I waited for the light to change. The Trans AM was going to make a left turn. Well, you keep your eye on any car when you're crossing the street and somebody is turning left. I took a good look at the driver in the Trans AM to see if she was aware that I was crossing the street. Not only was the driver female , but she was elderly, very elderly. A wool hat was pulled over great locks of white hair. This driver was alert and aware of everything around her...even an elderly pedestrian crossing the street. After I had crossed, she made her left turn smartly and proceeded with confidence down the block. She looked like she knew how to drive the Trans AM and had driven it for a long time.
So I speculate. Was this lady driving her grand son's Trans AM? Did this lady need a car in a hurry and just picked up a Trans AM? Was this lady a rebel and chose a hot car? How many speeding tickets has she had? Had this lady bought her own Trans AM many years ago and had just continued driving it until they both became old?
What ever the situation, the two images were opposite to what you would expect.
So do you take a second look when the two images don't match?
My 1978 Chevy roadster just before I sold it !!! |
Red your story makes me thing that I'll be one of these elderly ladies one day driving the older hot-rod type of a car... so if this is the case I'd best be buying my Mustang convertible sometime in the near future so we can grow old together! ;-)
ReplyDeleteHow long ago did you sell your Chev? Looks like you got your miles out of it. And you bet I take a second look when I see two images that don't quite match up and generally it puts a smile on my face.
Yes, you'll be the lady but with a Harley! I sold my 78 Impala in Feb. of 2014. I kept it as I had a trailer hitch on it.
DeleteRed I like your thoughts and if my balance isn't quite up to the challenge, there's the three wheels now! lol
DeleteAge shouldn't be a barrier. I say Good on you lady.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you. Don't make excuses using age.
DeleteI am not familiar with cars so I have no idea what a Trans AM is, but it must have been a funny sight to see the old lady driving a "sporty"? car.
ReplyDeleteYes, American and European car models are different. This car was for young people...mainly males.
DeleteNever under-estimate the power of an elderly lady in an elderly trans-am. ha,ha Of course it was hers. We olde girls like our cars too. Have a wonderful day.
ReplyDeleteCars and motorcycles too!
DeleteI'm glad you didn't card her!
ReplyDeleteI've worked and lived with too many minorities to card somebody.
DeleteI drive a van or motorcycle this time of year. My daughter wants to put stick people in my rear window to tease me.
ReplyDeleteYa that would throw people off your trail.
Deletelove it! i believe it's hers and she's driven it a lot. :)
ReplyDeleteI must admit that I thought it was cool.
DeleteYes, I do notice things like that. I've also become very aware of the risks that bicyclists take on city streets and am very careful driving around them. If I am turning right and I see one nearby, I will either hurry up or wait for them to go through the intersection. :-)
ReplyDeleteIt's all reading. We read what other people are doing around us.
DeleteFirst, I think it's really smart to look at the driver and make sure they see you before crossing. This is something that not many people do and something I've tried to teach my kids.
ReplyDeleteAnd it's possible that lady had that car all along. They aged together! I wonder what she was like in her early years?
I am much more careful now. I'll bet she was one interesting character. I would say an artist?
DeleteI've always been wary of drivers while walking- I remember getting hit by a driver who made a right turn while I had the right of way- he was looking left, never even saw me, and I went over his hood. He drove away in a hurry- but a cop down the street saw the whole thing and ran him down.
ReplyDeleteSomething like this would take a life time to get over.
DeleteShe must've been a hot rod chick like the person in the song, " Little Old Lady from Pasadena."
ReplyDeleteYes , I thought about this song as I wrote the post.
DeleteHi Red, Yep, I do keep an eye on those things! :-) I also like to look at the bumper stickers people put on their cars. I don't any on mine, tho. This morning I saw one on a car just in front of me ... "Warning: This car may turn into a robot" Hmmm ... I did smile, but don't what to make of it. Now, I hope you will take a look at my new post on John's Island because I mentioned you in there. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the mention and complement. Some bumper stickers really make us think.
DeleteHi Red, Just following up here. Thanks for your comment on John's Island yesterday. You are so right! I left you a reply on there. You are an inspiration with the way you reply to all your comments and I'm giving it a try on this one post on my blog. I'm discovering that it does take a good bit of time yet seems worth the effort to complete the communication. Thanks again and take care.
DeleteI think it was the lady's car and they grew old together. I like sporty! We bought my Mother's 1998 Toyoto Corolla before she died. The car is good on gas, has low mileage, and is in good shape but I want something sporty, yep, even at my age. :)
ReplyDeleteYou want some vroom , vroom!
DeleteYes they age together. I have friends who will drive that car to the ground unless their leg wont function to step on the brakes. You know as we age so does our legs. So if Nellie lady, Nellie has those numbness feelings in legs. Time she puts out sign in her mind. STOP DRIVING .
ReplyDeleteYou have Bit the dust.
Yes, it's difficult to give up driving. I've had two temporary losses and it's a pain not to be able to drive.
DeleteHers, obviously! She always wanted one and she still feels young and happy every time she takes it out to go to the pharmacy to get her heart pills and the grocery store for her Ensure!
ReplyDeleteSo what you're telling me is that it's all in our head. I think that's right.
DeleteGood for her! I have never driven a Trans Am but I did have a Dodge Charger once upon a time...Mettalic Flake Red...she was a beauty:)
ReplyDeleteI guess I don't usually notice cars much. My husband is always pointing out things to me because I'm so oblivious. He says I need to pay better attention to the traffic. I'm glad she didn't run over you. :- )
