Sometimes we live through some very surprising weather changes...particularly temperature changes.
On Sunday afternoon , Sept. 4 we had a temperature of 30 C (88 F) which we think is very hot. So hot that I didn't go outside in the afternoon. Well I did go out to water my tomatoes. We've had a long , unpleasant hot spell.
Well, the night of Sept. 5 we had frost. That's right it froze Mon. night. It did not freeze at ground level but there was frost on the roofs of the houses. At ground level there is enough heat in the ground to keep the air just above the ground from freezing.
So from shorts and a T shirt to long pants and a jacket in 24 hours is quite a change.
That is astounding! On a related note, is September 5th early for a frost?
ReplyDeleteSept 5 is not an early frost but it rarely happens. In other words there have been earlier frosts.
DeleteWow! That's a massive shift in weather overnight.
ReplyDeleteWe can have those drastic temperature changes in the winter when we have chinooks.
DeleteIt has been very warm here but this morning it is decidedly chilly.
ReplyDeleteOur nights are usually quite cool plus 15 C or lower.
DeleteThe weather patterns are very extreme, I would like a more gradual change in the temperatures. Take care, enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteYes, I would like to see more gradual change.
DeleteWow! That IS a huge change. I'm not sure I've ever experienced a 56-degree temperature shift.
ReplyDeleteSometimes we get it in the winter with chinook.
DeleteYikes! That is indeed quite a change. I'm glad you are not sweltering in this latest heat wave, though. We aren't, either. :-)
ReplyDeleteI've had enough heat for now. I think the heat is over here.
DeleteWe're now having consistently cooler days and nights. Not yet frost though.
ReplyDeleteOh no! FROST!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat was an early frost with no damage but a killing frost is coming.
DeleteWow that was quite a swing in temperatures there.
ReplyDeleteYes, it's too much of an extreme.
DeleteIt is indeed. Our temperatures are dropping gradually, so far at least!
ReplyDeleteYou are moderated by the sea.
DeleteOur weather here in PA changed, too, but not nearly as dramatically. Hope you have plenty of clothes!
ReplyDeleteI have plenty of clothes but your body still has to become adjusted.
DeleteI think that weather is drifting down here in a day or so:) It is Fall after all:)
ReplyDeleteWe really need some rain as it's very dry.
DeleteThis post is interesting to me because it is a perfect example of what scientists said would be the way Climate Change would unfold going forward. The hot weather would get hotter. The cold weather would get colder. More floods. Serious storms would be more serious. So, here in your case in Red Deer, you’ve had an unusually hot spell followed by a quick cold snap. The sad thing about this is, at least here in the USA, one of our major political parties (aka Republicans) are still in denial that there is even such a thing as Climate Change. Well, they have to say that. Otherwise, they would be going against all the Conservatives who support them. You see, the most important thing to Conservatives is Profit. Our economy is based on Capitalism and, accordingly, Profits are primary, yes, even more important than humanity. Thanks for the post, Red.
ReplyDeleteUnbelievable! Temperatures have really been wacky lately.
ReplyDeleteI think temperatures will continue to be wacky.
DeleteThat is a very big change indeed, from too hot to too cold.
ReplyDeleteIt was a big change but not difficult to put up with.
DeleteOh no! And what will the tomatoes wear to keep them warm?
ReplyDeleteThis frost did not hit the ground but a more severe frost will show up in time. Very soon I will be picking all tomatoes.
ReplyDeleteThose abrupt plunges in temperature are a shock to the system. Our weather has cooled quite quickly this year but no frost yet. Your summer season is shorter than ours, I believe.
