MORE OF WHAT WE DON'T KNOW ABOUT.

The covid -19 virus has us pinned down because we don't know much about it. Covid - 19 isn't telling us much about itself. We know it can be deadly as the death rate tells us. We know that it spreads rapidly.

There are many things that are not known. Why do cases go from  death, severe and then people who do not realize they had the virus?

There is much debate over the use of masks. There has been change over whether masks should be used or not.

Does having covid - 19 give you immunity from being sick again?

How long is the virus active when it's out of the body.? Is the virus killed by frost, heat or sunlight?

Then there are those who have wild theories about treatment and cure. One famous suggestion is a few shots of antiseptic.!!!  Others think let the kids get the virus . It won't hurt them. Others say let the old people get the virus. They're a drain on the system anyway! Some strange concoctions have been suggested for treatment and cure.

I read yesterday that they are adding 6 more symptoms for covid 19.

One thing the experts say is that we could have this monster for two years until a vaccine is developed.

One thing for sure, is that in the 5 months since the virus has been named not much has been learned about it.

In the meantime we do have things we can do to protect ourselves. I applaud those people who sew their own masks. We can stay in and wash often with soap. We can stay away from others. I have to admit that I sinned mightily this week when a person I hadn't seen for 10 years stopped by while I was in the yard. We were so happy to see each other that we shook hands!

Keep healthy. We'll make it through this.

  1. I’m still so fearful of going out, but then... we can’t stay in until there’s a vaccine either. I’m worried even more about my husband because one thing they say is that men are affected more critically than women. I’ve heard one Texas politician who wants states to open up say that he knew grandparents would be happy to sacrifice themselves for their children and grandchildren. Uuummmm....

    1. I nominate that politician to be the first to be sacrificed. If it's the guy I think I saw on TV saying that, he's no spring chicken and probably has grandkids. So he is an excellent candidate for nomination to be sacrificed first. In all seriousness, what in the heck is wrong with people who have his kind of thinking?

    2. I think we need to be cautious but not overly worried.

    3. susie, I'd volunteer to give that guy a good push to get the virus.

  2. are you boomers okay with the fact that teenagers and young people are having their lives destroyed, and many driven to suicide, just so you boomers can enjoy an extra couple of years of life? How selfish are you boomers? What kind of evil person wants to destroy the youth? Are you boomers not afraid of ending up in retirement homes, staffed by all the young people who you abused and destroyed?

  3. We are back to level 3 here, we had 3 new cases today so not bad. As for masks yes they do work especially in cases where bugs can be spread by droplet infection which is what coronavirus is but you have to know how to wear them correctly and when to change them etc.

    1. You're so right that many masks are very ill fitting even before they're warn and then what materials are being used.

  4. Old habits like shaking hands is very hard to break. I did it myself in the early days of restrictions. Now I don't see anyone so I've managed to avoid the habit.

  5. Masks are not common here yet but I expect that will be a thing soon. The restrictions are easing a bit on Friday this week though there was a new case from international travel yesterday. All 27 cases here were from travel with no hospitalizations or deaths. We have been lucky so far.

Seniors’ homes have not been infected thus far and visitor restrictions will not be lifted any time soon.

I fear we will be living under some form of restriction for a long time to come. Vaccine is our only salvation.

    1. Things will open up a bit but I agree there will be some restriction.

  6. So true. We don't know much about this virus. I guess time will reveal more. For now we are just following the guidelines and hoping for the best.

  7. Hmmm, too bad the guy who recommended a couple of shots of disinfectant wouldn't self-administer!

  8. It is such a puzzle. Since people are being reinfected (or whatever is the exact case), I am not even sure that a vaccine is possible. I sure hope it is.

    1. I'm very hopeful about a vaccine but it might take a while before they get something that's very effective.

  9. We are still restricted to our 2km limit but can go out. All we can do is stay safe and hopefully a vaccine can be found.

    1. 2 km would be a hardship here as things are very far apart.

  11. I sure wish I could find out if we got the virus last month or not. The only way to tell for sure is get an antibody test. Maybe I'll get one if I get the chance. :-)

    1. ... and then again what good would an antibody test do when people have been known to get it more than once.

  12. What I find most difficult right now is having the most idiotic president on the planet during this pandemic. The combination is really a nightmare.

    1. Yes, I think he has caused a much bigger disaster than he knows...one he won't be able to lie out of.

  13. Well, I suppose one slip-up is unlikely to do you any harm. I really think washing hands is the single biggest preventive measure we can take. All the other stuff is good, but nothing substitutes for hand-washing.

    1. I think you're right to rank handwashing as the most important measure to prevent infection.

  14. Hello, I am sickened by the our so called leader's suggestions to swallow disinfectant, insert UV lights into the body or take one for the team and die. I want to scream when I hear this man speak, he talks crazy. I hope you stay safe and take care. Enjoy your day and the week ahead.

  15. I think the main problem with the coronavirus is the fact that there is so much we don't know about it yet. Some people catch it so easily and others not at all, and some will have a mild case while others will be very ill and die. There have been cases of people getting it, getting over it and then getting it again. So they don't know if you can get an immunity to it. The right people are going to have to study this and learn about it and in the mean time we have to figure out the best ways of getting by.

    1. We will have to be more patient than we know. Those wanting to open things up are inviting a disaster.

  16. If I ran into an old friend I hadn't seen in ten years, there'd be some hand shaking, let me tell you. At least we could name the probable source if either of us became sick.

  18. This is a good rundown of the conflicts and contradictions and misinformation and lack of information about COVID_19. My answer is to use common sense but not live in fear.

  19. I cannot believe this remark - "One famous suggestion is a few shots of antiseptic.!!!" Surely nobody could be so stupid and irresponsible as to suggest such a dangerous thing. Was it some online troll or a mentally deranged crackpot? No sane person would ever say such a crazy thing in these anxious times.

  20. Not much is known but the scientists are working on it :)

  21. I read that this virus has been around a very long time, but in animals. They also said that unfortunately since we are encroaching more and more on animal territory there will be more viruses like this one. That’s a terrible thought.

    ReplyDelete
  22. We are in this for the long haul no doubt. I'm taking note of what these reputable scientists are saying and following their guidelines. Trying to be sensible and not giving into the the conspiracy theorists who know that spreading fear will give them control.

  23. So much is unknown about the virus and about the future of it. That makes it hard not to be anxious. I wish I had more faith in the leadership of out country and the state I live in, but there is no trust when they lie and display their incompetence every day. Friday our governor told everyone to go back to work on Monday, wash your hands, and stay 6 feet apart. Then, on tv, he walked right up to the head of Disease Control as she finished speaking and coughed on her! Neither were wearing masks. Be safe, Red.

  24. Red, you've summed it up very well. None of us will know our fate or the fate of our friends and our countries until all this is well behind us. Lew us hope that we are lucky enough to be amongst those who find out.

  25. when it all began i read inline article ,quite long and so much details ,took me more than one hour to read it
everything was same as we know already as common people except one pleasant hope that this dead thing will not be threat for humans after just few centuries as our bodies will get used to it wow what a relief ,reminded me a joke heard long ago
that predictor says to man you will bear so many difficulties for six months
    than ?
and than you will be habitual
best way the human psyche works isn't it :
