Skater Christmas Party

Every year our senior skating group has a Christmas party. We shame the recreation dept. into supplying donuts and then most skaters bring food. Without any organization we have great variety of sandwiches, cheese  and   all the fancy Christmas goodies you could wish for.

We contact  as many former skaters as we can find.

So after the Friday skate we are ready to have a good time. Former skaters are always excited to get together. It gets pretty noisy as people great one another and visit.

We get ready

Really steppin' out

On the bench when the ice is resurfaced

this is what we came for

You've gotta be careful to get all the good stuff

Good times

  1. The food looks delicious!

Is it un-Canadian of me to admit I've never learned how to skate?

    1. Not un-Canadian at all! There's so much to do and be in this country that we can't be everything.

    1. Now that's a place that a little old guy like me would stay away from. I don't like crowds.

  4. Lots of fun it sounds. I used to eat mammoth amounts after playing hockey, especially ice cream. I love to get on that perfect ice, but skate ponds and creeks also. I have to go a ways to find a rink. My daughter drove the Zamboni a few years. As Red Green said, "Keep your stick to the ice" and live life good.

    1. There's nothing like artificial ice. It's softer and easier to skate on. I liked REd Green.

  6. It is so great that you have still so many oldies skating, amazing. We don't have so much ice-rings here, only a few.

  7. Oh, Red, it's a wonderful tradition, much like our hikers Christmas gathering this past week. Thank you for taking the pictures and sharing them. They definitely are worth a thousand words. :-)

  9. Not a lot of ice skating where I grew up in Virginia and Oklahoma, but I did finally learn (kind of) when I moved to Massachusetts and took the kids skating.
I envy you your skating party. It looks like a lot of fun.

  10. JEALOUS, which is pretty sinful this time of year.

  16. Now that looks like a fun party! The food looks good too! Wish I could ice skate. I used to roller skate. :)

    1. Hey, you could still roller skate. Roller blades are much more fun that the old roller skates. Roller blades are a lot like ice skating.

  17. That sounds like fun. I guess that many senior Canadians have known ice skating all their lives whereas here in England I only went skating once and kept falling on my ass so i never tried again. Ice is hard man!
(My sincere apologies for referring to you as "American" on my blog)

  18. This looks like great fun! I wish I could ice skate. I did try to learn. I really did. If I took a tumble now on the ice, I think I might break something. I'd love to watch you skate though.

  19. Oh how fun! I used to skate a long time ago, but I've got just horrid ankles and always seem to end up with a sprain or a bad fall. We had lots of goodies after our little church Christmas play last night..everyone loves to eat!! Merry Christmas!
