Yesterday I kept my eye on the sky and the weather radar. We were supposed to have violent thunderstorms. I wasn't so worried about violent thunder showers but about the amount of precipitation we might receive.
Two weeks ago we had a major downpour and our intersection was flooded. We did not have any flooding in the house but I have a sump pump and it was cutting in in less than every minute.
Monday morning about 5 AM we had another major deluge. We had about an inch of rain in about an hour. So the water table came up and the sump pump ran every three minutes.
So you can bet I was watching clouds and following the radar to see how much precipitation we might get.
As it turned out all the thunder cells missed us so no more water was added to our water logged soil .
I'm watching the weather forecast for the next week and you can bet that I don't want any rain.
Now I like clouds. These were in a thunder cell build up this afternoon.
Hope all the storms miss you! Water in your streets is no fun:(
ReplyDeleteWe got quite bit of rain this afternoon.
DeleteRemembering the picture of your neighbor canoeing by, I understand completely why the weather makes you nervous.
ReplyDeleteYes, but today we got quite a bit of rain.
DeleteIt was surprisingly nright around those clouds.
ReplyDeleteI like to hear what your eye picks up
DeleteWe’ve had lots of rain this year too. Crops love it.
ReplyDeleteIt's fine if it's not too much and knows when to quit.
DeleteGlad the storms missed you. Those are some great cloud pictures!
ReplyDeleteThe thunder showers hit us today and yes more cloud photos.
DeleteI'm glad that storm missed you. I wouldn't mind an inch of rain here, but not all in one hour!
ReplyDeleteToday we got heavy thundershowers.
DeleteWow, those are some clouds! We've been warned of violent storms every day for the past week. Nothing ever came. Until last night. We got three inches. But thankfully, our basement is dry. Take care!
ReplyDeleteI like the large expanding cumulus clouds.
DeleteWater can be very destructive in the wrong places. It's good you have that sump pump in place. I hope you get a dry week to help balance things out.
ReplyDeleteWe had showers today but the forecast is for drier weather.
DeleteThose storm cells can be frightening in their violence. Glad you didn't float away.
ReplyDeleteToday we got thunder showers but not the violent kind.
DeleteThey are beautiful shots of great cloud formations. I live in an area where I can take lots of cloud shots.
ReplyDeleteThe building cumulus clouds are my favorites.
DeleteI love the clouds! We too watch the radar. Keep it pulled up on the computer. We have been terribly dry for weeks now, Finally did get two inches of rain. One afternoon before we got the rain we had the most unusual thunder storm. Severe lightning and thunder but not a drop of rain fell. Lightning hit the transformer on the pole near our garden. We were without power for 24 hrs. During that same storm Dan looked out the back door and saw a ball of lightning. I've heard old people talk about lightning balls, but have never seen one. Hope you don't get too much rain.
ReplyDeleteTwo inches would be a lot of rain here.
DeleteThese are lovely.
ReplyDeleteIn terms of rainfall, we seem to be having an average summer. We haven't had real heatwaves.
It's nice when you don't get the extremes.
DeleteI'm happy your rain is holding off!
ReplyDeleteWell, today we got some thunder showers.
DeleteWeather these days often seems like "too much of a good thing" -- or not enough. I would love a downpour here but we're getting nothing.
ReplyDeleteIt's great that the rain is holding off. We watch carefully when strong thunder showers are expected to avoid any water problems.
ReplyDeleteWe are in a heat wave here in the UK too - very oppressive.
ReplyDeleteLove the cloud formation here
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you didn't get the storm. We had a hurricane headed our way that turned into a tropical storm, but they say it will miss us now. We could use some rain without the winds.
