SPRING!

I have not complained about winter weather or a cold spring for a few weeks.

We had a week of above average high temperatures in the high 20's.

As a result spring events are or have happened. Some early flowers are blooming like my blue bells. The native crocus is in bloom. Trees started to leaf out this week.

My furnace has quit running so the house temperature is staying above 20 C.

This morning I noticed that my Nanking cherries were in bloom. I don't think I've ever seen these bushes in such full bloom.

Grass is greening up in town but native grass is still dormant.

So here are my Nanking cherries and some new leaves and green grass.

Today the sun rose at 5:46 and set at 9:17 for a total daylight of 15 hours and 30 minutes. So with long days spring develops very rapidly.

  4. You're busy people over there: no sooner have you finished clearing the snow than it's time to start cutting the grass!

    1. It seems that way. What can happen is that we can get another snow storm.

  5. We shut the furnace off tis week after we noticed it coming on when it wasn't really necessary. At the moment (6am) it's 13 out but still 21 in, so it wouldn't have come on this morning anyway.

    1. I've never seen it with such thick blooms. There are many bees around so there should be lots of fruit.

  14. Those two or three weeks when I can control the temperature of the house to my liking by simply opening and closing the windows is perhaps my favorite time of spring and fall.

  18. It's a beautiful cherry bush. I'm keeping my eye on Alberta due to the wildfires. Here we are also expecting temperatures in the 30s for a few days starting this weekend. Too darn hot so early in the season.

  21. Interesting that the native grass is still dormant...and native crocus getting its flowering done first before it gets swamped by the grass..that figures.
No central heating on here for a few days...and things seem set on growing. Must be Spring!
