LITTLE RICHARD

It's time to comment on Little Richard before much more time goes by.

I was aware of Little Richard when he was very popular. I wasn't a fan but who could avoid Little Richard when he was at the top of his game.

I was always aware if the influence Little Richard had on music. He not only influenced rock but other genres like blues, folk , jazz...  Little Richard was very much outside the box and those people influence. They make you listen and see other ways of performing.

What I didn't know was how unstable Little Richard's private life was. His home and family were somewhat bazare with inconsistencies. His father did not treat Little Richard nicely.

Little Richard's life had its ups and downs and then some great changes.

Little Richard liked singing in churches when he was young. He went back and forth in his life from church to church and at one time he was a minister. I'm sure you wouldn't have gone to sleep in his church. In between bouts of religion he found time to involve himself with too much booze and drugs. After about 10 years he was able to clean himself up. Oh yes , throw in a marriage and a few relationships.

Little Richard lived a long and active life. He was influential. Love him or hate him he changed things.

    1. I don't think the public had any idea of the challenges he faced.

  2. As a child I saw Little Richard in his hey day on shows like Ed Sullivan. He was flashy, loud and unapologetic. I think he led a troubled life with gender identity issues, trying to make a living in a white world and tug of war with his faith. In his old age he seemed to have come to peace and lived a more settled spiritual life. I don't know that for sure. It is just my sense after reading various things and hearing him speak on line. May he RIP.

  4. I was not a great fan of him but it is the sound of those times when we were young, that reminds me that the icons of that time are mortal and those times are fading away slowly.

    1. We all have our own favorites when it comes to music. Right now I'm listening to some great bands like Billy Vaughn.

  11. I only knew Little Richard as a sort of "oldies" act, years after he was first popular -- mainly by his signature song "Tutti Frutti." But he was a groundbreaker in many ways, and yes, he changed things.

  12. I was not a fan either - too much screaming for me back them. But he was fascinating to watch.

  13. a lot of those groundbreaking artistic types seem to have difficult lives, maybe the struggles contribute to their work

  17. He certainly did live a varied and interesting life and put a big mark on music. And our individual taste in music is as diverse as same in food!

  21. While I was never a fan of his music, he did have a great influence on R&R. It seems that many performers had much sadness in their lives which perhaps was overcome with their music as in his case.

  22. he seems intriguing personality

life is given to us like blank paper ,we write or pint on it according to our own attitude and perceptions
sometime our art is abstract but still is loved and adored ,that is luck :)
