Footsteps in the Snow

When I went out Sunday morning, I noticed foot prints in the snow that came around my lilacs. It's very rare to see footprints coming from my neighbors. So I thought someone took a shortcut and walked in front of my house. I looked for footprints in the snow on the walk. I didn't see any? When I came back I looked briefly for tracks.

When I went up my back steps, I noticed footprints that weren't mine that went to the garbage cans in my back yard. The footprints didn't come back? So with further investigating I discovered the person had exited my yard through a hole in the fence.

So this was an odd situation. People don't usually prowl through my back yard. So that was the end of it.

After lunch I was in my driveway and a neighbor  stopped and asked me if I wanted some extra potatoes he had. Hey, I'm in luck if somebody will give me potatoes. He also told me he was going to Mexico for a month.

He left and then stopped and backed up half a block. He opened the window again and said, " I had an intruder at my house last night." So somebody had walked through his yard and entered his garage through and unlocked door. His GPS was missing and he wasn't sure if anything else was gone.

So a thief had waked through my yard. But why?  I think he was at my neighbor's car and when her security light went on he fled around the hedge into the dark at the side of my house. I didn't have anything he could take and he was only interested in escape.

So one wonders who this was? Why was he taking things? How many other yards did he walk through? How many other places lost things?

It's a creepy feeling when some unwanted person prowls through your yard.

Big footprints! Deep snow!

Climb over the  fence and take the snow with you. Notice the nails? I hope he ripped his pants!

  1. We had different track in our front yard last night, except the tracks we noticed were of a coyote following a rabbits trail.
Guess where you live the neighbours are all going to have to keep a lookout on each other. Maybe the police could have followed the tracks and found the guilty party. Keep safe.

  5. Unfortunately there are a lot of desperate people out there, and they will do desperate things.

    1. I'm not really sure people are desperate. This kid probably wanted a pack of smokes.

  6. How horrible to have someone sneaking around and stealing things. This is such an invasion of privacy and it would bother me immensely.

Other than someone invading your space, how've you been Red? It's been a while since I've visited and I apologize for this. On the brighter side of life for me, one more semester done and one to go til I'm finished with this degree!

I hope you have a wonderful week and I also hope whomever it was who hopped your fence split his pants!

  7. You will have to get a shot gun. You can't have folk wandering about willy nilly.

    1. ...and I'm sure the shot gun would keep the bad guys away. I would probably harm myself because I can't shoot straight.

  8. Yek, that is a bad feeling, someone strolling around your house in the night. Hope he will not come back.

    1. Oh , this guy wasn't strolling. I think he was trying to escape the neighbor's security light.

  10. Its someone who obviously knows the neighbourhood if he knew he could escape through your back yard fence, or he already scoped it out before trying. Good report Red - I wouldn't feel too good about this either, and I also hope he ripped more than his pants. Take care buddy, eh.

  11. Sad when this happens, I would have tracked the prints until I lost them.

  12. Glad he didn't have anything around your place to take, Red. Snow makes it hard to hide one's activities. I hope he gets caught before somebody gets hurt.

    1. there's no worry about being hurt by this guy. they're not that desperate that they would add to their problems and hurt somebody.

  13. oh, dear. that's very unsettling. the news reports always say break-ins and thefts pick up heavily before christmas as folks desperate for money or gifts begin stealing to pawn or whatever. very sad. i hope you stay safe!

    1. you're right about more crime at Christmas. They know that there are many gifts in some of the houses.

  14. Is that ever creepy! We've had a rash of arses breaking into parked cars around here. Many smashing widows, to get at potential Christmas presents in parking lots.
There was also a pair travelling around trying to find unlocked cars to steal stuff, too. I'll never understand the lack of morals.

    1. This guy was looking for unlocked cars. many cars have a little change in them. I think there are pieces missing when it comes to morals in some of these people.

  16. Now that's disturbing. I wonder if a motion sensor light would deter future activity around your place.

  17. Not the most intelligent of intruders, snooping around leaving footprints. Probably just an opportunist who came round on spec.

It’s not nice to know somebody has been on your property with evil intent. Unpleasant felling.

    1. Most intruders are not half as smart as they think they are.

  18. Probably kids. They often don't make the brightest of the criminal class at that age.... I keep a GSD handy....:)

  19. That's pretty disturbing. I hope someone gets sight of him. And with so many cameras around these days, maybe he'll get his picture taken and he can be identified.

  21. That must be such an uncomfortable feeling, knowing someone has been sneaking around in the dark. It would make me very cross.

  22. It's good that you had snow so you know when you need to be more vigilant. We don't get that kind of warning here in Hawaii.
