I'm tired of winter. I'm really tired of winter
I'll tell you why.
Yesterday we had a HIGH of minus 18 C (minus 12 F) There was snow. drifting snow and a high wind. Now this didn't set any records but it was very unpleasant. Today I woke up to minus 30 C (minus 22 F) still not a record low.
Now we haven't had a harsh winter. We had 10 very cold days in January. For the most part daily highs were around ) C (32 F). All of Feb was pleasant. Now for some unknown reason the weather is very nasty.
Now to add to my whining, some of the bloggers I follow are showing some great spring weather. They are showing all kinds of flowers blooming. These people really know how to rub it in so I will tell you who they are.
Henny Penny at Henny Penny Lane
Linda at Linda's Letters
The Weaver at the Weaver of Grass
English girl at an English Girl Rambles.
Now there are others who show green grass and blooms. These four culprits are the worst.
I will have to admit that the spring blooms are nice and that there is great photography. The Weaver doesn't show photos but her writing is very descriptive so that you can easily imagine what it looks like.
Okay, I've done my whining. I feel better and I know that spring for me can't be that far way.
Sorry Red. I do not envy you your winter. And since I am pretty much home bound now as we practice "social distancing" I'll no doubt be posting more of my pretty little flowers. Please forgive me.
ReplyDeleteYou know I like all your nursery tours. I'm always amazed at the artistic creations they come up with.
DeleteI understand Red, the cold weather gets very old. We had some almost warm weather (50-60F) for a few days and now it's back to cold (20-30F) and wet. We certainly have not seen any beautiful flowers yet. I agree with you about the blogs you mentioned. They are great blogs with beautiful pictures/descriptions of Spring flowers. Spring will get here for the rest of us - soon I hope!
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm a realist. The weather will do what it wants. Bloggers who post springs that come before mine give me hope for the future.
Deletei felt for you dear Red
ReplyDeletei really hope and pray that spring peak into your world asap ,amen!
our spring is bursting everywhere right now but still when summer ahead come into my mind with 50 plus c i think i would envy your winters :)
Spring will come. Weather changes rapidly here.
DeleteIt is such a relief to see that I am not on your international hit list. How our daffodils have multiplied with the passing years! The sky is blue today so after a visit to the supermarket I think I will go out for another country walk later on. Tra-lee, Tra-la!
ReplyDeleteWell, I can tell you that your super market doesn't have any TP so you can skip that visit!
DeleteHi Red: I think that by now most of us are ready for winter to end, but we just spent the weekend in Algonquin Provincial Park and it was glorious. The lakes are starting to thaw just a little, but it won't be long until there is open water and the loons will return. And it was good to get away from all the dismal CORVID-19 news for a while.
ReplyDeleteYes, I could turn off my radio instead of listening to corvid virus discussion. I've cancelled my bird watching schedule for now.
DeleteI don't know where you live, but Ottawa is doing quite a bit better. Most days are >0 although the nights decend.
ReplyDeleteI live in good old Alberta between Edmonton and Calgary. Sometimes we get early springs and other times spring can be nasty.
DeleteI saw someone interviewed in Calgary yesterday on news. My goodness the snow was still high, fresh snow was falling and flying around and the temperatures were downright frigid. I didn't realize it was still so cold there as last year when I went to Edmonton in early March the weather was lovely through most of Alberta and BC. It is even cold here, brr...with heavy duty hail, windstorms and so on. At least we have no snow.
ReplyDeleteSouthern alberta just has 3 days of snow. We had 5 to 10 cm and that's all.
DeleteHello, we are not having snow but it was 29° this morning. I could not handle your minus temperatures and all the snow. Stay safe and healthy, calm and happy. Enjoy your day, have a great new week!
ReplyDeleteWe learn to live and cope with these conditions. However , the older I get it becomes more difficult to enjoy such weather.
DeleteBoy, this is a hard time for many of us, especially those of us who are overly social. I hardly know what to do with myself, but at least the weather here is way better than you have. We just finished three days of bitterly cold wind from Canada (thanks, Red!) but it's over now and the temperatures will be in the 50s. I guess I'll be posting more often and taking pictures of the pretty flowers beginning to emerge from the ground. Sorry about that. :-)
ReplyDeleteYou just deliberately planned to use your time to take more photos for me! Anyway, we'll all notice a big change in how we have to live with this virus..
DeleteYou do get some really cold temps there. Brrrrr.... It's 30 degrees here this morning, literally freezing. Spring is on its way though. It'll get there.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised that you would get a temp of 30 F.
DeleteHere's what the doctor orders: a round-trip plane ticket to Miami and a two-week stay at an airbnb. Well ... too late for this year, but maybe for next!
ReplyDeleteYes, there's an amazing amount of travel to be cancelled.
Delete...I've missed 2 months of winter, but home is where I want to be now in this troubled times.
ReplyDeleteYes, we have more that we can do at home when we are isolated.
DeleteIt's easier to take the bad weather if it comes when our calendars tell us it's supposed to be here. Much harder when we are starting to think about spring. I hope it warms up some for you soon. Looking at spring on other folks' blogs is a great way to remember that it WILL come, eh?
ReplyDeleteYes, I enjoy seeing blogs about spring even it's long before I get spring. Things change quickly here.
DeleteWe still have some very coldish temps but nothing like yours. We're supposed to be getting some warmer temps by the end of the week. Hope your temps will warm up soon.
ReplyDeleteStay safe and healthy.
We will warm up and it happens quickly.
DeleteCold here too and we will have the negative temperatures later this week! I know I am ready for spring...March weather can be anything. You are in good company Red!
ReplyDeleteMarch weather can be severe .What we just had is not anywhere close to a record.
DeleteWe're around the freezing mark in daytime.
ReplyDeleteWe have that forecast for the next week.
DeleteYour time will come I am sure.
ReplyDeleteThe winter wasn't harsh this year but it did come around! I'm tired of that and am now ready for some spring flowers. At least we didn't get a big dump of snow today like some areas nearby. Instead, we got a lot of rain. And that's okay.
ReplyDeleteI can understand why you are fed up. I feel fed up simply because for the majority of the time we are having gales and rain. Okay we have had the occasional partially sunny day. In fact we have had parts of days with clear blue skies. But I can't remember when we didn't have one with some strong winds and some rain. The ground hardly ever dries out.
ReplyDeleteWow it is cold where you are. Seeing everyone's spring flowers really bring cheer you are right.
ReplyDeleteUh-oh! Does it help that my last flower post showed photos from our 2019 Spring, and we're supposed to be getting some snow in a couple of days? :) Sorry about the weather Red. Hope it clears up for you real soon.
ReplyDeleteIn the midst of all this virus news, I heard that warmer temps could possibly be helpful in stemming the spread. If that's true, I sure hope you get a warming trend as well, Red.
