TIME CHANGE

I usually have something to say about time change twice a year. This year is no different. Time change means changing time pieces and then getting used to the change.

In this house someone has a strict routine for time change. I's not me. The micro manager has all clocks set at the new time the day before the change. So tonight at 2:00 AM or some such ridiculous hour, the time is supposed to change.

We have an amazing 4 old clock radios. Two of them don't give the time. They only  give the minutes and not the hours.    None of them give decent radio reception so they are of very little use for listening pleasure.

So the Micro Manager runs around the house carrying a small office desk clock setting clocks. We have seven that need to be set. I think. It could be more. Neither one of us wear a wrist watch. The watches are left in the drawer and the time is not changed on them..

The  oven is of particular worry. She thinks the oven clock buttons are fragile and that they will break and then she can't use the oven which she never uses anyway.

So the hardest thing for me to do is get used to doing the routine things an hour earlier. At one time the time change didn't bother me. Now it takes a few days to get used to the change.

  1. Yes, Mr. Red, I also change the clocks before 2 a.m., usually around 8pm the night before. I hope I'm not awake at 2 a.m. Now I'm trying to remember which clocks change on their own, like the computer and my cell, but I'm not sure about my range and microwave. Guess they'll tell me in the morning. Sorry about the Blue Jays; I think they should have won. Linda in Kansas

  2. It’s ~1:30 standard time now. I was hoping that I would go to sleep at my normal late time, which would be more like 12:30, which would mean it would then be 11:30. You see, I would rather get to sleep before midnight. But here I am up later than usual, and the change won’t benefit me. Rats.

  3. The darkness falling earlier is the thing that always catches me out.

  4. I do not like this time change, my dog still wakes me up early. I do not get an extra hour of sleep. The only clocks I need to change are the microwave and the oven. The computer and phones automatically change. Take care, have a great week ahead.

  5. Fortunately our clock setting has been reduced greatly over the years as we get more and more things with self setting blocks. I’m down to two old fashioned battery operated wall clocks and the stove, which I haven’t worried about breaking by setting the time.

  6. Time change doesn't bother me. I set the clocks the evening before and that's that.

  7. The awkwardness you feel is understandable dear Red
Being used to of one longtime routine makes it hard for people to get adjusting to it at first.
The time change is puzzling for too many actually

  9. That's what happens at my house, or used to, until I complained. Now he waits until morning. There are two clocks he can't manage. The car causes much swearing!

  10. I like to change the clocks back as soon as I get up the morning after the time change. It feels like a gift to suddenly have an extra hour. Of course, by the evening I wish the clock wasn't telling me it's so late already :)

  11. We largely ignore it now, knowing my cell phone will rest automatically.

  12. OK, I've got to say this is one thing we don't have to worry about in Hawaii. We don't change our times in spring and fall. HOWEVER, I MUST remember that we are 4 hours apart with Illinois in spring, but 5 hours apart in fall. I think. If I forget, I'm sure my daughter will tell me if I call her at the wrong time. At least the time difference isn't as bad with Art's sister in California.

  13. I hate that loss of light in the afternoon! Dark days of November are upon us.

  14. We have two iHome clock radios with iPhone docking. The iPhones change automatically and docking them updates the clock radios. I was surprised to see that the car clock changed this morning as soon as we started it up. I haven't done the oven clock yet and Tom has four antique clocked he will have to deal with.
I liked having more light in the morning today.

  15. I counted and I have 7 clocks that need to be set manually. It's a bit of pain because I like them to be synchronized, lol. the other clocks on phones and computers thankfully set themselves. Setting the time back or forward doesn't bother me since retirement but I often forget despite the reminders.

  16. I change the clocks well before I go to bed! I enjoy it being light earlier and I don't mind that it is dark earlier.
