HUMMING BIRD

Every year I get a visit from a hummingbird. One bird . One visit. That's it.

Two weeks ago I was at the edge of my vegetable garden and out of the corner of my  eye, the humming bird flew to the middle of my garden and then zigged and was gone. I could not see any color or make an identification.  The whole thing was over in a second. I'm used to this kind of visit.

At one time I had scarlet runner beans running up a trellis on the side of the house. I did get more visits with the beans but not many.

I enjoy birds and like to watch humming birds. I've  been places where they have a feeder and many visits are made through out the day.

I guess I'll have to be satisfied with what I get.

  1. I love hummingbirds and used to get visits from them every summer. None the last two summers since I no longer have blossoming trees on my patio and we're restricted from putting out feeders. They flit around so quickly that it's hard to capture them in a photo. Enjoy your fleeting visits.

  2. We get a fair amount every year and thus I've never counted. Certainly more than a couple handfuls.

  3. How strange that it only visits once. Lovely to see it, though, even if fleetingly.

They will be flying south soon.
    Take care, enjoy your day!

  6. Sometimes that is that! I spotted one yesterday, but soon...

  7. I don’t seem to see them at all although I did see a hummingbird moth this year, which is also very unusual.

  8. I love hummingbirds, too, Red. I have a hummingbird feeder and it is always a delight when they pop in for a visit. I had to move my feeder farther away from the house as it was attracting too many wasps and ants so now I can't see the hummingbirds that often. Sometimes they still fly near the window and I think they are saying hi!

  9. That was the "travel agent hummer" checking out spots to recommend clients go - or avoid going!

  10. I'm surprised they are as far north as you live. If you had a feeder, your single birdie might bring some friends. Linda in Kansas

  11. We fed them in May but not since then, occasionally one will buzz through the yard.

  12. My sister has a humming bird feeder and it amazes me how aggressive they are, despite their size.

  14. A fleeting guest, so swift, so small,
One glimpse, one visit—that is all.
Yet in that moment, bright and near,
A hummingbird brings joy each year.

Next year you should set up a feeder!
