WINTER SOLSTICE

The four quarters of the year are of interest to me. There is a change at those times which is significant. Some changes are positive and some are negative. Now we can look forward to longer days and coming warmth if we're patient.

Before the  internet and when I was a child we did not get details of time. As a child I would watch and wait for the solstice. we did not have any charts to tell us sun up and sun down times.

So here it is: sunrise today was at 8:42. Sunset was at 4:24. We had 7 hours, 41 minutes and 45 seconds of sun up. For those who care, the day got .02 seconds shorter.

I'm having trouble with blogger tonight as certain things  are missing

  1. I have been struggling to make comments. Blogger can be very stubborn!

  3. It is such a relief when the days gradually lengthen.

Blogger keeps on having hiccups..but then gets back on an evening keel!

  6. As a child, the only thing that waking on December 21st meant to me was there were only four more sleeps until I got to open presents!

  8. It's that time of year! I like the changes.
Sorry you don't like my birding, but with social anxiety I do the best I can. The rain and freezing rain doesn't help, either.

  9. You’re right. The information is now all there and available and very precise.

  10. Looking back, I'm not sure I even realized the days got shorter with winter. I know it definitely got colder and we spent more time huddled around the wood stove in the center of our living room and I guess my focus was never on the light or lack of it in the windows but on the toys scattered around me. How times changes things. Now I focus all too much on the light/or lack of it around me and have no toys scattered around me to capture my attention.

  11. You do a fine job of reporting about the daylight hours for us, Red. I never know such things until I read about them on your blog. I look forward to more light!

  13. We who live in northern latitudes appreciate our four distinct seasons. Christmas falling in the darkest season makes Christmas lights all the more wonderful. Many of us leave them up well into January.
Here in NW Washington we did get a bit more daylight than you: Sunrise 7:56 AM, sunset 4:22 PM.
