I rarely look back at old posts. Somehow today I landed on a post from Fri July 6, 2012. What was the topic? International Kissing Day!
So, who am I to write about kissing? But you can go back to the post and see what I wrote, in my ignorance.
The thing that shocked me was the list of commenters I had. I had completely forgotten most of the people who made comments on that post. There are only three people from that time who still follow my blog and make comments. So of the seventeen people who commented , 14 of them have disappeared.
The three bloggers who remain from that time are Far Side of Fifty, Eye on the Edge and Crumbly acres.
Some of them had excellent blogs but somehow ceased blogging. Some were lurkers who only made comments.
One blog that had over a thousand followers ceased. That was Tex Wise girl. She posted every day. Do any of you remember her?
Maybe I should look back at more old posts and could be surprised at some of the topics. Of course, in 2012, I was 12 years younger, so just a young guy!
I occasionally look back over the 18 years that I've been blogging and am astonished by the changes in that period. One stopped 'mid post' and that's puzzled me for years.
ReplyDeleteBlogging is a challenge to keep on going sometimes.
DeleteIt's interesting to look back and be reminded of people and events, and to realise how much we have forgotten!
ReplyDeleteI rarely look back so bloggers seem to quietly disappear and I don't notice it.
DeleteI can't remember when I first discovered "Hiawatha House" but it seem like many years ago. My regular readership has also changed a lot with the passage of time.
ReplyDeleteYou've been one of the regulars who does a daily post.
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI am missing a lot of the old bloggers, like Texwisgirl. She was one of my favorite bloggers. She always shared her dogs, horses and yard birds. Take care, enjoy your day and have a happy week!
I was surprised when she quit but she hinted to a life change that made it difficult to continue.
DeleteI am the same and barely remember some of the bloggers who didn’t stick around for very long. Was Tex Wise the one who posted about whistler ducks a lot?
ReplyDeleteTex Wise did post about ducks. There are some very good blogs that disappear. Sometimes it's just a very interesting blog that disappears.
DeleteSeveral of the bloggers I followed over the years have died. While I didn’t know them, I felt their loss.
ReplyDeleteThat's a tough one as people don't share the end on their blog.
DeleteI have about the same percentage of defunct commentors when I look back at some of my older posts. In fact, I have only one person who comments now that also left comments 20 years ago.
ReplyDeleteWe seem to have the same number of readers, just different ones.
DeleteI have 4 sons (and one daughter) and I don't think I have ever asked them about their kissing habits!?!
ReplyDeleteWell, I've been a commenter since December 2020, I think. I did a lot of searching through your old posts and that is the earliest comment by me that I can find, I think... Keep up the good work!
I often wonder how many people comment and don't leave a trail.
DeleteI started only in 2014, but have noticed the same trend. We are all old, you know.
ReplyDeleteWell, I wasn't old when I started this journey, but I still enjoy it,.
DeleteI was just reading Susanna's blog (Granny Sue's News and Reviews) and she had posted a photo that she had posted in each of the previous 12 months and talked about that month. It's an interesting idea.
ReplyDeleteThere are some very neat projects from bloggers like the guy who posts cartoons every Friday.
DeleteI had some bloggers who passed on. Sad but it happens to everyone.
ReplyDeleteMost times a death is not posted as someone is not left in charge of the blog.
DeleteI know that Linda (cattle ranch from Alberta) still blogs once in a great while , but Linda and Terry she blogs a number of days a week...she has Life on a Colorado Farm:)
ReplyDeleteI thought Linda was gone. She had a very interesting blog.
DeleteI guess I hadn't connected with you yet in 2012. You did cause me to look back at a few of my posts from 2012 and only a few of the commenters are familiar.
ReplyDeleteRed, I went back and looked at your July 6, 2012 post. I agree, it’s fun to go back and look at old posts. 2012 was 3 years before I found Hiawatha House but I do recognize some of the commenters. By the way, you said only 3 of those commenters were still around, but you missed DJan! 😊 Yes, I remember TexWisGirl … her blog was all about Good Fences. She commented on every one of my posts for several years. A true blogger friend. You are really on a roll with Hiawatha House! 😊 Keep up the good work. John
ReplyDeleteI vaguely remember Tex Wise. Perhaps I came at the tail end of her blogging life. I don't think I have any followers from the beginning days of my blog. So many people just fell by the way side but I know some of them passed on. Others just stopped blogging altogether.
