Today is National Siblings day in Canada and in some parts of the United States. It's a day for siblings to say publicly that they care for each other.
I have three living siblings who are brothers. I have always lived away from my brothers but I still enjoy their companionship and when we get together we have a good time. We've been known as Emil's boys and I think the photo was taken at Dad's 80th birthday.
I also have a sibling who left us far too soon. Doreen passed away in February of 1953. She is still missed. One wonders what the family would have been like if she had lived . Doreen has been gone for 70 years and one wonders what the family would have been like with her presence.
What a sweet girl Doreen looks, open and happy.
ReplyDeleteWhat would her life have brought, how would things have developed? I'm sure have wondered often
you sum it up very well.
DeleteSo sorry about your sister. Wondering what could have been is rough.
ReplyDeleteBut, one of your brothers looks like Tom Selleck! Charming! Linda in Kansas
That's the brother who was to replace the sister. Somehow the message didn't get through.
DeleteNo National Siblings Day here in England - not yet anyway. But I shall be seeing my only brother today anyway. So sorry to hear about Doreen.
ReplyDeleteNational sibling's day isn't really big but many people do observe it.
DeleteWonderful photos of your family. I am sure Doreen is missed.
ReplyDeleteHave a happy day and a great new week!
My Dad never came to terms with the loss of Doreen.
DeleteOh that made me cry dear Red!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing treasured photos!
How nice guys are still close spiritually and that matters most.
Doren was such angle like little girl.wherever she is right now she knows how much she is missed by her four kind brothers!
Happy siblings day .many more blessings to you and loved ones
I like your wish at the end of your reply. Thank you.
DeleteHow sad to lose a sibling at such a young age.
ReplyDeleteIt was very unexpected so very sad for our parents.
DeleteSo sorry to hear of that loss, still felt even after all this time.
ReplyDeleteMy Dad never came to terms with this loss.
DeleteThat's like my children - 4 boys and 1 girl. Glad you keep in touch with your brothers. I have one son who keeps himself to himself a bit so that saddens me but I still make it a point to keep in touch when I can. They are all there when I need them, tho! Good kids!
ReplyDeleteI was the only one who left the area but that is because I chose to teach.
DeleteNice post, Red. My only sibling passed away years ago.
ReplyDeleteIt must be terribly difficult when there are only 2 in the family.
DeleteWhat a sad loss that has been, losing your one and only sister at such a young age. We get to keep our memories and all the love in our hearts, but that loss also stays as well.
ReplyDeleteHer death was not expected so was very stressful.
DeleteI have never lost a sibling, but now that virtually all of us are in our 60s, the thought has crossed my mind. Our parents have gone on, and we have moved to the front of the line so to speak.
ReplyDeleteI like the term you use "front of the line."
DeleteThanks for sharing this nice post, Red. I'm sorry to read that you lost your sister at such a young age.
ReplyDeleteIt's always fun to do something for National Siblings day.
DeleteWhat a fine looking bunch. It is hard not to play the “What if” game regarding your sister. Gone way too soon for sure.
ReplyDeletethere have been many what ifs.
DeleteTwo of my brothers have died. One drowned when I was a year old, and the other died of cancer several years ago.
ReplyDeleteThose are losses the family feels for a lifetime.
DeleteI had four siblings, two brothers, a sister. One brother passed away at age 28. My other brother left at 68. Just my sister and me. She's 11 years younger. Every family dynamic is interesting.
ReplyDeleteThe dynamics are not only interesting but very different.
DeleteI like the idea of such a day as this! I had never heard of it but I'm glad to know that it exists.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting Hiawatha House.
DeleteIt's so lovely to remember Doreen which was also my mother's name. Doreen had such a happy face and strangely she looked rather like you Red. How tragic that she went far too soon. I wonder if her care and treatment would have been different today.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your sister ... it just seems so unfair. But all you guys in the photo look hale and hearty.
ReplyDeleteTreatment would have been very different today. She had what is known today as Kawasaki's disease which is a thickening of the blood. Today aspirins usually do the trick.
ReplyDeleteGood to see a photo of your sister, I am sure she would be well loved and teased a bit by all her brothers had she lived. :)
ReplyDeleteI am sorry to hear that you lost your sister. What a lovely photo of her, as was the one with your brothers. These old photos are the true treasures.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry about the loss of your sister too, Red. How wonderful that you have your three brothers. I'm always grateful for my one brother. I wonder if we have a sibling day in the US.
