INCIDENTAL SKY SHOTS

The last few days I got some incidental sky shots while I was trying to take a picture of something else.

OK , I'll back up  bit. My ability in photography is limited at best. I had forgotten how to use my camera telephoto. I have a 34 zoom so not much. I wanted to take some shots of the harvest moon. Another problem I have is to keep the camera still. When you're 80 , it's a big problem.

So Friday evening I went out on my step and leaned against the house wall for support and tried to get moon shots. So what ? Skies get dark!

Into every life a little cloud must come. There were thin clouds going across the moon.

Did I say I hadn't found my zoom for a while. The zoom taught me that it focuses on what's closer.
I couldn't quite get the people in the balloon.

This time the camera picked up the yellow and black sign and almost ignored the tree branch

  1. Sometimes I focus on something large that's the same distance from the lens as the thing I want to shoot, then move the camera to the shot I want. Works a lot of the time, but wouldn't work for those balloon shots.

Those are great moon pictures. I like the ones with the cloud passing by especially well.

  2. Those are great moon shots! I have tried to get pictures of the moon but they never come out. I am not a good photographer though and I know what you mean about holding the camera still - my biggest problem these days!

  3. I have never been able to get moon shots as good as these. Great photos! Sometimes I think not being able to focus on the thing I was trying to focus on, come out fun and interesting. I enjoyed your balloon shots and especially enjoyed seeing all those Canadian flags.

  5. Hello Red, your moon photos are great. It is beautiful. We missed seeing the full moon here, it was too cloudy. The hot air balloon was a neat sight to see. Enjoy your day, wishing you a great new week ahead!

  6. What fun! Great shots. My videocamera focuses in the background.
The trick I learned from a pro is to use a tripod and set the timer. That way you can let go, and there is no shaking.

  8. Zoom lenses are tricky, and as for shooting at night -- well, holding the camera still in low light is hard for anyone at ANY age!

  9. Your moon shots are wonderful. I have tried and tried and cannot get a good picture of the moon. Of course, the fact that the camera I use is a little purple 99.00 Kodak, is probably why. Love the pretty balloon too.

  12. It's good to experiment with one's camera and to learn from one's mistakes. Digital photography makes that learning process much easier and cheaper than when we all relied on expensive rolls of film.

    1. Yes, I had a 35 for quite a few years. It took great photos for a green horn.

  17. You did better than you thought Red. I missed the harvest moon, but as I no longer have cameras with zoom lenses it was good to see your shots.
