Yesterday was my birthday. Birthdays are special. We get older! But we also celebrate and there are traditions for marking the passing of another year.
Well, yesterday I just happened to be making soup. Since I haven't figured out how to store carrots, I try to use them up by making carrot soup. So the first day of making carrot soup happened to be my birthday. I'm okay with carrot soup for my birthday.
Later on I had my candle with a Tim Horton's donut.
So some people like cake and ice cream and some people just like soup. I wonder what I'll have next year.
Happy happy birthday to you! Looks like a lovely way to celebrate the day... with a delicious bowl of homemade carrot soup, a yummy donut, and a wonderful delightful smile!
ReplyDeleteThankyou. Everyday is a good day.
DeleteHappy HAPPY birthday 🎉🎂 to you, Red! Carrot soup sounds like a healthy way to live even longer. Yay! The donut is a perfect serving size. I’d go with that too.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I should have told you that it was curried carrot soup!
DeleteWell... curried carrot soup sounds even tastier and may I say you are looking very handsome there. :-)
DeleteHappy Birthday to you Red! As long as you are happy with soup for your birthday that is all that counts! You are looking good!
ReplyDeleteThanks. You have a good way of looking at things.
DeleteHappy Birthday Red! You look great and very happy! I hope your day was a good one. Making soup is always a good thing to do because you get rewarded with the delicious homemade soup!
ReplyDeleteThanks. I make carrot soup in the fall to use up the carrots. I freeze a lot of it.
DeleteHappy, happy Birthday, Red!
ReplyDeleteSoup and a donut could only be improved by adding garlic bread :)
Thanks. There is a soup recipe with garlic.
DeleteA happy birthday for you and enjoy your soup!
ReplyDeleteThankyou. It was a good day.
DeleteHappy belated Birthday to you Red! The soup sounds yummy.
ReplyDeleteTake care, enjoy your weekend!
Thanks. Making soup is a lot of work but it's worth it.
DeleteVery many happy returns. You are, if I may say so, looking splendid.
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely in the soup category.
Thanks! I'll take every complement I can get.
DeleteHappy birthday from me to you, Red. I always enjoy seeing your picture and this is no exception. Love that grin. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks. I have very few photos of myself.
DeleteIt seems like a rather mild celebration but congratulations.
ReplyDelete" mild" Nice term to use.
DeleteSo you share a birthday with one of my grandson's (10/21)! Stephen turned 6 years old this week and we will celebrate his birthday with a family party today. Pizza and cake! and lots of fun!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to you, Red! and best wishes for many more!
Thank you. Both my kids have Oct birthdays.

Good to hear from you as we shared a birthday tradition for quite a few years. I certainly like angel food too.

Happy birthday, Red. Soup and a donut sounds good to me too for a birthday celebration. You can freeze carrots by cutting them up and blanching them.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I've tried blanching carrots but didn't care for them.
DeleteHappy belated birthday!
ReplyDeleteThank you. Good to see you making a visit.
DeleteI looked back to your post on October 21, 2019, and you said it was your 80th and you were giving up riding your bike. So this one is 82 and I'm wondering what you're giving up this year? :-) Happy Birthday Red.
ReplyDeleteThanks. Not giving up anything else! Those things had some risk for an 80 year old.
DeleteHappy birthday!
ReplyDeleteThanks.
DeleteHappy Birthday! Nice to actually see you.
ReplyDeleteBelated Happy Birthday.
ReplyDeleteCelebrations can be big of small. They can even involve soup, just to long as you celebrate. As we get older we need to celebrate more, even in small ways.
Thanks. I don't have many photos of myself.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday belatedly to you! May you have many more of them and all of them happy and healthy ones.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday! Good work making soup!
ReplyDeleteLate, but wishing you a very happy birthday!! Carrot soup and a donut with a candle is different but fun and really special. I've never tasted carrot soup. Bet it puts a glow in your cheeks.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday! Carrot soup sounds pretty healthy, so I'm glad to see you made up for it with a donut! LOL!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday, can't go wrong with a Tim Horton donut!
ReplyDeleteHappiest of Birthdays. YOur smile says it all.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday! You look quite pleased with your soup, which (to my thinking) makes it a wonderful birthday meal.
ReplyDeleteI chop my carrots into 'coins', and then put them into freezer bags in sizes for Tim and I. I used to blanche them. Now I don't even bother with that. I pull them out a bag at a time and add them to toss them into soups, or skillet meals, or glaze them for Tim.
Carrot soup is tasty and yours looks very good. And a donut to balance it out :) Belated Happy Birthday, Red!
ReplyDeleteA belated Happy Birthday Red. You look well and happy and that's all anyone can ask for. Your soup looks and sounds delicious too.
ReplyDeleteHappy belated birthday! I don't want much on my birthdays, mostly just being with my family. But if I had to settle for a bowl of carrot soup, I might rate the birthday a bit lower compared to one where I got, say a nice grilled piece of meat instead.
ReplyDeleteHappy belated Birthday Red! Soup is good, I personally don't think it matters what we have on our birthdays, just as long as we enjoy it. My husband's traditional birthday treat is tapioca pudding. He's had it since he was a kid and I carried it on after we got married, still making it for him on his birthday.
ReplyDeleteOh dear - I am a week late to your birthday party Red. I hope I am not too late to supply my belated birthday greetings. Funnily enough my daughter was talking about Tim Horton's doughnut establishments just yesterday. Sounds like the do-nut may replace the maple leaf on the Canadian flag.
ReplyDeleteI’m catching up with blogs after being away for a month and I see it was your birthday. I missed wishing you a Happy Birthday so instead I will wish you a Happy Year. (Never had carrot soup before!)
ReplyDeleteBelated Happy 🎂 Birthday wishes to you Red and there's nothing "wrong" with your choice of foods. i can't even recall what foods we enjoyed on our birthdays this year, but know there wasn't any cake or ice cream (sigh).
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday dear Red !
ReplyDeleteyour soup is looking delicious indeed!
