WE HAD A SURPRISE LITTLE EARTH QUAKE

The area I live in has very few earthquakes and they are all small.

Well this morning when I checked Face book some of my friends were talking about an earthquake! In fact, my friend Cynthia, was quite shook up   about it. The earth quake occurred around 6:00 AM. Not many people were up at that time but many of them were well aware of what was going  on.  No damage was done but people get a little shook up when the ground moved and things rattled.

The earthquake we had was 4.6 and was originally thought to be caused by fracking in the area. Later it was shown that it was caused by fracing.

So I was still pleasantly asleep at six AM and heard and felt nothing. Many days I am awake around 6 AM but not today when something exciting was going on.

    1. This was fairly localize so did not go far. My son near Vancouver keeps me informed of west coast quakes.

  2. ...fracking, I'm glad that New York state outlawed it.

    1. Very controversial issue. Money pushes it.

  3. Earthquakes are sneaky. We had one a month or so ago but not near us.

We also live close to Camp Pendleton which has big artillery range practice every now and then. Shakes the windows with a huge BOOM.

  5. Don’t you wish you could have felt it? Then again maybe not. When I was in Japan I felt everything shaking but the following morning only a couple of people had felt it. Everybody else had slept through it. Fracking sounds very scary.

  7. That is unusual in your area I think.

    1. It would be unusual. There are small ones that happen but it's not common.

  8. I was jokingly going to ask about fracking -- not knowing that actually WAS the cause of the quake!

    1. Well, with all the fracking in North america you have a good chance of being right.

I'm just glad you are OK. They reported power outages here, out east!

  10. You'd think that people would consider ceasing fracking.

  12. Thank you for the new word "fracing" as a synonym for fracking - I'd not heard that before. I'm not a proponent of fracking because it seems like common sense that groundwater will be affected due to the very nature of the process. It's also been linked to earthquakes in many areas, including yours. It's been put on hold in NS but I think it's only a matter of time before one government or another lifts the ban. There's too much money to be made!

    2. Wikipedia and several other sites all say that fracking and fracing (along with a number of other variations) all mean the same!

  13. Obviously fracking is not good.

  14. I heard about it on the news. Fracking is a real problem but greed seems to rise above common sense.

  17. Hi Red, I had to look up "fracing" ... Wow, 4.6 is a pretty good jolt isn't it? When we had a 5.3 in Seattle years ago there was plenty of damage. Are you OK with fracking and fracing?

  18. The proper term is fracking. I made an error.

  19. Fracking seems like a very desperate activity to me. Squeezing every last drop of energy out of our Earth when fracking investment should clearly be poured into renewables. Earthquakes? The frackers don't give a damn.

  20. Bummer about the quake being caused by fracking. 4.6 is a pretty good shake.

  21. I’ve never felt an earthquake and i would like to — just a small one, please! Hate that it was caused by fracking. You never hear of solar energy doing that!

  22. Sleeping through the earthquake would be better than worrying about it in my opinion.

  23. As long as we want to drive our SUVs 70 mph down the highway, getting less than 20 mpg, we will have fracking ... or maybe something worse. We are playing Russian roulette, whether we realize it or not.
