What Do Old Skaters Do at Christmas?

Well, old skaters have a party at Christmas! I have posted often about my pleasure from skating. I have emphasized how supportive the group is. So in mid December we invite all former skaters and their spouses to the rink and we have a sumptuous lunch. with all kinds of home baked goodies. the Rec Department remembers us with donuts. But most of all we are very excited to see everybody and have a visit.

The tough job of getting skates on in the dressing room.

Some fancy skating!
Here they are again!
So many decisions!

A great table of goodies!

Now I almost feel like I should rename my blog "Snow and Ice" but this group is a very warm one.

  1. I think these skaters would put many of the younger folk to shame.

  2. What a fine group. And I agree with Stephen. I'd be among those shamed.

  3. Hilarious - the "phantom from Down Under" strikes again.
Is that you with the moustache? A reincarnation of Clarke Gable???
Now in heavens name, why have change rooms to put on ice-skates?
Do you have to undress to put on these ice skates????
I would think shoes off and skates on.

I cannot see any Moet with the food, no liquid refreshments?
I am sure chilled Moet or Dom Perignon, Veuve Cliquot, Gosset, and Billecart-Salmon - to name but a few of
the popular brands may have been in order????
And if desperate some of the Californian "so called" champagnes!
We have very good Champagnes here in Australia, but the French, God bless them, objected
strongly about us calling them champagnes. Even tried legal means to stop this Aussie Champagne
stuff. I think the score in the courts ended, Australia 1 and the province of France concerned - Zilch!
And unsliced tomatoes! Really "Mate" , see I am using the terrible name "MATE" - stuff the bureaucrats.
Love the looks of your skating fraternity as they analyse the food - ha ha. Very serious business, I am sure.
Great blog report as always, glad that you had a great time with your "MATES" !!! ( Can't help myself with that
    time honoured word).
    Cheers
    Colin (Brisbane. Australia)

    1. Now Colin, there must be a tremendous shortage of highly qualified optometrist and aphthoamologists in Australia because you have some serious eye problems that have not been attended to. Now first you told me that I looked similar to your father so I assume I'm a handsome dude and don't have a mustache. Now the fellow with the mustache is 89 years old! The tomatoes you see are mandarine oranges . so with eye power like this you need some highly skilled eye people.
Now would you have us sitting on a snow bank to put on our skates? Not when the softy golfers have plush digs to put on their spiffy togs.
We didn't have bubbly but we had lots of other good stuff.
Now I'm mixed up about the "mate " stuff?

    1. And I'm sure you'll have a lively Christmas do. One of the former skaters had just lost his wife a few months ago . He received many hugs.

I think Red this was another case of 'standing in line' but I think this line was worth standing in line for - scrumptious looking goodies!

    1. Ya got me about standing in line! For something like this I usually wait until the line up is over. The stuff was home made so it was rich.

  12. Nothing like a great bunch of friends to find a reason for celebrating...makes for an ordinary day to turn into a rather fun sort of 'magic' day.

At least to my way of thinking!
