HOSPITAL GOWNS

Is it only me, or do other people have an issue with hospital gowns?

Since I have recently been in the hospital, the problems with the hospital gown is fresh in my mind.

What's wrong with hospital gowns you say? Well, they always want the opening at the back. So then they have eleven different strings to so call close  it. Well, I can't reach the strings! And if I get the strings it's only one and I tie a knot and everything falls open. If I do get the strings , I can't tie a knot backwards. If I do get the knot tied up it's so loose, it might as well not be tied. Anyway, if you do get strings tied you walk around with your butt hanging out and I don't like that . Who does?

I've tried being rebellious and tying at the front but exposure at the front is worse than the back and anyway they just tell you to go back and tie the gown at the back. Yes, I tried it.

I've thought of just not putting the gown on and walk out in all my glory, but I think there's a law against nudity in public. Besides that, I think the people at the hospital may decide not to treat me.

So I will have to hope that I don't have to go anywhere where I have to put on the dreaded gown.

So this last time the micro manager was with me and she tied the string properly.

  2. Here it is standard to give the patient two gowns when they aren't in bed - one to put on like you describe and one to put on the other way, like a robe. But you're right, you have to be quite agile to get them tied!

  3. Sometimes if you ask for a second gown, you can wear it like a robe. Usually the original design was to make it easier/faster to provide toilet samples without having to change clothes. If the sleeves have snaps, the nurses have more options for IV lines and heart monitor leads if your gown needs to be changed. Good luck avoiding interactions with hospital gowns! Linda in Kansas

  4. Everyone hates hospital gowns.
If you wear one with the ties at the back and one with the ties at the front, you should be well covered. It might even pass for a stylish "ensemble" 😉

  5. Recently, I am given two gowns, and I mostly manage. One hospital gives me one gown, but it is fancy and difficult for my non-techy brain. Sometimes, I just ask for help tying it.

  6. I have tied many a gown for patients, you're not alone. I have also had many patients put them on backwards, or not worn them at all. Nurses are well used to naked people:)

  8. I know! But now my various hospitals give me two gowns, one to use as a robe over the gaps of the other.

  9. Sorry you've been in the hospital. I've always wondered why don't they give you a belt to tie shut like a robe? At least our bum would be covered.

  10. Red,
Ah yes - - the gown, that drafty design,
With ties behind us we can’t quite find.
A wardrobe test no one can win,
    Unless the Micro-Manager steps in.
May future visits be few and far,
And gowns remain right where they are!

  12. I can't help thinking of the Jack Nicholson movie where he is in a hospital and is being led somewhere while wearing one of those gowns and nothing is tied and his bare ass is facing the camera, for a second. It's a highlight scene!

  14. I agree with you. I'm like Linda above now. I make sure I get two gowns. I ask for them if they don't offer them. I do that when I go for ultrasound or something like that too when they want you to disrobe.

  16. Wear two gowns...one tied in back and the other worn like a housecoat to cover the bare bits! You can slip it off when you get where you are going.

  19. So far... I haven't had to wear the hospital gown with the back opening. It's always been in front like a kimono with just two ties. At least that's what it's been at our military hospital. I really wouldn't want to have it in the back. Well... let's try to stay out of the hospital in 2026.
Have a wonderful happy and healthy new year, Red. Please send our happy wishes to your micro manager too.
