I was doing the cryptoquote yesterday, and this was the quote. For a change, start by speaking to people rather than walking by them like they're stones that don't matter. -Maya Angelou
After Angelou's quote, I feel guilty. A friend has been very ill. He shares his facebook page with his wife. I was telling his wife to keep us posted on Willis's condition. Then I thought, Willis is reading this and I'm talking about him not to him. Embarrassing?
I thought , why didn't I think of finding a quote to go along with my post?
Now there are many excellent blogs that use quotes to great effect. One photography blog The Smitten Image, has a very suitable post with each photo. Some blogs, Button's Thoughts, Just another Day on the Prairie, start with a good quote.
So now I've talked myself into thinking about quotes for my posts. That's going to be a challenge because some of my posts are so odd it may be hard to find a good quote.
Do you use quotes? What blogs do you read that make excellent use of posts?
that one fits well.
ReplyDeleteAgreed!
DeleteI do use quotes fairly often but not in every post. I see quotes on blogs I read from time to time too.
ReplyDeleteA good quote really puts a good touch on a blog.
DeleteI don't quote, as you know. What I love are the different styles of bloggers. I adore your stories, sans quotes! You are so human and humane!
ReplyDeleteOne thing that makes blogging interesting is that each blog has it's own style!
DeleteI think about it sometimes, but I don't use quotes. It's fun to see what other people come up with, though. Are you going to start doing it? :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking about it but as you know. I think a lot and don't get much done!!!
DeleteI sometimes use quotes if they fit the post I'm working on. They can be quite effective.
ReplyDeleteI agree that quotes can be very effective. I think some good research has to be done to find the good quote.
DeleteJust got through Smittens last post.Hillary has a good source for her selections.
ReplyDeleteI really like her blog.
DeleteI don't use quotes very often but I do enjoy them. One of my favorites is by Oscar Wilde: You'd might as well be yourself because everyone else is taken.
ReplyDeleteGreat quote by Wilde. Wilde had reasons for that quote.
DeleteI do quote people as to sometimes enhance a story or to help making the point. When I teach younger kids in English LIt. they hear me explain people by telling them what I remember that they said. Usually my quoting is of pretty much trivial thoughts rather than deep thinking.
ReplyDeleteQuotes certainly enhance. I'll bet the kids sit up and listen when quotes ae made. I always had a Quote of the day on my chalk board. most kids ignored it but some never missed it.
DeleteI use quotes rarely, and sometimes adapt a quote.
