I usually write about the solstice and equinox. I am fascinated about the position of the sun and length of day. This year I said ,"I'll skip it."
Well you may ask why you're posting now.
We had a very rainy dark solstice. The usual long evening was very dark and dull. The sun sets around 10 PM. But this year is was not a pleasant sunny evening at all.
We had rain and the cloud above us would probably have been ten thousand feet.
So I will take advantage of all the long evenings left . Tonight I went on a three Km walk in pleasant sunshine.
My English husband misses the long summer evenings that he knew in England.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your longer evenings, being farther north.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a nice walk. I like to walk in the early morning when it's cool.
ReplyDeleteI try to get out for a walk on nice days, too. It will be too hot next week so I may have to walk inside the air conditioned shopping mall!?!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry the solstice didn't deliver for you on the right day. Ours is often cold and wet, but this year it was glorious.
ReplyDeleteNice walk, I will enjoy the longer daylight while is still happening.
ReplyDeleteTake care, have a great day!
I enjoyed reading this reflection. Even though the solstice was cloudy and rainy, it's wonderful that you can still appreciate the long evenings and pleasant sunshine afterward.
ReplyDeleteTaking a 3km evening walk at the age of 86 - that gives me hope Red. Maybe I will be able to do the same if I catch up with you. You are fourteen years ahead.
ReplyDeleteI wish these long days would stay long for longer than they do:)
ReplyDeleteDear Red I share your excitement for the earth’s position and changes it goes through during it’s orbit around the sun
ReplyDeleteSorry your solstice day remained cloudy
But on brighter side you were able to take walk under sunshine that sounds amazing 🥰
You are amazing, Red. Sigh... here in Hawaii I don't notice the change in sunlight a whole lot. I sure never did as a child. It was a surprise to me when we moved to Chicago and I'd be working in my classroom at 3:30 and it would start to get dark in winter.
ReplyDeleteHmmm... Actually, maybe it was more like 4:00 PM. My memory is foggy over 20 years after retirement.
ReplyDeleteI remember those still-light-at-10 p.m. days. Great times!
