So this year for some reason or other I have a very good vegetable garden . It will have something to do with the weather. We've had lots of rainfall. Now I don't have a huge vegetable garden. I just have enough so that I can experience the freshness of vegetables that come directly from the soil.

I do grow some perennials. Could someone tell me what this one is?
Your veggie garden looks good, especially the beets. Down here you will sometimes see veggies growing among flowers and shrubs in the garden that fronts the street. I like the idea of mixing it up but it doesn't always appeal to the purists who think the front is for display and the back garden (yard in Canada?) is for practical vegetables.
ReplyDeleteAlphie.
Sounds like a good use of space to mix up the plants.
DeleteI think the flower in question is bee balm aka monarda if I recall the name correctly.
ReplyDeleteIt's been thee for well over 50 years. It's quite common in the area.
DeleteEverything looks so healthy and lush! Looks like there might be a good yield.
ReplyDeleteIt's been a good year with lots of moisture.
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteYour veggie garden sounds wonderful. We are only growing some tomatoes and a few herbs.. Sorry I can not help with the perennial id, it is pretty. Enjoy your day, have a great week ahead.
The veggies have done very well this summer.
DeleteI'm "green" with envy. We used to have a garden, but not since we downsized to our tiny patch of land in the middle of town. The saving grace -- our brother-in-law who lives in the country and, fortunately for us, is very generous with his produce.
ReplyDeleteWe have to make some difficult decisions at this age.
DeleteMaltese cross? Your beets put mine to shame. I noticed pea pods yesterday and the beans are flowering. I can beans and tomatoes and always hope for a good crop. Onions and carrots usually take me through to Feb.
ReplyDeleteThese are the best beets I've ever grown.
DeleteYour garden looks wonderful. We're growing beets this year and have fallen in love with them already. Delicious. Still waiting for our tomatoes to fully ripen. Yum, the best time of summer!
ReplyDeleteI really like beets and I like borsht
DeleteIt all looks very good, ready to eat soon.
ReplyDeleteI've eaten lettuce , carrots and beets so far.
DeleteIt's wonderful, Red. I think you've done a great job, and those beets look so healthy. Hope you use those greens, they are wonderful too! :-)
ReplyDeleteYou know , I've forgotten about eating the leaves. Thanks for the reminder.
DeleteThat's a lush looking garden, you'll have lots of fresh veggies soon.
ReplyDeleteWe've had good rains this year.
DeleteI believe your red flower is Maltese cross, aka Jerusalem cross (Lychnis chalcedonica). We had one too although ours appears to have died. Yours is VERY healthy!
ReplyDeleteBravo on the vegetable garden! It looks like you're doing a great job. I have no patience for vegetables. I want beauty.
I like your choice of gardens.
DeleteI like your onions. Stuff fresh from the garden is the best. Why the cage by the peas?
ReplyDeleteWell, only you would notice the cage. I have a few nuisances that bother me.
DeleteThat garden is a humdinger!
ReplyDeleteIt's a good year.
DeleteYou have lovely gardens, both flower/shrub and vegetable! (We use garden here the same as you do; I thought "garden" to mean "entire yard" was a British thing?)
ReplyDeleteIt's good to have lots of rain if you have lots of sun too. Here we have had alternating weeks of cold and heat, and my deck plants are sickly and scrawny. It's a big disappointment after last year's initial success :)
Well that's a garden to be proud of.
ReplyDeleteGiven Red Deer's short growing season, it is amazing what you are able to achieve in your plot. Your soil looks good so I guess that helps. Maybe you should change your nickname from Red to Green. Green for Go!
ReplyDeleteWow! Everything you have growing there looks beautiful and so healthy. I would love to grow beets but my husband hates them. Don't know what the flowers are, but they are very pretty.
ReplyDeleteMaltese Cross is my vote and your entire plant is lovely!! Of course your veggies look good too:)
ReplyDeleteI'd be out of my depth doing gardening. Nicely done!
