Winter hit us today with a wallop. We are in the midst of a blizzard with white out conditions. We've had abut 10 cm of snow and lots of wind.
So guess what the old boy had to try to do day all day. That's right! I shoveled snow. It was miserable because we've had warm weather until last night. So the snow came down on ground that was above freezing and melted just enough to make things miserable. So the snow stuck to my shovel. Think about it this way. 10 lbs. of snow stuck to my shovel while I shoveled one lb. of snow. I had to shovel things twice today.
So I'm a chicken. I took all these photos through my window.
I hope you are doing the shoveling just a little at a time. I remember how heavy wet snow was. We were always warned of the danger of doing too much shoveling at once without resting. Please take care of yourself.
ReplyDeleteIt looks beautiful! I'm so happy we can take our time shoveling, not having to get out to work.
ReplyDeleteIt is clean and fresh with the new snow.
DeleteIt snowed here — lightly — on this day last year, but we are having balmy weather — for November — this year. I was tidying the garden yesterday and putting it out for the trucks to take away to the compost yard.
ReplyDeleteNo gardening here anymore.
DeleteWow! That is definitely looking a lot like winter. Yikes, Red! :-)
ReplyDeleteWinter came with a bang. I had to find a few things that I hadn't got out for winter.
DeleteIt is pretty to look at but shoveling is no fun especially when the snow is wet and heavy. Why don't you have a snow blower, Red? Might be easier on your back!
ReplyDeleteI've never had a snow blower. I do enjoy shoveling excpt when it's heavy wet snow. At this age, I'm not buying a snow blower.
DeletePhotos through the window on a snowy cold down is perfect!
ReplyDeleteI bought a nice aluminum shovel to replace my worn out plastic one and quickly learned that snow has a tendency to stick to it. It now has a place hung on my wall gathering dust while I continue to use the worn out plastic one. Maybe I'll get a new shovel this year but it will definitely be plastic.
ReplyDeleteSnow sticks to my plastic shovel. However , we only get about two snows a year that are wet.
DeleteI saw the report of snow in the west. Be careful out there, Red! That heavy snow is hard on the ticker!
ReplyDeleteI have a wonderful ticker but I'm a little short on hemoglobin.
DeleteThat is my favourite kind of weather.
ReplyDeleteI don't mind winter. If I went south I'd really miss it.
DeleteAfter all that work, I don't blame you for shooting through the window! Who wants to go out in that again?!
ReplyDeleteWell if you're used to winter weather it's okay outside. Shooting from inside limits you options.
Delete(00) Yikes.
ReplyDeleteIt comes with the territory.
DeleteOur snow is always wet, sticky and heavy. We don't do much shoveling. But then we don't have much snow either, and when we do it usually melts fast. That's a lot of early snow for you.
ReplyDeleteYou have your snow shoveling covered with the weather.
DeleteYep, it sure looks like winter! Take it east with that shovel.
ReplyDeleteI don't try to do all the shoveling at one time.
DeleteWet heavy snow is not fun and I remember shoveling it as a kid. Photos inside and through the window is perfect for this kind of weather.
ReplyDeleteGetting out gives you some different opportunities.
DeleteOh no I hope you are keeping that snow in Canada! It turned cold here today:( No snow yet!
ReplyDeleteOur snow usually scoots down your way.
DeleteYou have my sympathy!
ReplyDeleteNo sympathy needed.
DeleteI'd b chicken too, gosh, such a lot of snow already!
ReplyDeleteThanks for keeping us posted. I almost feel like I know as much about the weather in Red Deer as I do about Seattle. Stay warm!
ReplyDeleteLast year I started spraying furniture polish on our snow shovels and the snow slipped right off of them! MAGIC! Not sure where I read this little tip but DANG, it made a difference!!!
ReplyDeleteThat's a lot of snow! Our weather here has been like spring. Very warm.
