Some things that happen around home are definitely calamities. We had two of them yesterday and it wasn't funny.
I think most people have had the experience of putting a kleenex through the wash. It isn't funny. It's enough to make a grown man cry. It happened to us yeterday and was the first time in 54 years. Nevertheless it's traumatic. It's a rude surprise when you open the washer and see the mess. You look at all the little bits of paper on your clothes and in the washer. You wonder how it will ever be cleaned up. After some initial crying you get to work and clean it up. It's Mr Nobody or Mrs Nobody who say it's not their fault that the kleenex went through the wash!
Along with that the one toilet quit working properly and the signal was if it was used it had a good chance of blocking. This same problem had happened before. We had tried many things to get it working properly. Last time it suddenly started working but I'm not sure which I did made it work. Yesterday the same thing happened. I don't know exactly what I did that made it work.
Some plumber! eh?
Maybe I chould check Youtube next time.
And I didn't make any of this up!
While I don't like the mess of a well-washed kleenex, I do find it's not a huge issue when you use a clothes dryer. The kleenex for the most part ends up in the lint screen (which needs cleaning every time a load goes through anyway). For those who hang their wash to dry, I sympathize.
ReplyDeleteA non-reliable toilet makes my blood go cold! It can too often lead to a toilet overflow, and now we're talking REAL crying from me :D I hope your toilet intervention is a permanent fix this time!
I found the roller with tape for taking off lint worked pretty well.
DeleteI do the kleenex thing every now and then. It does not please Sue. I tell her that my mother always used to check the pockets. This doesn't impress her either.
ReplyDeleteIt's not fun at all to see such a mess.
DeleteOh yes, I know that mess of little pieces of kleenex all over the laundry! But hey, if this was the first time in 54 years that you've done that, then you are doing good and your time was up!
ReplyDeleteYes, our time wa up. I like that one.
DeleteYes the older the more forgetful, we shall have to accept to live with it...:)
ReplyDeletewe just forgot to check one pair of pants. We'll remember.
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI have a habit of forgetting to check pockets, so yes I have done the kleenex in the washer a few times. It is messy to clean up. Maybe a Youtube video on plumbing will help the toilet, I hope so. Wishing you a happy day and week ahead!
I will check out youtube. I check youtube for a lot of other things.
DeleteIs it perhaps time for a new and improved toilet?
ReplyDeleteNothing like the old ones that use lots of water!!!
DeleteI've been fortunate to sometimes find a tissue in one piece come out in the dryer after having been washed. How that happens I don't know but it is certainly better than coming out in tiny pieces. I've experienced that too. As for the toilet, oh my the last time my toilet plugged up that was the very worst ever. I was about to call the plumber but my brother worked hard to clear it. He had to google everything and watch YT. He worked so hard at plunging things that he actually got blisters. I was so glad though that his hard work saved me money.
ReplyDeleteYes. a little know how can go a long way.
DeleteThat's strange about the kleenix because I am always leaving it in a pocket but I have an HE washer so it's never a problem. They don't seem to shred at all just ball up and I can remove them. Maybe I'm just not that picky or my eyes are going? As for the toilets...so far so good! That would be a mess! I pray all things go your way now for a good long time! Stay safe and stay well!
ReplyDeleteI am very fortunate. I like o fix things myself.
DeleteWe all know that kleenex problem. I solved it by switching to cloth hankies. And we have only one toilet and it stops up regularly. And you're right, it's a bummer. Glad things are better now, Red.
ReplyDeleteMy toilet doesn't plug for a long time. it just gets slower and slower and you know what's going to happen.
DeleteI'm so sorry! I hope you get it fixed. These are tring times.
ReplyDeleteThe toilet is fixed. It gives me a heads up that trouble is coming.
DeleteOh yes, the tissue problem. We've definitely experienced that bit of a white flecky mess. That and problematic toilets.
ReplyDeleteboth of these are common problem in homes.
DeleteUgh! That Kleenex situation is the worst! I've only had that happen once, that I can remember -- and I think it was a paper napkin, which might have been slightly stronger than a Kleenex. But it was still a mess.
ReplyDeleteThere must be some difference in detergents or washers as some people don't have as big a mess.
DeleteHmmm, makes me wonder what you're putting down the toilet. I remember once, when I was a kid, trying to flush an orange. Didn't work out too well.
ReplyDeletewe are very careful with what DOESN'T go down the toilet. We had kids once!
DeleteOh gosh, so sorry! It's maddening and I have done this several times over the years. Plumbing issues, had that happen too. All these things seems to come at around the same time here, especially when things start breaking down.
ReplyDeleteYes we buy all appliances at the same time and guess what? they wear out at the same time!
DeleteTissue in the wash is much more common here. Once in 54 years is incredible.
ReplyDeleteAs I've said before , we are very careful.
DeleteI did that more than once, it does create a mess. Now I check all my pockets. :)
ReplyDeleteMany people are just too busy to do a thorough search of pockets.
DeleteWith those terrible domestic crises to contend with, no wonder you have stopped thinking about the coronavirus! It is a matter of priorities. I hope that Nurse Kline is not too distressed.
ReplyDeleteDon't mention the Micro Manager and stress.
DeleteThe only good news about the kleenex is, in our old age, generally the wash is small and there are fewer clothes involved. The toilet, I have no encouragement.
ReplyDeleteFortunately there aren't many of those days to live through.
ReplyDeleteThe newer washers can be used with much smaller loads.
ReplyDeleteI do hate when a tissue gets left in the wash. I start by putting the mess in the dryer, which removed much of it. Then you clean the lint filter and get out the lint roller.
ReplyDeleteYup, I've had that happen to me with Kleenex. It makes a real mess! And it does lead to tears :)
ReplyDeleteOh, I've had that happen several times and it does make you feel like crying. I go through the pockets before throwing things in the washer, and then can't imagine how I managed to miss a Kleenex. What a mess!
ReplyDeleteOne type of kleenex or Puffs not sure which does not shred all over but comes through whole...I know this from experience. :(
ReplyDeleteYup! We've had that happen to us more than once. And when we shook out the clothes, we had a tornado of little pieces of tissue all over the place.
ReplyDeleteThe second was more of a headache.
ReplyDeleteyes have had tissues in the laundry and surprisingly gone through the dryer as well and looked like they were ready for re-use, but were of course trashed. been there as well with toilet clogs, never fun events.
ReplyDeleteAnd i thougt it happens to me only
ReplyDeleteTissue do worse than paper believe me
Our toilet blocked few times in sixteen years here in this house hubby luckily can solve any of such domestic problem but for me there is only one solution
Our some cleaning soda or powder in really hot water n pour it in the toilet seat thing ,it works fast mostly but don't tell hubby as he forbid it
