struggles are terrible
ReplyDeleteThe struggles are terrible and they're over rubbish.
DeleteI have a blogger friend from Venezuela. She has said it's pretty bad down there
ReplyDeleteYes, the strongman is going to make permanent changes for himself.
DeleteYes, I'm very worried what Drumpf will do next...I hope he's relieved of office before he gets the US into some sort of international conflict.
ReplyDeleteI'm not worried about him going to war I just think he is a total waste with his silly little fights.
DeleteCanada's leader seems like a good bloke. Great Britain's current political leader is a useless muppet at the very time we need a leader with character and vision to oversee the Brexit crisis. Please send Mr Trudeau over to us and you can have Mrs May in return. Dress her up like a mountie.
ReplyDeleteYou pick a good word "seems". I think he's doing good and not just wasting time.
DeleteRed getting to a point. When the news comes on The Worlds Crisis.
ReplyDeleteNot a thing we can do. Power has corrupted. The Leaders don't know what side there butter is spread on. Trump thinks he is still on his old T.V. program Firing people. And Mr. Look at me Ladies and Girls. How do you like my colored socks? Too young Justen. Goodness help us when the marijuana is legalized along with the most dangerous drug going. We will lose our young ones fast. And the police wont beable to save them like they wanted too and on the other side of town also trying to catch the robbers and the bad guys. This world is spinning like a Spinning top. Sad but true. Love seems to have vanished for each other. Teens hearts have grown cold and so the people. Sitting at supper with parents gone. Cellphones take place of conversations. Visiting Grandparents unless they bring cellphones. Unlikely.
Many of our news outlets focus on negative stories. The world would be much better if they concentrated on good news. Pot? It has to be legalized and taken out of the hands of criminals who do sell it to kids. Do we sell alcohol or tobacco to kids? When pot is legalized kids won't get at it.
DeleteI also find places where things are peaceful and orderly don't get any mention in the news.
ReplyDeleteThe lunatic asylum south of the border... I feel sorry for those who voted against that man. In some ways I feel even sorrier for those who voted for him, believing in him, because those are the people in the long run who are getting the most hurt because of him.
I think reporting positive stories would radically change the policies.
DeleteThere is no accountability. They lie, cheat and steal...and nothing every happens to them. As long as they can retain power without consequences, all these corrupt bullies will continue this way. They are there to serve the people, to work for the people, but it doesn't seem to be going that way. They are power hungry and there to serve themselves. It's quite alarming.
ReplyDeleteAs voters we are pretty weak at holding politicians to toe the line.
DeleteUnfortunately, not all leaders believe it's their responsibility to help people. For many, it's all about acquiring money and power.
ReplyDeleteI don't worry about it, what good will that do? President Trump is opposed which ever way he turns, and the press wants to get rid of him. Which news sources can we believe now a days. I do have faith in our Military Leaders, that crazy guy in North Korea needs to be stopped and the UN should do it!!.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean by worry. But we have to keep participating to make sure that things work.
DeleteGood post, Red. They do put power over people. And they use fear to their advantage. It's important to do what we can within our own little spheres of influence to promote peace and not fear.
ReplyDeleteYou're right. we have to be involved.
DeleteI wish we had more statesmen like Jack Layton! I won't say if I agreed or disagreed with his policies, but what a good man and leader.
ReplyDeleteI suppose there have always been bad leaders, and perhaps we were less aware of their antics in the days when news wasn't as easily available as it is now. (I'm thinking about how no one in the west was fully aware of the starvation and Stalin's pogroms in the '30s in Russia, because the reporting coming out of that country was so bad.) Still, with Trump in the White House, we do seem to be at a new low.
ReplyDeleteTrump was the choice of the people. Let's not forget that.
ReplyDeleteThe world is in crisis. Some leaders want more and more power, they want to control people, eventually people have to address their leadership. Only the people can fix things and it won't be pretty.
ReplyDeleteHi Red, Re a comment up the page a bit. Trump is the choice of our "Electoral College" but not "the people." According to the popular vote Hillary won by about 3 million or so. Just setting the record straight.
ReplyDeleteWe are certainly in a troubling era. I think there are 30+ dictatorships currently in the world. Scary times...
