However, my walk was not wasted. Last time I forgot to photograph the trail. Birds were very active. So were the mosquitoes. I did pick out three plants that I could not identify and one of my old favorites.
I know I went by a million wild roses so here's just one |
Seneca root |
Northern bed straw |
Up hill but I'll pass the bench |
Continuing up hill. |
Ominous storm clouds |
The Red Deer River is running very high. |
So it was a good afternoon. There were some dark storm clouds. There were a bazillion mosquitoes. I had a good look at the Red Deer River which is in flood stage. We do not have the flooding like Calgary.
glad you've got good water levels - not flooding and not dry. loved the rose and the cool bed straw!
ReplyDeleteLow lying areas did flood but very little of it had buildings on it.
DeleteWhat do you do to prevent the mosquitoes from biting? Otherwise it looks like a lovely walk.
ReplyDeleteI don't do anything to keep mosquitoes away. They don't bother me.
DeleteBeautiful scenery, and I'm glad you aren't troubled by flooding.
ReplyDeleteWe had some flooding but not built up areas.
DeleteI was thinking about you with all the flooding in ALberta but hadn't heard anything dire about the Red Deer area. Calgary is unbelievable!
ReplyDeleteLove the flowers. You do live in Wild Rose country, after all!
Wild Rose country really fits. There was a distinct line between the heavy rainfall and us.
DeleteWhat a beautiful walk! We walked about Chemainus. It was intriguing!
ReplyDeleteChemainus ids beautiful. Make sure you go to the west of the island and long beach and Uclulet.
DeleteFirst off I'm glad you are NOT flooding! Secondly, I loved your walk...your woods are not far from you and you are really not far from the city..pretty nice really.

This is about 300 acres surrounded by the city. We have another patch of 200 and another of 100. The last two were old gravel pits and they have been somewhat restored.
DeleteI enjoyed your walk. It's nice you have that area to explore.
ReplyDeleteWe are fortunate. The old people left their land for parks . today's people want to sell it for everything they can get.
DeleteVery nice but so much rain here as well. We have wood lilies in a nearby native prairie I posted on yesterday. They should be blooming in a week or so....:)
ReplyDeleteThe wood lily goes by several different names and is wide spread across North America.
DeleteHope everything is working out up there in the Canadian territories, Red. I'm glad to hear you don't have any flooding to speak of. But lots of mosquitoes, it seems. :-)
ReplyDeleteThe rain has stopped but you know that with serious flooding it will be years before some of this is fully rebuilt. The Saddle Dome had water up to the tenth row of seats!
DeleteLooks and sounds like a near perfect day.. except for the mosquitos.
ReplyDeleteWell, I had fun just to be out. Mosquitoes don't bother me much.
DeleteI have been following the flooding in Alberta and your river looks quite high - we have had some of the same with rain this past week and forecasted for the next few days or so as well. No flooding, but still lots of rain. Good to hear you all are safe - about those mosquito's - we are bothered more by black flies here and hopefully they will be gone soon. Take care Red. I like the path in your woods.
ReplyDeleteI like that path it looks very accomodating for woodsy walks.
ReplyDeleteHope you are still avoiding the floods. I read quite a bit about them whilst we were in California last week (especially as my son was heading to Vancouver after our SF holiday). Your woodland pictures are quite delightful.
ReplyDeleteThat is a wonderful woodland path. The wild roses are lovely. Glad you area doesn't flood.
ReplyDeleteLovely finds Red!
ReplyDeleteYour path is well maintained and inviting enough to keep you going back time after time.
Good to hear you don't have the flooding.
