FAST AWAY THE OLD YEAR PASSES.
2024 is almost over for another year of good blogging. I've been lucky enough to read hundreds of interesting, thought provoking and informative posts. I've been fortunate enough to read many comments on my posts. Some of these comments make me stop and take a second look at what I tried to say. Of course, I like the complementary comments. A pat on the back always feels good.
I don't need to tell you that there are many types of blogs out there. Some blogs give interesting accounts of daily life. Other blogs teach us new things. So blogs express opinions. Whatever, blogs are interesting. There are many great photographers out there. Some blogs only show photos. Some blogs use photos to go along with their post.
Unfortunately some bloggers cease their operation. It's always sad to lose someone you have been following.
Some bloggers struggle to keep posting. I'm one who sometimes finds it a struggle to come up with interesting topics. I feel that if I have nothing to say, say nothing. At least that's what my Mom told me.
I know of one excellent blogger who passed away this year. It was difficult to lose Pat Thistlewaite. She is missed.
So I look forward to following everybody next year. You make my day.
As you make ours Red! I enjoy the stories of your varied life. Thank you for them! I hope you and the Micromanager have a happy New Year celebration. Here's a question for you (perhaps you've answered it in years past) How was the new year brought in when you were a boy? What was your most memorable New Year celebration?
ReplyDeleteThe religious organization my parents belonged to were all no fun. No parties. No New Years Eve celebration. Most memorable. The first date with my wife was New Years Eve 1964 in Inuvik NWT.
DeleteRed, I should go back and see if I can figure out exactly when I started following you. I’m thinking it has been a decade or so. Hiawatha House is one of my favorite blogs and I guess that’s because you tell us so many interesting things. I especially enjoy hearing about the experiences you had as a teacher and your time in the Arctic. I appreciate the way you reply to comments. I’m always happy to see a new post from you and hope you’ll be around for a long time. Happy New Year to you! John
ReplyDeleteI started in 2008 had NO IDEA OF WHERE I WAS GOING AND WHAT I WOULD DO.
DeleteHi Red, I always enjoy reading your posts and seeing your comments on my posts too! I hope to continue following you in the New Year. All best wishes to you and your wife for a good rest of 2024 and a fantastic start to 2025!
ReplyDeleteI appreciate that you have similar rural and northern experiences.
DeleteIt's a privilege to catch glimpses of the lives of others, a pleasure, too. May 2025 be a year of hope and light.
ReplyDeleteHave a great 2025.
DeleteIt was good to read that, Red.Unfortunately I am one of the Bloggers who, after 17 years, finds it difficult to come up with a way of writing something interesting. I might make a New Year Resolution.
ReplyDeleteYes, make a new year's resolution. We need somebody reporting from the island.
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI enjoy your blog post, all your memories and thoughts.
It is sad to lose a blogging friend, they are all missed.
Take care and enjoy these last days of 2024.
I wish you all the best in 2025, Happy New Year!
And you have a great 2025. As you may know, I'm a birder so I appreciate your blog.
DeleteI like "Hiawatha House" for its honesty and pleasantness - qualities that the landlord of this Canadian blog possesses in equal measure. I recall that when you were the "Blogger of the Year" in 2017 you wore your crown with remarkable dignity.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I won't tell you that I am sneaky!
DeleteI prefer the low key ‘slices of life’ blogs. Yours does this well. Carry in.
ReplyDeleteI am a low key kind of guy.
DeleteThe topics you come up with are always interesting! I especially enjoy the posts where you share with us of your adventures from days gone by. I look forward to seeing what 2025 brings you and what you bring to us! And to sing along from your first sentence..... "Hail the new year, lads and lasses!"
ReplyDeleteI think right now , you're the only Alberta blogger I follow. Alberta bloggers are hard to find.
DeleteI miss blogging and sometimes think about bringing the Dharma Bums back, but there's just not that much to say these days. I always love reading blogs that I have been following for years. Long distance friendships and great photos. I learn about the world through the words posted by bloggers. I'm grateful that you keep on writing, Red. (NewRobin13)
ReplyDeleteWhen the fire from the belly is out it's hard to relight it again. I really liked your blog and hearing of your experiences which were different.
DeleteThanks for educating and entertaining this girl sitting in the Kansas plains. Canadian life and history is cool. Oh, bad pun. Stay safe. Linda
ReplyDeleteWell, my life has been spent on the Canadian plains. I was brought up in a large Mennonite community. Many of them came from Kanas.
DeleteI always enjoy reading your blog Red! Don't put so much pressure on yourself, just relax and write what you feel!
ReplyDeleteA little pressure makes for a better blog.
DeleteGood reflection on blogs, I still remember a blogger who sadly passed away too soon. -Christine cmlk79.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteI love reading your blog, the memories of life before I was even born. :) You tell good and interesting stories. Keep up the magic and have a great 2025.
ReplyDeleteHappy 2025 to you, You give us a good look at Ireland.
DeleteBlog to please yourself. Everybody else will be happy with what you have to share. As a retired educator and former country girl, I can identify with much of what you write about.
ReplyDeleteTeachers stick together and one is that you meet with former colleagues on a social basis.
DeleteThankyou for carrying on...each post quietly anticipated...
ReplyDeleteI wish some of the non-blogging commentators would at least add a little something about themselves..it is nice to know who is commentating!
Yes...losing Pat...Weave...from our community leaves a huge gap.
Great comment gz !
DeleteI worry about anonymous commenters and wish that they would leave some identification.
DeleteI enjoy reading along day in the life, or stories from the past. I could share a little more of that!
ReplyDeleteIf I wasn't so lazy, I could use much of this for a biography.
DeleteI love Hiawatha House and it's owner. Keep it up, Red. Or Keith. Or whatever.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I appreciate having a neighbor along for the ride.
DeleteI have a list of blogs at the end of my reading list that have sadly gone silent. Some I know the reasons why and others I can only suspect. But all of them would make me no happier than if they started up again.
ReplyDeleteIt's sad to see a good blog disappear.
DeleteAnd you make our day! Another year, another round of blog posts!
ReplyDeleteI think you do a terrific job with your blog, Red! I always look forward to your posts and you never disappoint. I often tell people that blogs have really been helpful to me since I have retired. I've created a wonderful collection of friends from all over the world who keep me interested in others and make me feel happy.
ReplyDeleteI agree 100% with you on the experience in the blogging world.
DeleteHappy New Year, Red! Wishing you peace, joy and good health!
DeleteI concur with these comments. I have followed you for so long that I don't even wonder whether you'll continue. You are part of my life!
ReplyDeleteI'm part of the furniture. I think you are in about the first ten blogs I started following.
DeleteI always enjoy your posts, Red, but I don’t always leave a comment. Shame on me. You are right about the various kinds of blogs. You and I chose the very same title for our end-of-2024 posts but the contents are nothing at all alike! Hope you keep on blogging for a long time yet.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Red!! Best wishes to you and the Micro Manager!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you, Red and to MM. It's been hard for me to visit people lately because our caregiving is taking more and more of our time. I'm just lucky Art is always here to help. I couldn't do it alone. Art is helping me to come up with ideas for blog posts which is a good thing. If something happens, he'll sometimes take the photo and say "This could be a post." I usually write a bunch of posts and schedule them for later because I know I won't be able to get to my blog for a while.
ReplyDeleteSuch a heartfelt post!
ReplyDeleteI felt very word.
I think the joy I feel in my mental spiritual life, blogging plays crucial role in it. So I agree all you said here
I too feel fortunate to have blog friends like you and all Red
