The cloud formations were beautiful but the photography was elementary.
In November of 1958 I missed my bus. My only option was to get out and hitch hike. I had hitch hiked a lot so was very comfortable to be out in the November cold. I had faith that I would be picked up. Sure enough in a few minutes I was picked up by a young family with two young kids. They were travelling from Winnipeg to Edmonton so had been on the road a long time and the kids were bored. I road with them for about 160km (100mi). To keep the kids occupied they had them look at clouds and say what shape they saw in the clouds. So there were bears, horses, lions tigers and many more creatures. They also had my attention as I would be watching to which cloud they were referring.
So I had a very enjoyable ride with this family and was entertained by all sorts of cloud shapes the kids saw.
Today I was entertained by the changing morning clouds.
you made me laugh at your 'trying to photograph clouds'. then made me smile at the cool memory... a simpler time when families could still feel comfortable picking up hitchhikers...
ReplyDeleteOkay, okay, I took pictures. I meant I was trying to get some better pictures. Now play with that one!!!
DeleteDriving across the short grass prairie of SD gives ample opportunity for that kind of game. Daughter #2 and I did the same thing heading home after college freshman year orientation trip. Juicy June skies offered lots of whimsical beings.
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly what we had the other day ...juicy June skies.
DeleteI used to stick my thumb out a lot, travel made cheap.I like to watch the clouds on my back.
ReplyDeleteThat's the best way to watch clouds. However I've done a lot of flying in small aircraft and you get a different perspective.
DeleteElementary? You are Sherlock Holmes seeking clues in the clouds :)
ReplyDeleteWe used to lay on the grass to do our cloud gazing.
It's fun as the clouds move, reshape and disappear.
DeletePeople think clouds are white and gray, but when you paint them you realize there are dozens of other colors in them, reflected from all around.
ReplyDeleteWell said from and artist's perspective.
DeleteMy youngest grandson loves to look at the clouds and tell me what he sees. I remember those days from my childhood! Isn't is sad how our world has changed so much that you can't safely pick up strangers any longer without fearing for your life? Enjoyed your cloud photography too, Red. I think you did a great job - some interesting shapes there!
ReplyDeleteThanks. Time watching clouds and nothing else is most enjoyable.
DeleteRed - I don't think you actually TRIED to photograph the clouds - You captured the clouds. Very well done.
ReplyDeleteI remember as a small girl, we would lay on the grass and look up at the sky and do the same thing with the clouds. Imagine, we still do it today, except at our ages, its a longer way down to the grass. ha,ha
Great post and very interesting photos.
Semantics, semantics! I was trying to do more than point and shoot.
DeleteYou probably see some different cloud formations where you live.
Not bad cloud pictures, Red. What did you expect to see, other than clouds? They are filled with bears and horses! Good story, and a good batch of pictures. :-)
ReplyDeleteI was really looking for shape and color. I was also trying to experiment with zoom and keep a few things in focus.
DeleteSome of the best shots were toward the sun and I can't go there with the stuff I have.
Clouds are so magnificent in the real due to size and change that it is really hard to capture that power in a photo, but you done good girl!
ReplyDeleteThanks. Yes the constant changing makes things interesting.
Deletemy one sons looks at the clouds and imagines what they are very time he sees those big puffy ones...kind of fun!!
ReplyDeleteImaginative kids will do what your son does. I'd like this guy.
ReplyDeletei love clouds!--hi-new follower!
ReplyDeleteWelcome aboard! Great to have a new follower. Thanks.
DeleteSo now I was thinking ...songs about clouds? I could do another post.
I love clouds! I miss them very much! You did a great job capturing them for those of us who haven't seen many this year!

I have lived through dry spells and you hope every cloud will bring rain. If you have no clouds it's worse.
DeleteI like to look at clouds too..it is a worthy hobby:)
ReplyDeleteA nice relaxing hobby.
DeleteI love your pictures of clouds. I like clouds so much, I named my white cat with yellow sun rays "Cloud."
ReplyDeleteI would think many different pets received the name Cloud.
DeleteThese fluffy type clouds are my favorite Red. I'd rather see skies with white clouds as a clear blue one.
ReplyDeleteI used to lie down on the bank that bordered our yard growing up and watch the clouds. I often see shapes but know it's hard for others to see what you yourself see.
I see a chubby little sleeping cherub in your second shot sucking her thumb. :)
I looked at the second shot and I couldn't see your cherub. That's the fun of looking at clouds.
DeleteBeautiful cloud photos, and I bet those parents were grateful to have you entertain their kids for a while!
ReplyDeleteFunny how some experiences stick with you for life.
DeleteWow! Such a cloudy perspective! I love it! I, like so many of your readers, use to lay on my back and watch the clouds. I also love to look for "dogs, cats, dragons, bears..." in the clouds. Trouble is too many times my head is in the clouds. Love it! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteReally like your last metaphor where you poke fun at yourself.
DeleteYou tell delightful stories! What a neat memory!
ReplyDeleteGreetings from Cottage Country!
Red I still love to see what I can spot in cloud formations! And hitchhiking was safe back then, not like today, so don't you even think of it young man! ;-)
ReplyDeleteCheers.
