TIME AND TIME AGAIN

Your comments are what really makes blogging for me. On Wacky Idea the opinions expressed were very thought provoking. So thought provoking that I want to say more. You were very frank about what you think of time change.

It's not surprising that people don't like time change. People aren't sure if they want to stay on standard time or daylight savings time.

I used to think that I would like to stay on standard time. Your comments have made me take another look at the issue.

The following photos were taken just before 10:00 PM on June 21. I was out riding my bike. Many people were riding and walking. The second photo shows the sun about to set a few minutes before 10:00 PM. The third photo shows my back yard when I got home from my bike ride. You could still sit outside when it was light.

So when I think about this , do I want to lose the long summer evening? I also know that at this time sunrise would be about 5 :00 AM.

Now if we were on standard time it would be getting dark and we would not have such a long evening. The sun would rise at 4:00 AM. Much daylight would be wasted because I would still be in bed.

So you made me have another look at the situation.

And no one made fun of my wacky idea and some very respectfully thought about it.

TIME CHANGE

So daylight savings time is visiting us again. I haven't seen very many bloggers complaining about the time change this year so I will snivel about the change.

I've gone through close to eighty changes to daylight savings time. For most of that time the change has not bothered me. I have never had a difficulty with the change. The next day I would be completely adjusted and would not even recognize that a change had taken place.

I lived in the Arctic for five years and loved the 24 hour daylight. The parties were longer and sometimes I had to stop and get some serious sleep.

Recently , though,  I have found the time change more of a challenge to adapt to. It's harder to get up at the right time. Meal times seem noticeably off.

Then I thought about why do we even have day light saving time?  Yes, I know , we're supposed to get more daylight! What a laugh! The day light doesn't increase. Yes, I know it's supposed to  give us a longer evening so that we can have more evening outdoor time.

More and more people have been complaining about day light savings time recently. I'm sure that many areas would have changed from daylight savings time except that it's not that simple. If there is a change it would be much better if everyone changed. That's the challenge. How will we get everybody to change at the same time. After that we say do we stay on standard time all year or daylight savings time all year?

I think we'll probably keep on with the time changes for a while until we get all of our ducks in a row to make a change happen.

What would you like to see happen to our time changes?

TIME CHANGE

I have gone through daylight savings time changes as long as I can remember. And that's a long time. I'm not sure if I've experienced day light saving time all my life. However, I don't remember day light savings time in the Arctic. I don't remember day light savings time in Quebec.

I have always maintained that the time change doesn't bother me. But I guess if you think that we don't need to use daylight savings time then it is a bother.

Have you ever counted all the clocks you have in your house? I have 8 clocks and two watches. We don't set the watches. Now to set all those clocks is a pain. If we didn't have day light saving time I wouldn't have to change my time pieces. Now I have to do this twice a year.

If I stop and think about it there's not one advantage for me to  go on day light saving time.

It's interesting to read about the odd rebel who refuses to change the time. It would be much easier for them to change time rather than to keep track of things so that they meet their obligations.

Now I will admit that for the days or few days of change I feel some stress. Today just seemed off. I stayed in bed until my get up time but I didn't sleep. All day things seemed off. I just felt that there were things I should be doing like eat lunch but it wasn't time to eat lunch. It seemed like there was a phantom day out there.

So the change in times does bother me.

I don't see the need to change and I think we are questioning more an more why we should use day light saving time.

I could gladly fore go daylight saving time or should I say I would like to stay on daylight saving time all year.

How do you feel about the time change?

W HAT'S THE FUSS WITH CHANGING TIME?

With my title I've probably made at least 50% of my readers angry.

Changing time twice in a year always brings about discussion on both sides of the issue. Some of it heated. Most of the negative comments come in the spring when we spring forward and lose and hour of our sleep. We don't hear so much complaining in the fall when we get an extra hour to sleep in.

The comments I've heard this spring have more substance than just complaining. People are asking why do we change. People have been following blindly without thinking about the reason for time changes...if there is one. Why do we change time? Who started the time change ? When did it start? Here people blame the farmers for the change. Farmers are the biggest complainers about time change.

So now people are saying, "Do we really need to change time?"  The next question is but which time should we stay on? The hour ahead or the standard time. This is really when the choices are divided. There are good reasons for staying on standard time for the whole year and good reasons for staying on daylight saving time. The the term daylight saving time is a stretch. We are not saving time. There's still 24 hours in the day.

Ask shift workers about the change twice a year.

One place I know. Saskatchewan, Stays on standard time all year and has done so  for many years.

I would like to see us go in the middle of standard time and daylight saving time.

    Anybody with me?

Hundredth Anniversary of Daylight Saving Time

This year marks the hundredth anniversary of daylight saving time being first implemented in a country. Germany and Austria put daylight saving time into effect on April 30, 1919. The modern version of daylight saving time had been developed in 1895.

Now many parts of the world have tried daylight saving time. People have discussed the topic forever. There are pros and cons. Farmers are going to make their own decision as to when to get up and start their work. Other people will get up an hour earlier so that they have a longer evening for their activities.

I don't care one way or the other if we have daylight saving time. Here on daylight saving time, on the longest day, the sun sets just before 10:00PM . It doesn't get dark until 11:00 PM and then we still see a glow in the western sky.

Many people complain about the change and find it hard to adjust for the first few days. Usually the change doesn't bother me.

Today's change tricked me and I was confused. I usually get up at 7:00 AM. I don't use an alarm clock. Today I was awake at 6:11 and then dozed off again. When I woke up again I thought it was 7:00 Am and got up . When I'd finished my breakfast I wondered why it was 8:40. My breakfast takes about 20-25 minutes. What's going on? Did we make a mistake in setting the clock. Then it hit me. I didn't get up at 7:00AM. I'd slept longer than I thought and woke at 8:00 AM instead of 7:00 AM.

So tonight after dinner, I was able to go for a 3473 step,
31 minute walk in bright sunshine!
