There are times when I some how or other get taken down a rabbit hole on the Internet! Lately that rabbit hole has been You Tube.
Now I like listening to music and with You Tube I can listen to what ever I want. So when surfing I sometimes find things that I have forgotten long ago. It's sometimes surprising when I find a group that I had long forgotten and then I find out that I have an LP , Tape or CD.
Last night I bumped into two performers that I really liked.
So first, Billy Vaughn. I had completely forgotten about Billy Vaughn. Listening to one tune brought back all Vaughn's music. The Billy Vaughn band had hit after hit. You can bet that I listened to a few if his tunes last night.
The second performer I rediscovered was Mr. Acker Bilk who made much music popular with his clarinet . It's always interesting the long road that performers have to take to get to the top of the heap. Acker Bilk was English and became popular overseas as well. So I did have a tape of Mr Aker Bilk that I remember listening to many times.
So take a listen to these long forgotten performers . Some of you will remember them from a long time ago. and some of you will discover some great music.
I did not remember these musicians at first but as soon as I heard the music it came back to me. It is beautiful and much of it reminds me of some of the old movies from the 1940's that I have always loved. Thanks for taking me back!
ReplyDeleteFunny how we can forget music that is so good.
DeleteI have an Acker Bilk CD which I listen to and enjoy. No YouTube for me, too time consuming.
ReplyDeleteAlphie
I had a reel to reel tape of Aker Bilk.
DeleteI keep getting messages to subscribe to the YT music app, but I resist paying for yet another internet app. Are you paying for this or just surfing the freebies?
ReplyDeleteI'm just surfing. Like you, I don't want to pay for other apps not knowing what I'll get.
DeleteHello, You Tube is great, I have found many of my oldie by goodies. Enjoy your day, wishing you a happy weekend ahead.
ReplyDeleteSome of the quality isn't that great but it's good enough to bring back great memories.
DeleteAh! Acker Bilk - "Stranger on the Shore"... so peaceful and evocative. The name "Acker" was just his nickname. It means "friend" or "pal" in the Somerset county dialect.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know what the Acker meant until I looked it up.
DeleteThis is one of the reasons I enjoy going on YouTube. I run across music that I hadn't heard in years!
ReplyDeleteThere's a lot of very good music that isn't listened to any more. Sad.
DeleteI know how easy it is to get sucked into that rabbit hole. I resist getting involved because it would be hard to let go! I never heard of Aker Bilk. :-)
ReplyDeleteYou were living!!! when Acker Bilk was popular.
DeleteI had a couple of Aka Bilk LPs. However that was long ago and I'd completely forgotten about him. However Alexa obliged me with a good selection. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteFunny how we forget such good stuff.
DeleteHere's a couple of old school favorites worth checking out ...

Enjoy!
I've heard of Tesh but never listened to him. Now I will. Yes, we grew up on Lawrence Welk.
DeleteFinding music on the internet is one of the best things about this connectivity we have. It's a great way to not listen to the news.
ReplyDeleteWell I do follow some news links.
DeleteI've found a lot of music on YouTube from my past and a whole other bunch that I missed. I enjoy the documentaries on various bands that I've found as well. It's one of the good things about the internet. I don't really enjoy the ads sprinkled throughout the longer pieces, though ... but it's better than having to pay to see what you want, I guess.
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm about 50 years behind in music. I'm not familiar with today's music, but if I live long enough I'll get to it.
DeleteMy hubby watches a lot of things on Youtube. It's great to keep up with newies or oldies.
ReplyDeleteI make some interesting discoveries. Maybe I'll find myself on some your tube video.
DeleteI had not heard of either of them before.
ReplyDeleteThey were popular before your time.
DeleteMusic is good for the soul! Here is a link to a You Tube that i really enjoy!

Thanks. I'll take a look.
DeleteThose names are familiar from the distant past but I am not going to allow myself to get hooked on YouTube. I have enough addictions already.:-)
ReplyDeleteWe must make choices.
DeleteRed, I go down thaqt rabbit hold called YouTube on a regular basis. Like yourself, I enjoy seeing videos from performers like those you mentioned and others. I was amazed to read a previous comment that the blogger had never heard of the 2 you mentioned, but then is likely much younger than ourselves :-)
ReplyDeleteI watched many Neil Diamond shows. He was an amazing performer.
DeleteI listen to music on You Tube as well but sorry never heard of the ones you enjoy. I am like in the years of singers like The Bee Gee brothers but only one brother is a live now. My fav group. Neil Sadika. Neil Diamond.
ReplyDeleteYes, I remember those singers.
DeleteBeen there still do that. Apparently great mind often operate in similar fashion when it comes to utube.........
ReplyDeleteI find much more that I like on you tube.
