HOW ARE YOUR HAND WASHING SKILLS?

During this monster we are told to stay home, stay away from others and wash our hands often.

So for hand washing how diligent are we? So how many wash for 20 seconds? How many use soap and go beyond the wrists. How often is often? I have to believe that handwashing is crucial in the fight against the pandemic. apparently this monster can live a long time as far as a virus goes. Soap does a good job of killing the virus. We are told to keep our hands away from our face. So just in case our had goes to our face it's better if it's a clean hand.

Now , I'm not a good example of a hand washer. My lifetime record is not good. Where I was brought up water, soap and supervision were in short supply. My mother didn't have time to supervise those little hand washers so that it became a habit. On the farm , many times dirty hands were far away from soap and water.

However, I have made a good effort to use lots of soap and water and wash often. I don't think I've got the timing down yet.

I think we have to become vigilant with these simple procedures not to just prevent from getting the virus ourselves but from getting the virus and spreading it to others. Staying home is not fun but I can do it. Keeping a safe distance is not hard to do for me. I don't do the shopping. My wife reasons that it's better to have one person to sanitize than two . I can do lots of walking but it's easy to keep the proper distance when I'm outdoors.

As this virus has gone on the wearing of masks has been recommended. You see more and more people wearing masks. There are many home made masks.

We have to take all these precautions so that we only have to fight this monster once. I'm afraid that we will open things up too soon and have many more ill and double or triple the time that our economy is shut down.

  1. Yes my hands are so chapped and sore. I am afraid that many more will die if things are opened up too soon :(

    1. We do not want to open early but I think we may be forced to open things up to keep going.

  2. I'm good at washing my hands but I have to remind myself to not touch my eyes. I tend to have itchy, allergy eyes so that makes it hard at times. You brought up my biggest concern. I worry they will open up too much too quickly and this will suddenly get much worse. I also worry we could have a big wave of it around Christmas as so many people are out in crowds then.

    1. I have the same situation with allergies and eyes. The posiblity of a second round of this is scary.

  3. We are home together almost all of the time, so I don't wash my hands as excessively as others.

  5. We were fairly conscientious hand washers before the pandemic, but we didn't pay the attention to the procedure we do now. I wash very thoroughly for well past the recommended twenty seconds, but I confess to not going beyond the wrist. I am the shopper in our family. I wear a mask and gloves. I use hand sanitizer before going into the store and when I come out. So far it seems to be working.

  6. Hello,
My hands are starting to hurt from too much handing washing. We are told to wear mask out in public. We will have to wait and see what happens when things are opened up again, maybe soon for some states. Take care! Enjoy your day, wishing you a great weekend!

    1. We are going to have to be very careful about opening up. Patience will pay off here.

  7. Masks haven’t caught on here yet. I imagine as time goes on it will though. We are five weeks into this isolation and coping. I watched a video of hand washing and adjusted accordingly. I think I have it conquered now. Lol.

    1. As isolation goes on we will have to change the program and find some good things to do with our time.

  8. I have washed my hands much more since this started than I ever did before. I don't wash past the wrists, though. It seems like we've been doing this lockdown for a long time. After it's over, I wonder what our "new normal" will look like.

  9. I've always been a bit neurotic about washing my hands, so now I'm just a little bit more so. Wash wash wash. We wear masks and gloves when we shop, which we only do now once a week. I'm hoping that things will calm down a bit, but I'm really hoping for a vaccine. This is quite a time.

    1. Vaccine is certainly the best option but I think a vaccine is still a long way off.

  10. As long as we are at home, I only wash normally. But make sure I wipe with an anteseptic wipe when I am out and about and really wash when I return home.

  11. Not to sound cavalier, but I don't worry about the 20-second thing. I just wash my hands as usual. I think that's good enough. The key is to wash, and wash often.

  12. I'm in most of the time, so I don't wash my hands as much as some other people. As for the masks, you see some people wear them. I haven't yet.

  13. Agree, we can't open up too soon! Personally, I've gone from a C+ hand washer to at least an A-.

  14. We wear masks when we go grocery shopping, and this week when we went plant shopping. We walk in the neighborhood and keep distance from other walkers. Other than that we don't really go anywhere. I have always been a clean hands person, but now with all of the cooking and gardening plus germ defense, my poor hands are dry and cracking.

  15. I wash my hands so much more now that I think of it. Unloading groceries means doozen of people handling things and the sacks.

  16. I now know I wasn't very good at the handwashing before the virus came along but I now find the warm water and soapy hand washing very soothing. I have to turn the water on to lather up, turn it off to save water, then turn it back on again to finish off. I've become quite efficient at using my elbow when touching the tap. Here some people use masks when leaving the house, others don't. We don't. If it is recommended by the health authorities we'll get some from somewhere and use them. It's strange that different places have different advise. It would be so much easier (and reassuring) if there was one right way we could all follow.

    1. It's just one of the great unknowns about this virus. After this somebody better do some research on the value of masks.

  17. I'm afraid we, the public, will run loose too soon, especially the late teens, the twenty somethings. I listen to Governor DeWine's daily briefings and can hear how frustrated he is with the president's pronouncements, and both of them R's.

    1. I think many will go out far to soon and then all hell will break loose. I think the second round will be worse than the first.

  18. The fact that it is an invisible monster that threatens us, makes it so scary. To avoid people in the streets and forces distances between each other feels also so uncomfortable.

  19. I'm certainly aware. I just don't do it as religiously as some. I'm not leaving the house. When we bring groceries in, I do. I agree it'll come back. These are trying times.

  20. CITV-DT (your local TV channel) should employ you to hammer home the "wash your hands" message. I am not too good about washing my hands. I tend to forget. If only the virus had a colour so you could see it. Damned thing!

  21. i am not finding staying at home hard as i am used to it already
wishing hands is not as often as we live inside home most of the time and wash our hands when anyone return from outside or touch any stuff ,i think from ten to twenty times hardly in a day ,masks are everywhere and yes i am scared that if govt decides to open system soon things can get worse though it seems essential as people who depend on daily earning are in bad position despite of all claims by govt that they are providing for them
