SUNDOWN DEC.27

I thought I'd have a little fun today and show the progression of sunset here this afternoon. I learned a few things about photography under these light conditions but I didn't learn any solutions.

Sunset this afternoon was at 4:28 PM. I started taking photos at 4:38 PM took photos every ten minutes. A couple of them are badly out of focus but show the light.  A few others are out of focus.

My first photo was at 4:38 Pm and then the others were at 10 minute intervals.

Now I tried to get these in order from 4:38 to 5:38 but I've failed so you'll have to look at them backwards .

  1. Pretty skies, Red! Sunsets are fun to chase when you're able to spot the sun directly and watch it sink in the horizon. Moves about every 3 minutes when trying to photograph that way. Have fun! Linda in Kansas

  2. I see it was pretty much pitch dark by 5.30. That makes for a long evening.

I read your last post about Christmases past, my own childhood Christmases were similar. I have no idea how my mother had the energy to do it, great big lunch with all the bells and whistles then back up to do it again for tea. Then there was the day my brother took his brand new bike out and hit a parked car whilel trying to figure out the gears. 40 years on I see that my parents could have used more foresight with that but at the time my brother copped the blame. It was pretty miserable

  4. Amazing how we are in our homes this time of day and occasionally miss pretty sunsets.
I so enjoyed reading your posts about your childhood christmases. They sounded similar to mine. My mother was from a family of ten so I had lots of cousins to play with on the holidays. Now we go to one of our daughters. It is fun to watch my grandchildren run around and make their own memories.

  6. Love seeing the transition of light there. I'm surprised that your sunset time is even a bit later than ours here. I would have guessed that your sunset time would be earlier.

  9. The photos are fun . . . from your deck? Maybe a tripod would be useful for the low light.

  10. I looked at them backwards to get the desired effect. It's interesting how the artificial light (streetlight?) becomes more prominent in the later pictures.

  11. This is very interesting. I am always trying to get the right settings at certain times.

  12. Our sunset today will be at 4:26, and with cloudy skies it gets dark fast. Your clear sky allowed you to have fun with your camera.

  13. Sunsets require tripods or weighted bags unless you have a special lens. At least that has been my experience. I both overexpose a few and then underexpose a few and manipulate with software.

  14. OK, Red, I like this. Pretty cool. The time stamp on your photos is a neat addition that lets us see exactly how the light has changed. I take it that you enjoy the heavens like I do. I love the change of daylight as we go through the year. I even like the dark days. :-) How about doing one of these things for sunrise? But wait ... I think I recall you said you like to sleep late. :-) Happy New Year to you and the Micro Manager! John

  15. Good idea for a sequence. The 2nd and 3rd (or 5 and 6) please me most. When you want your photos to be displayed in the t=right order, you probably have to upload them 1 at a time. Blogger always seem to put the last first if you try to upload them in one fell swoop.

  16. Beautiful! I love sequence photos like that and I especially love seeing the outline of the trees against the sky!
