RIVER

"If I were  rich man's son,

I'd sit by the river and watch it run "

I had a spare half hour so I decided to go and look at the river.

The Red Deer River is quite high and very turbulent. We've had much rain lately. There's lots of snow in the Rocky Mountains. Usually by this time the snow in the mountains has melted. There s also a dam that they are letting extra water run.

I tried to get a good view of the river but I was not in a good place.

A major ski resort, Sunshine,  near Banff was open today for Canada Day.

The photo on my header shows the river as it normally is.

  1. That is high water. I was just reading that your ski resort has not been open on Canada day since 1991. 31 years! Climate change is starting to feel very, very real, isn't it?

  2. I love the little ducklings. We could use rain in Hawaii.

  4. I hope those ducklings are sensible enough to stay in the slack water areas; it looks a powerful current in that river.

  15. I didn’t realize the Red Deer River was so big. I looked up the River on Google Maps and see that it flows right through Red Deer. I wondered if this spot where you took the photos is near your home? Neat photos … thanks for sharing.

  18. Nice photos. Your Red Deer river is definitely running high. Right now I'm on the Wisconsin river. It's running low.

  19. I don't know much about rivers but I can see it's muddy. I didn't know ducklings cope well with rough water. Tough little birds

  20. It's nice to sit by a river and watch it flow as it has always done and will do long after we have gone.
