GUNS

Whenever there is a mass shooting I have to think about guns again.

The solution seems very simple. However, many things get in the way of sanity.

I know very little about gun politics and why it becomes so complicated.

I know that I can't understand why after a mass shooting people make a lot of noise but little or no action is taken. It would seem that anybody in their right mind would not want to see many people shot at one time. Why don't people come up with a solution to prevent mass shootings? This is not a protection issue. We don't need something that fires many rounds rapidly in order to protect ourselves. Why aren't guns used to stop mass shooting?

One thing that makes it easy to kill many people quickly is to have guns that fire many rounds quickly. Why are people allowed to walk around with guns that fire rapidly?

The person walking around with a single shot gun isn't going to kill many people. He probably stands a good chance of being shot.

The point I'm trying to make is that rapid fire guns are extremely dangerous compared to single shots. It would seem that this should be enough to control the type of gun on the street. Come to think of it, maybe it would be the best idea to not have guns on the street.

With all the people who are killed in mass shootings, wouldn't it seem reasonable to want to prevent these deaths?

Why not get rid of the guns?

    1. It should be simple but it's not. Good to see that you're still in the blog world.

  2. I'm sure there are many gun rights folks who could answer your question, but I am not one of them, and I have no answer to "why not".

    1. You can't discuss this with gun people . One , they have the guns and two they are very illogical.

  3. Sometimes I think American people have a passion for guns, they still live in the past as the Wild West time.

    1. It maybe came out of the old wild west but we are in a different age.

  4. Hello, I am not against people owning guns but I do not think they need assault weapons. They are weapons of war. Also, the rule should be changed allowing politicians to receive money from the NRA and other corporations. Their greed seems to be more important than the people who voted for them. These guns should be banned. Wishing you a happy day!

    1. You make my point. There are good reasons for guns like hunting sports and competition. But you don't need so many and such powerful guns.

  5. It's such a political issue, with the NRA saying that any restrictions on guns is against the Second Amendment here in the US. It's sickening to me that nothing has changed, and that just about anybody in the US can walk into a gun store and buy an AK-47. :-(

    1. The scary thing for me is to see people carrying guns as they go about everyday life.

  6. There is too much money in the manufacturing, selling, and promoting of guns, especially by the NRA. It is shameful.
Back in the day of the 2nd amendment, the 'right to bear arms' and the militia meant that the locals who would have been seconded to the Civil War, had their guns inspected twice a year. They were 'well-regulated' back then, and they knew where the guns were. It's insane in this day and age.

    1. Yes, money makes the gun issue go around.

  7. Logic is not part of the gun equation in my country. Money and fanaticism rule here.

    1. Key word here is logic. They have their own logic and it doesn't play by the rules.

  8. The gun lobby seems to obsess with the Second Amendment, but totally ignore elements of it- 'well regulated', for instance.

It is madness. Mass shootings are a rarity in most developed countries aside from the US, where it happens nearly daily now, and 'thoughts and prayers' are the go-to response of those beholden to the gun lobby. To hell with the thoughts and prayers.

    1. We can't get rid of all guns because then the issue goes underground. We need some regulations and control.

  12. I've never owned a gun, but know people who do, or who have. Hunters, collectors, people who just like to target practice in the woods. The answer is not to get rid of guns, but to regulate them. My idea is to treat them like another useful, familiar but dangerous tool, the automobile. So you license the user; register and insure the gun . . . and hold people liable for any death, injury or damage caused by the gun. What's wrong with that?

    1. The big issue is the type of gun and the number of guns people own. I agree with your good question. What IS wrong with that.

  13. I rarely feel as hopeless as I do when it comes to the gun debate. I think the proposed changes to laws in the U.S. by Trump are more red herrings than anything else. Other countries have mental illness and they don't have mass shootings like the U.S. does. And the Second Amendment was made for a different time entirely and is being misapplied to current circumstances. Bah, humbug.

    1. The issue is that the guns people carry can kill many people in a very short time.

  14. I agree with you completely. It all makes me sick to see what has been happening in America. No one needs a rapid fire assault weapon. We need much better gun control laws. We need more easily available help for those with mental illnesses. And most of all we need to have our laws changed so that politicians can not be bought!

  15. i agree with you dear Red because i believe in simple stept that can be taken easily and simply to make it stop

this is sick to allow or to have such dangerous gun while one is walking in public places
    government must take action immediately
