Monday Morning Clouds.

This morning there was much activity in the atmosphere. We had rain over night and so the humidity was very high. With a little day time heating there was lots of activity with the formation of clouds. So I thought I'll try some shots of clouds. The title should be something like learning to take pictures of clouds or something.

The cloud formations were beautiful but the photography was elementary.

In November of 1958 I missed my bus. My only option was to get out and hitch hike. I had hitch hiked a lot so was very comfortable to be out in the November cold. I had faith that I would be picked up. Sure enough in a few minutes I was picked up by a young family with two young kids. They were travelling from Winnipeg to Edmonton so had been on the road a long time and the kids were bored. I road with them for about 160km (100mi). To keep the kids occupied they had them look at clouds and say what shape they saw in the clouds. So there were bears, horses, lions tigers and many more creatures. They also had my attention as I would be watching to which cloud they were referring.

So I had a very enjoyable ride with this family and was entertained by all sorts of cloud  shapes the kids saw.

Today I was entertained by the changing morning clouds.

  1. you made me laugh at your 'trying to photograph clouds'. then made me smile at the cool memory... a simpler time when families could still feel comfortable picking up hitchhikers...

  2. Driving across the short grass prairie of SD gives ample opportunity for that kind of game. Daughter #2 and I did the same thing heading home after college freshman year orientation trip. Juicy June skies offered lots of whimsical beings.

    1. That's the best way to watch clouds. However I've done a lot of flying in small aircraft and you get a different perspective.

  4. Elementary? You are Sherlock Holmes seeking clues in the clouds :)
We used to lay on the grass to do our cloud gazing.

  5. People think clouds are white and gray, but when you paint them you realize there are dozens of other colors in them, reflected from all around.

  6. My youngest grandson loves to look at the clouds and tell me what he sees. I remember those days from my childhood! Isn't is sad how our world has changed so much that you can't safely pick up strangers any longer without fearing for your life? Enjoyed your cloud photography too, Red. I think you did a great job - some interesting shapes there!

  7. Red - I don't think you actually TRIED to photograph the clouds - You captured the clouds. Very well done.
I remember as a small girl, we would lay on the grass and look up at the sky and do the same thing with the clouds. Imagine, we still do it today, except at our ages, its a longer way down to the grass. ha,ha
Great post and very interesting photos.

    1. Semantics, semantics! I was trying to do more than point and shoot.
You probably see some different cloud formations where you live.

  8. Not bad cloud pictures, Red. What did you expect to see, other than clouds? They are filled with bears and horses! Good story, and a good batch of pictures. :-)

    1. I was really looking for shape and color. I was also trying to experiment with zoom and keep a few things in focus.
Some of the best shots were toward the sun and I can't go there with the stuff I have.

  16. These fluffy type clouds are my favorite Red. I'd rather see skies with white clouds as a clear blue one.
I used to lie down on the bank that bordered our yard growing up and watch the clouds. I often see shapes but know it's hard for others to see what you yourself see.
I see a chubby little sleeping cherub in your second shot sucking her thumb. :)

  18. Wow! Such a cloudy perspective! I love it! I, like so many of your readers, use to lay on my back and watch the clouds. I also love to look for "dogs, cats, dragons, bears..." in the clouds. Trouble is too many times my head is in the clouds. Love it! Thanks!
