TIME CHANGE

So daylight savings time is visiting us again. I haven't seen very many bloggers complaining about the time change this year so I will snivel about the change.

I've gone through close to eighty changes to daylight savings time. For most of that time the change has not bothered me. I have never had a difficulty with the change. The next day I would be completely adjusted and would not even recognize that a change had taken place.

I lived in the Arctic for five years and loved the 24 hour daylight. The parties were longer and sometimes I had to stop and get some serious sleep.

Recently , though,  I have found the time change more of a challenge to adapt to. It's harder to get up at the right time. Meal times seem noticeably off.

Then I thought about why do we even have day light saving time?  Yes, I know , we're supposed to get more daylight! What a laugh! The day light doesn't increase. Yes, I know it's supposed to  give us a longer evening so that we can have more evening outdoor time.

More and more people have been complaining about day light savings time recently. I'm sure that many areas would have changed from daylight savings time except that it's not that simple. If there is a change it would be much better if everyone changed. That's the challenge. How will we get everybody to change at the same time. After that we say do we stay on standard time all year or daylight savings time all year?

I think we'll probably keep on with the time changes for a while until we get all of our ducks in a row to make a change happen.

What would you like to see happen to our time changes?

  1. I have never liked the time changes twice a year and can't wait until the governments put a stop to it. It messes with my sleep patterns. I've always been sensitive to any changes to sleep.

    1. It's a nuisance to change but after a week does it matter?

  2. I would love it if Daylight Saving Time was ended for everyone! I understand when it was first started it was for the purpose of saving energy by not having lights on as much. However, that was back in the early 1900s and a lot has changed since then. You are right when you say they would need to change everyone at the same time.

    1. The next debate would be do we keep daylight savings of standard time?

  3. I've noticed myself that it's not as easy to adjust as it used to be. I wish we'd stop messing with the clock, honestly.

    1. During the week of time change we find it a challenge but after a week don't even know there's been a change.

  4. Hello,
I always like the longer daylight, I wish everyone would change to daylight savings time and just stay at that time. Since I retired losing or gaining an hour does not really bother me. Take care, enjoy your day!

    1. If you like longer daylight, I have a deal for you. Spend your summers in the Arctic.

  5. It is what it is, and it is something to discuss on a biannual basis. :)

Sue is asleep now at 7:40 when she is usually up and about.

    1. Yes, it is a coffee shop discussion. I won't live long enough to see a change.

  6. We adjust quickly so far but it would be good if we all could agree on one or the other and eliminate the change. It would prevent some accidents which apparently increase when time springs ahead.

    1. Yes, I've heard about more accidents during time change.

  7. We already spend eight months of the year on DST, so why not just stay there? I think Standard Time is on its way out. :-)

    1. Location matters a lot as to whether you want standard time or daylight savings.

  8. I would like to stick with standard time. Daylight savings time seems crazy to me. The days are already getting longer, plenty of light and more on the way. Why do this? I did read this morning that there is a possibility here in the USA we may go to permanent daylight saving time. That's absurd. People are going to be very surprised when winter arrives.

    1. There are arguments on both sides of this issue.

  9. Since I am retired, I noticed that time changes do not bother me anymore. I can sleep later if I need to and eat when I want. I do not have to keep a specific schedule anymore so the time change does not matter to me. I just noticed that with this last time change!

  10. I’m not sure what it says about us but we’ve hardly noticed it this year.

  11. I am in the camp that believes permanent daylight savings time is best. Kids living in the north will end up in the dark going or coming which is the only reason they will move back. I actually dont think it's absurd and I think keeping it would help those in the northern climes who suffer from SAD in a huge way.

    1. Here, the kids will go to school and come home in the dark unless they shorten the school day.

    2. I really don't like the time changes because we live in Hawaii where we don't have Daylight Savings. I have to constantly remember when not to call my kids in the Midwest and East coast. I do like not having to change our clocks in spring and fall though.

  12. I don't mind the change that much. Sure, it throws us off for a few days, but it is also another way to mark the seasons. It announces that something is happening, change is coming.
If we have to stay with one, I would stay with standard time. There is a reason for standard time. Here anyway, the sun is straight over head at noon on standard time. The long dark mornings would be harder to take on year round Daylight Time.

  13. It doesn't affect me, so I have no preference.

  14. The biggest complaint I know against DST is sending children to school in the dark. Now that we have endured a year of Covid education, I bet some wise people can find a solution to that.

  15. There are several possibilities so then much debate and we don't do anything.

  16. Here kids go to school and come home in the dark.

  17. My complaint will make you laugh at my ridiculousness. I've got all these key wound clocks... I hate going 'round and changing the times on them all. There's always one that's going to do something stupid. Right now the banjo clock in the kitchen is bonging 7 when it is only 2.

  18. I no longer work so driving to work in the dark and driving home in the dark is not a problem. I do hate having to adjust to the new hours. It takes me over a week! Don't get me started on the clocks!

  19. The time changes never really bothered me. I guess I had rather have daylight savings time and stick with that.

  20. Up to this point I have never really thought about it much. I do remember visiting my sister in Norway years ago, when she and her family lived there for several years. That first night after the long journey from America, my sister and I talked all night, as I was thinking to myself I would go to bed when the sun went down, and it never did. I was so shocked when I looked at the clock and it was morning. But what a great night of talking we had :)

  21. In England we will be putting the clocks forward by an hour this coming weekend. I think the process is ridiculous and I can identify no benefits whatsoever. It is about time they scrapped the concept entirely.
