With being tied down in "jail" things are getting boring. I still haven't got disciplined to do some activities that can be done. Yes, it's spring and cleaning should be done. Yes, I could work on the family tree. None of these things are happening.
We spend most of our time talking about the elephant in the room. There is much to talk about . There's the news. There's the virus and what it is like. There are so many unknowns.
So what does Red do? He makes some of his favorite food. I like rice pudding. I like most puddings but rice pudding is probably my favorite. I found a simple recipe ...one that I can follow and end up with rice pudding.
So here I am hard at work.
Now the best rice pudding was made by my Mom. She made her rice pudding in the oven. This pudding ended up with a skin on top. When we were little guys we used to fight to get the very delicious skin.
So have a great day. What foods are you making while you're cooped up trying to not get the virus?
where's the recipe? You tantalize us but no recipe??
ReplyDeleteJust thought I'd look on line for the rice pudding recipe and there are hundreds of them. So later you should see a recipe.
DeleteMy kids and I love rice pudding and I make it in the slow cooker, I'm an impatient cook so using the slow cooker prevents me burning the milk!
ReplyDeleteMy girls love to bake so we've had chocolate cake and chocolate biscuits. We've also had burgers and hot chips and toasted sandwiches and dumplings and pumpkn soup and sourdough. Yes, so much comfort food!
Good stuff! Good that your kids are into cooking.
DeleteI need your recipe for a simple rice pudding! Sounds great. My favorite find lately was classic meatloaf by Deronda on YouTube. Watch watch her prepare an excellent meatloaf at this link

Stay safe, and be well.
I'll post the recipe later.
DeleteThat rice pudding sounds good! This past week I made homemade chicken and rice soup which is one of our comfort foods. Now I'm planning on making homemade oatmeal cookies. I'm starting to get concerned that this stay at home thing could cause some weight gain!
ReplyDeleteThe stay at home is going to bring some changes for sure.
Deleteyour rice pudding sounds tasty dear Red :)
ReplyDeletei just googled to know more about term and yes it is made here as desert and more often specially in colder part of lands
i try hard to not have skin on my own portion of it though yes it is liked by others
mom used to made the best one with added green cardamom and dry nuts
hope your mood will switch for other pending jobs either
stay well and healthy !
I never thought of a culture where rice is the main staple. At home my mother never cooked rice as a staple. we had potatoes all the time.
DeleteSue recently made a rice pudding in the oven with skin on the top.
ReplyDeleteThat's the best.
DeleteOh yes, all the best rice puddings are made overnight in the oven at the side of an open fire - the fire goes out as the night goes on but the pud ticks over and by lunch time next day is thick and creamy Can't beat it.
ReplyDeleteSounds great. My wife was raised at Royston and they had the same stove.
DeleteI don't cook. An independent grocer here sells things like meat pies and quiche, so I've been buying that and microwaving.
ReplyDeleteYou don't know what you're missing by not cooking.
DeleteThe wonderful brown skin on the top of rice pudding is the best part of all. My wife now makes one, very occasionally, but always on too of the stove. It tastes good, but no skin! I can see that you are "hard at work." It looks very strenuous, Red!
ReplyDeleteAnything is strenuous these days!!!
DeleteI haven't had rice pudding since...forever! I should make it now that we're always at home. Hope you and your Mrs. are doing well!
ReplyDeleteThanks We are doing well and have awesome neighbors who have offered to do things for us.
DeleteI found that even though we all have more time some of us are not getting to the many jobs we could do. Thankfully this past week I started getting to some of the nagging jobs I never seem to have time for but it is slow going. It doesn't help that I've had an off and on cold for so long. I am at least enjoying watching a lot of Netflix.
ReplyDeleteWell, netflix will keep you safely away from unpleasant jobs.
DeleteMy wife has made pizza which I am currently eating. Made some bread in the bread machine, tastes and smells great. :)
ReplyDeleteThe micro manager found her bread machine and is making bread, It's so long since she used it that she had forgotten how to use it.
DeleteI like tapioca pudding, but I haven't had it in ages. I'm a terrible cook but have a husband who is better at it than me. :-)
ReplyDeleteI also love tapioca pudding and make it from time to time.
DeleteWe're making whatever we can scrounge up and the girls will eat!!! Apparently, squash was a mistake the other day. Neither girl likes it!
ReplyDeleteWe grew squash last year and froze quite a bit . It goes well in soups.
DeleteI made shortbread cookies and was quite pleased with my results (never made them before). Only 3 ingredients so not too fancy but tasted fine!
ReplyDeleteWow! Shortbread cookies. sounds great.
DeleteHello, Rice pudding is my favorite comfort food too. I might have to make some now, all your fault. Take care and enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteI think many of us will be cooking things we haven't cooked for a long time.
DeleteI started baking bread again. I hadn't made a loaf in many years, but now I've already baked two loaves. I'm planning on making a loaf every week.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing the photo of you in the kitchen. Hi Red! It's so nice to see you!
The micro manager found her bread machine that she hadn't used for years. she's forgotten how to use it.
DeleteI'm making pyrogies today. Sugar cookies to mail to the grandkids tomorrow. Also on the to-do list - sourdough starter.
ReplyDeleteHey perogies! Great food. I like sourdough bread but the micro manager is not a fan of it.
DeleteI have been avoiding baking/cooking desserts because it is far too easy to gain weight now. I have done some big meal cooking with left overs to last several days: Pot roast last week, a roast chicken and pilaf this week.
ReplyDeleteWe use the same strategy. Have a couple of meals and freeze the rest.
DeleteI like rice pudding, too. How come you don't see it around much anymore? My wife is also doing a lot of cooking. Which means, I am doing a lot of dishes!
ReplyDeleteI get to do the dishes too!
DeleteRice pudding with a skin sounds AMAZING! I'm leaving all the cooking to Dave, as usual. When I cook things often don't go right. :)
ReplyDeleteWell, you know what they say about too many cooks.
Deleteyes, comfort food is definitely in now as is what I've heard is "stress baking." We've enjoyed home made mac & cheese, banana bread and muffins, pizza and bread. Thankfully some of these were shared by giveaways to neighbors. Rice pudding is a favorite, so please share your recipe Red.
ReplyDeleteI'll post the recipe later. I checked to see if the recipe was on line. I was amazed at how many different recipes there are for rice pudding.
DeleteI am most fond of making anything I can eat a few days in a row, or put some of in the freezer. I'm made custard several times, but rice pudding has escaped my mind. I'll try that soon. With raisins!
ReplyDeleteWe use the same strategy here. Frozen meals come in handy.
DeleteRice pudding is one thing I have never had. I'd like to try it though. I can remember my mother making cooked chocolate pudding and it formed a skin on top as well, and it, too, was good. I'm trying not to do too much baking because I'm working on losing weight. But rice pudding sounds healthy-ish!
ReplyDeleteCan't believe you've never had rice pudding. You have never lived!
DeleteBiscuits and bread mostly. Your rice pudding sounds delightful! Our grade school cook made the best rice pudding:)
