(a) Father's Day
(b) Summer solstice
(c) National aboriginal day
(d) International yoga day
(e) all of the above
I woke up thinking about two things: Father's Day and Summer solstice.
Father's day things happened first. Sometime in the morning the Micro Manager wished me a happy Father's day. She'd taken me out for lunch on Friday. Later I got a phone call from my daughter and son in law. I think about my Dad most days so today there were a few more thoughts. Dad was a big influence in my life. As we grew older the influences changed but the influences were always there and they are still with me today..
Now summer solstice is always a big day for me. It's a prominent marker in the year. I did not get any special photos this year but I have some from a couple of years ago when I was allowed to stay out after 10:00 PM. The sun rose today at 5:14 AM and sets at 21:59. It's a beautiful evening and it will not get dark until around 2300.
This is about 21:45 |

In Canada, it's also National Aboriginal Day. Since I did a post on the aboriginal issue a few days ago , it's a suitable day to recognize.
Now I know nothing about yoga but I thought out of all things recognized today that this would be suitable. It will impress my 84 year old friend who is nuts about yoga.
Now if you look up anything about special days you will find more than you ever wanted to know. So I can go along with the celebration of special days. I do keep things to my own country.
I hope that you were able to do justice to the marking of Father's day and that you celebrated summer solstice.
Happy Father's Day! Fathers are a wonderful person in every ones life...
ReplyDeleteI missed both the solstice and fathers day. It's been one of those weekends.
ReplyDeleteOops!
DeleteFished all night, it did stay light late here.
ReplyDeleteDid you catch anything?
DeleteI enjoy the long evenings with light, although we have some bad weather at the moment, which makes it a bit darker then normal.
ReplyDeleteIf it's clear for solstice so much the better. We have a lot of pollution so even if it is clear it can be off.
DeleteInternational Yoga day really?:) B
ReplyDeleteThat was my sense too!
DeleteI hope you had a wonderful father's day. We went for a nice long walk on the first day of summer. Being outdoors is the best way to celebrate the start of a new season!
ReplyDeleteI had a good day after I dodged a couple of showers.
DeleteI think about my dad every day, too!
ReplyDeleteThey're hard to forget.
DeleteYes I did both of those things, Red: I thought about my dad and got up early to take a picture of the sunrise on the solstice. It's kind of ho-hum, but I wanted one. I don't know how I would manage with that much sunlight when I wanted to sleep. It's bad enough here. Now the days begin to shorten and I'm not sad. :-)
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in the Arctic we had sun for 24 hours a day. I didn't seem to need as much sleep.
Deleteyour days are a bit longer up north than here. :) hope you did have a good father's day - and every day.
ReplyDeleteI do have a good day every day. I'm an optimistic person.
DeleteI saw pictures of thousands of people at Stonehenge celebrating the summer solstice. I don't get too involved, but it is nice having longer days and celebrating the beginning of summer.
ReplyDeleteOnce you've spent time in the Arctic, these days have new meaning.
DeleteYou have a long day!
ReplyDeleteThere's a yoga thing that happens weekly on Parliament Hill during the season. I have to photograph it one of these days.
I've always had it in my head to take a yoga class.
DeleteHope you had a happy Father's Day. I was reminded of International Yoga day yesterday as I was leaving Tai Chi, the yoga people were arriving to use the same hall. I wondered if I might not find yoga easier to remember as there sure is a lot to test the brain cells in Tai Chi. I envy you your long days, it's really cold here today (for our climate, anyway.)
ReplyDeleteIt's good that you do any of those activities. I'm a little uncoordinated for some of it. It's a good thing you said "for our climate" or I'd have razzed you.
DeleteHope your day went good. Saturday a friend and I went to a summer solstice celebration. Both our sons called there dad on fathers day...Coffee is on
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting Hiawatha House!
DeleteWell, all of a sudden we are in different places so we did not celebrate Father's Day as I would have hoped. It is on the burner though for a belated one. Hope yours was great!
ReplyDeleteRed it was confusing to sort out what do do on Saturday, there was so much going on with all of the different events transpiring. As you saw on my blog I opted for an afternoon in the park to celebrate National Aboriginal Day and it was an amazing celebration in a fantastic location.
ReplyDeleteFather's day I too thought about my Dad, he passed when I was merely 2 1/2 so I have very faint vague memories of him but I carry him in my heart. It used to be a sad day for me, not anymore, it's a day to honor my Father in ways that only I understand.
It's so nice our days are finally longer, I love this time of year... especially when there's no rain! lol
Have yourself a fantastic week!
A belated happy Father's Day, Red. I celebrated all three things myself, including Yoga Day. It was a pretty tame celebration from a couple years ago when I did a yoga class on the steps of the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis with a few hundred other people!
ReplyDeleteI do hope you had a fabulous Father's Day, Red. We celebrated it happily. Food was involved, of course. I didn't even notice the summer solstice. However we are certainly getting a lot more sun now. I'm glad it's gotten warmer for you.
