MUSIC

I enjoy listening to music. I'm not at all musical. I don't play an instrument or sing. However , I do appreciate listening to music.

Because I like listening to music is the reason why I was somewhat distressed when I couldn't find out how to fix my ear buds. I learned that you have to look at all volume buttons.

I listen to a lot of Austrian folk music. Most of their music has vocals. They play a mixture of accordion, saxophone, tuba and any horn . Sometimes there's a guitar. Some of it seems like the friends got together and just have fun. Sometimes it's family groups.

Then I accidentally discovered South African folk music. The instrument I like to listen to is the concertina. You very seldom hear the concertina. After that their music is basically guitar. It's the standard band with rhythm, bass and lead guitar. Quite often the have a banjo. There is very little vocal in their music. My doctor is South African so every time I see him we talk about music.

This music comes on you tube and you have an account made by you tube from examples of music I listen to.

Who knows where I'll go next. I like harpsicord . I may find some harpsicord music.

I also found two brothers (twins) who play the baritone sax. They're awesome.

In the car , I have the radio tuned to a classical music station.

I just don't have enough time in a day to listen to all the music I would like to hear .

MORE MUSIC

I like listening to music. I'm not musical. I can't sing. I don't play an instrument. But I like listening to a wide variety of music.

So everybody knows that I spend time on You tube and sometimes find some interesting things to listen to.

Somehow I hit a spot on Austrian folk music. There's also a little Swiss thrown in the mix. There are hundreds of videos with folk music.

It appears that most of these folks are amateur. It also appears that the bands are made in a haphazard way when friends get together to play. So whatever instruments the friends have, that's what the band is made up of. Almost all have an accordion or two. After that all bets are off. There's a variety of brass . Throw in a few saxophones and clarinets. There are instruments that I've never seen. Many bands have a guitar. Harps! Yes harps. The very odd violin. So you see that there are a wide variety of bands and thus sound.

I am familiar with the piano accordion and have heard of the button accordion. I had no idea there were  many types of accordions. You rarely see a piano accordion. There are very small accordions but they can make lots of music.

And most of all singing. Singing with energy and joy. Now all the singing is in German. I don't understand German but it's still fun to listen the the singing.

then there are the colorful costumes. The men have short pants with huge suspenders. the women have long dresses . Sometime the hair is done in a country or old style.

So take a look at some of these bands .

Go to Youtube and look for Austrian folk music.

YOU TUBE CAN TAKE YOU TO SURPRISING PLACES.

I discovered YouTube three or four years ago. I still haven't really discovered how it works but I've found many very interesting things. Some of the things I've blundered into have been a complete surprise and I sometimes say, "How did Youtube know I liked or wanted that."

Okay, here's what happened. I like to look for things in music that I haven't heard before. So I do some searching. Something comes up and that leads to something else and suddenly there's a whole lot of surprising sites just waiting for you.

Some of the bands I've listened to lately have an accordion.  So I checked out accordion and found a few sites and listened to them.

All of a sudden I was surrounded by music that I had seldom heard. The sites youtube gave me were Austrian folk music videos. So there were many videos featuring people doing Austrian folk music. The singers and dancers were in traditional costume. Settings were mostly in the Alps with some concert halls and street scenes. Bands were quite different but feature several instruments. So the most common instrument was the accordion. I didn't know that there were so many types of accordions. Then other instruments were guitar, violin, the odd percussion, harp, a few horns. There were a few instruments that I had never seen before. These were put together for many different sounds. It looked like a few people got together as friends. If there were three accordions well that's fine. Most of it included singing. It appeared that most of these performances were amateurs.

Many of these groups were kids.

It was all very lively and joyous.

So I'm listening to music that I've rarely listened to and it's most enjoyable.

Find some of these sites and give a listen.

AND NOW FOR SOME MUSIC.

I like listening to music. There's very little music I don't like. After that all bets are off. Some music I like a lot and some not so much. I don't listen to Rap or modern country. So when I go through You Tube I will take a listen to things I've never heard before.

I spend time on You Tube looking for good things to listen to. This week I spent a lot of time searching on You Tube for videos to  go along with my posts.

Well, I did have time to look for music. I wanted to find some bands like Billy  Vaughn, Ray Conif, Bert Kaempfert  James Last and anything else that would crop up.  I liked listening to these  bands when they were popular.

Well wouldn't you know it. I bumbled into a very entertaining band that  I'd never heard  before. It plays typical band music in a very entertaining fashion. It's energetic and very entertaining to watch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7lzGxoUhA4c&list=RD7lzGxoUhA4c&start_radio=1 Go and have a listen to it. I'm sure you'll like it.

Then there were rock groups that were only instrumental...no vocals. I can't even remember one name. So I have something else to look for when I've got some time.

BIM BOM BAY

I have always liked listening to music. I'm not  musician or a singer. I just enjoy music.

So there are many days when a tune, a phrase or piece of music rolls around in my head. Usually this bothers me as it comes back again all day.  I can't stop it. It's known as an ear worm.

Now today was different. Bim Bom Bay popped into my head.  I couldn't quite place the song. A few hours later Jimmy Rodgers popped into my head and then I remembered the song.  Jimmy Rodgers was at the peak of his career in the late 50's. He was a singer and a song writer.

Now this is not the Jimmie Rodgers of country music fame who was from the Carter Family era.  The Jimmie Rodgers known as the singing brakeman.

So I googled Jimmie Rodgers and found the song and listened to it. It's been 60 years since I heard Bim Bom Bay. It brought back a lot of music before rock and roll took over.

There was much good folk music in the late 40's and early 50's. ...the Lime Lighters, Burl Ives,  There were some fantastic quartets like the Four Lads. the Four Aces.

Some of his will start rolling around my head in the next few days and I will remember the groups.

I'm sure other people have the same experience I do and music pops into your head.

So I looked up Jimmie Rodgers and found much more than Jimmie Rodgers.

Oh , Bim Bom Bay comes from a place in Portugal which has a similar sound but different spelling.

What music rolls around in your head?
