CHALLENGE OF WEBSITES

Okay, I'll get right to my problem. I am severely challenged to log into and sign into websites that one must sign into! I'm not sure that I know the difference between sign in and log in.

      Here's my experience from yesterday.

I've had a miserable Aeroplan account. There's only one business in town that gives Aeroplan points. Needless to say I don't build up many points.

So I decided to spend my miserable  few points and ditch the account.

I know that I have an account with Aeroplan so I thought I'd find out what I could buy and buy it.

Well, I tried to sign in. I had the email I used and the pass word I had used. So when it doesn't work, try again , and again and again. Then try to change your password again, and again and again. Then it says you've been on here too long so it's time out for 30 min.

Well. after deciding to use my number and a few more pass words I got into my account. Then I found out that we could put our miserable points together. Then to add insult to injury I found out that all we could get was a $25.00 gift certificate.

So , I'll order the gift certificate. The miserable website isn't finished with me yet. I ordered three times and nothing happened. Then I spy something that doesn't look like I should click on it . I clicked on it! Presto. I was told that I had just bought a $25,00 gift certificate to Boston Pizza!

Is it just me or does this happen to others. I can't seem to just easily sign into these websites . I just don't seem to be able to read the procedure and follow through.

    There,  that's my gripe.

  1. Many sites are not user-friendly. One of the worst ones, as I recently found out, is the one for the government of Canada. I had to navigate it for several claims I made after my husband passed away. It was horribly frustrating and some days I just gave up and only tried again after a week or so. In one case I had to call instead, and wait for a call back, and that was the only way the claim could have moved ahead - it was stalled for weird reasons that only a human on the government end could escalate. Ugh. It made me seriously wonder if they just hoped most people would give up and then they wouldn't have to pay.

A gift certificate for Boston Pizza sounds good - enjoy! Unless it's tainted by the memory of the trouble it took to get it, that is :)

    1. I have one account with the govt. and it works well but if I tried something else it might not be so easy.

  2. As far as I know sign in and log in are the same thing. I can sympathize with you about signing in to various web sites. I find some are more difficult than others and I hate that we have to have so many different passwords for so many different sites. I understand there are many ways you can get your information stolen these days and we have to be careful but still, it can be a pain! I'm sorry you had so much trouble with that website but I hope you enjoy your pizza!

    1. I keep a list of sites and pass words I use with each one. I guess with this one I hadn't used it for a while so it didn't know me.

  3. Certain websites and their apps for smart phone are very unfriendly and totally useless. I have had this experience most recently with Canadian Tire which I won't go into here. As for Aeroplan I always get my points wiped out for not using them in time. I haven't even tried logging on since years. I don't know what I'll find when I do!

    1. I wanted to use my points before they were wiped out so I had enough for the $25.00 gift certificate.

  4. I do occasionally have problems but the one that bugs me more, and happened yesterday, is when a company alters its website and when you try and log in you can't. I could create a new log-in but if I do I can't see my pending order because it's based on my email address which, of course, it won't let me use twice.

    1. In that situation you're damned if you do and damned if you don't. Somebody isn't thinking when they set up those situations.

  7. Hello,
I have list written down with all my passwords and which email goes with each account. I do not like loosing points if I am able to use them. The gift certificate is nice. Have a happy weekend!

  8. That sounds like such an arduous bummer. Some websites really don't make it easy. I'm not sure why. I wonder if you can call them and ask for a way to change what happened. You may be on hold for a very very long time, but it might be worth it. Good luck with it, Red.

  9. I wish that websites would be more consistent so we could more easily navigate them all. But that doesn't happen and it is probably not going to happen so...
But you didn't give up and you will get a pizza to reward you for your determination! Good!

    1. You've got a good idea for them to make websites consistent with each other.

  10. Just remember: technology does not work for us; we work for technology. Meanwhile, my list of user IDs and passwords continues on to a second page.

  11. I also have the same problem and I am fairly good with computers. Login ID, email ID, login name are all confusing. Some want TWO IDs. They also hide the "next" or "continue" button. My husband is extremely frustrated when he is trying to get into something. Web designs are awful.

    1. You have to be a good , careful reader and then they don't put things in logical order.

  13. Websites in general drive me crazy. Each one is different because each web developer thinks his/her way is best. The ways to pay my monthly bills are many and varied, and finding the confirmation numbers is well nigh impossible. FYI, I have the longest list among your commenters so far of user IDs/passwords/answers to security questions: FOUR pages in landscape mode printed down from an Excel file that I keep on a thumb drive instead of in the computer itself. I keep the printed pages in a secret place. You can’t be too careful. Can you?

  14. And it seems like it's all getting more complicated all the time. I just use the same ones over and over, and only now and then do I run into problems. Hope you like that pizza! :-)

  15. Hi Red, I can feel your frustration. Here is something that’s worked pretty well for me. Open up a spreadsheet. 1st column is website name. 2nd column is email address/user name for login. 3rd column is password. Every time you change user name/password on an account, or open a new one, come back to your spreadsheet and update the information. Hope this helps.

  16. I have switched to a password manager so I no longer know any of the usernames or passwords to any site I visit. I just know the one master password. It has made my life so much easier.

  19. I think any of us who use computers daily share your frustration. I’m glad you finally got your pizza and hope you enjoyed it A LOT, after all your trouble.

  20. Oh no... There's lots of websites that can drive you crazy. Art usually just gives up and calls them up on the phone. There's often a customer service email, phone number or chat line you can use. I have used that chat line often. It's really frustrating!

  21. it happens sometimes that we try and fail to log into website where had been visiting without having any issue ,if new password does not work ,try after sometime like on other day
