Today is that magic day of the longest night of the year.
Here the sun rose at 8:42 AM and set at 4:24 PM so we had 7 hours and 42 minutes of daylight. So today is the day when days are to get longer. Yesterday the sun set at 4:23 PM Yesterday the sun rose a 8:41 AM so things have an adjustment to make before we start gaining back time for a longer day.
Since it's winter in the northern hemisphere I am experiencing winter. Today our high was minus 28 C. Tonight our low will be minus 38. So yes,we are experiencing winter as it normally occurs here.
This is what it looked like at approximately 4:05 Pm this afternoon. The sun would officially set about 15 minutes later.
Skies are beautiful and ever changing.
ReplyDeleteWill you be affected by storm Elliott?
No. The cold is just stuck here. Since my wife is an Elliott, that's an appropriate question!!!

DeleteJust wondering..those people had the weather forecast and all the warnings..so WHY go out in it, however they travelled?
I doubt we'll notice much difference today (22nd) - the amount of extra daylight we get compared with the 21st is less than one second! How do they calculate these things?
ReplyDeleteChanges are very slow and gradual so we can't et in a hurry for spring.
DeleteNice slowly dipping sunset! Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteMinus 38! Wow! I have never experienced cold like that. I expect you have to keep the skin on your face covered up to prevent frost damage. It's never as cold as that in Barnsley!
ReplyDeleteHere, we rarely experience those temperatures but I certainly experienced them in other places.
DeleteOh no, minus temperatures. It's way to cold. Merry Christmas to you and yours! Have a happy day!
ReplyDeleteWe get a bit more light than you, but not by much.
ReplyDeleteDue for a significant winter storm here starting tonight.
You've had a long streak of nasty weather.
DeleteIt has been so cold out your way. I think it is headed here, after some ice rain. sigh.
ReplyDeleteYou've had a good dump of wet snow.
DeleteHappy Winter Solstice! (NewRobin13)
ReplyDeleteThanks. I hope you're doing well in cleaning up the earthquake damage. It picked a nasty time to occur just at Christmas.
DeleteYou have about 30 minutes more daylight than we do.
ReplyDeleteWow! I didn't know Ireland was further north than us.
DeleteThat's a nice shot. I'm glad we'll begin having longer periods of daylight going forward.
ReplyDeleteDon't rush things. It takes a while to lengthen daylight.
DeleteYes, longer days start now!
ReplyDeleteLonger days start now , but not much longer.
ReplyDeleteWe are similar in daylight, but not the severe cold you experience!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter told me it was -5 degrees F in Chicago today and that was without the wind chill. I know that's not a big deal in Canada, but brrr... all my Chicago teacher buddies were telling me they weren't going to spend even a minute outdoors today.
ReplyDeleteI'm liking it staying dark a little longer because I end up sleeping more.
i like keeping in mind the solstice day too
ReplyDeletei liked this sunset shot ,goes well with topic
minus 38 oh my ,our temperature goes hardly 12 c at night here
